From Alcock...
Fremantle Football Club President Dale Alcock said the Board had a duty to act in the best interests of its members and supporters, and to be bold in making its strategic decisions.

“As a result, the Fremantle Football Club board has decided that the Club requires a new coach and new CEO for the 2020 season and beyond,” Mr Alcock said.

“Leadership change is necessary to begin the process of renewal and to set our course for the next 10 years.

"Fremantle had not made the finals for the past four years. This isn’t acceptable to the Board, the players, and most importantly to our supporters. We need high performance and consistency at all levels of the club, so we need to change and evolve.”
I don't think it is unreasonable to be outside the 8 (of 18 teams) for 4 years after making a GF. If we were anchored on 4 wins then maybe but we weren't far away from finals this year, a bit of luck and we could have made it. So I don't think it is a fair measure on the coaches ability.
I am OK he is gone though and Alcock was more on the money when he said the club needed a refresh and new start and in imo better game style.

Rosich; not sure why the hatred on here. It was not a bad decision to extend Ross at the time and the CEO only has limited influence on the playing fortunes. Managerially/commercially I think we were doing OK. The drop in members imo was also alot about the fans taking a peek at the new stadium and the loss of so many freagle (and other clubs) fans we used to have as members. They no longer need to be a member to see several games of footy a year.
I know him through friends so may be biased though. He is also by far and away been our best CEO in history, not sure why he needed to be shoved out.

Pardon the intrusion, I know nothing about what's happening behind the scenes, etc, but on field, you guys were crippled by injuries to key position players, were looking good before they all went down.

They may already have one but have to go through the ''process''

We could be a real threat next year with an attacking game plan.. we have some weapons
Really!! Our fleet of smalls that most great clubs have is putrid. Swit/Crowden/Schultz absolutely useless, Matera hit and miss but at least he can sniff a goal. Add in Walters though is a big yes.
Also our key forwards can't kick.... Tab, Cox, Hogan, McCarthy (50/50) all f'd kicks imo

List probably needs a cut and rebuild too

I would honestly back the current list to become revitalized if there's a big change in coaching and the playing system. We need to break away from this list recycling trend we've been in right now. Get some new eyes on the players and back the improvement to come from our actual coaching and teachings.

Oh happy day. All due respect to Lyon's achievements but all the fun had gone out of it for me as a fan.

As I started writing on Sunday night (before I realised I couldn't even be bothered doing that & I'm sick of arguing about it and being told to suck it up because Ross is our coach and if you're not behind him you're not a fan and blah blah blah & deleted my post) - I just want a coach who doesn't say things like - emotion doesn't get it done, action gets it done. Who actually still has some romance in their soul and some creativity in their coaching.

My money is on J-Lo. Make it so Mr Bell.

That's about where I sit. I'm excited for the future now. Lyon's contract for next year is obviously the reason why Rosich is also gone, because as promising as this is, it's also not ideal at this stage of a rebuild. I saw the writing on the wall as early as 2016, and I pray that our new coach brings back some attacking flair and improves our deplorable skills.

Who is BK?

Probably should have been gone after we failed to improve between 2017 and 2018. Feel this was a long time coming.

I'd agree if we didn't make so many list changes. At the very least during those times pressure should have been constantly applied more for him to loosen up on the field.

Are people just saying Longmuir because he used to play for Freo????

Yes

Why?

...

He was highly rated as an assistant at West Coast before he went to Collingwood and transformed their backline. I've heard Pies players doing interviews in Melbourne bring up Longmuir out of the blue and give him a wrap when asked about how good Buckley is as a coach (lol). He clearly makes good relationships and knows how to get through to the players. He's pretty well regarded in the industry now. So not just the Freo ties.

If Ross was fired because we didn't make finals then we're not embarking on a second rebuild in 5 years. The people that made this decision, rightly or wrongly, believe we're capable of winning now
So when he signed his extension to have us playing finals by the end of 2020 and starting a rebuild they lied to us?

And now we have a 10 year target going forward so I don’t think we are seeing finals next year either

Does anyone else hope that Ross retires and does open Mike where you find out he was actually taking the piss for the last 15 years and is actually easy going? I do.
Ironically, if he were to coach GWS, he could very well get them to a GF. And then...who knows?

He was the forwards coach at West Coast before the Pies I think so he's coaching across the ground with success.

Reckon ross will have year off but then I think he should apply for the gws job(Cameron is a fraud and will be sacked end next year).

As for us who knows I don’t care who as often the best candidates are often not the best coaches.
In fact the majority of best coaches today (apart from maybe Simpson) were seen as “outsiders” for a the head coaching role

I just pray to god we do our due dilligence

Cool. I've never heard him being in contention for any other senior coaching role.

Speaking about assistant coaches... Ive never heard any praise for Rock, Guerra, Hale and others. The players used to love Kirk. Says a bit imo.
