Is it so hard to celebrate a win? Why you need to stop everybody from enjoying a win just because you are not happy with what the club do . I get all of us get upset or melt with the club by opposition trashing , but a hard fought win
Cheer up.
Mate you must remember this is just big footy. It has a few 100 posters out 35000 odd members.
Respect the the people who post common sense and laugh at the rest.

Walls was my first thought too,not that it matters.

Nah 'twas Paul Roos.

Never in doubt from the message Lyon was trying to get across to those fukheads.

Roos confirmed he took Lyon’s call.

“There is only 18 senior coaches, so what I found at times when I was coaching (is) it’s good every now and then for someone to call you,” he told Triple M.

“There’s a lot of media coverage and a lot of stuff going on, but at the end of the day that’s why I’m so strong on what happens around the football.

“You can cover a lot of flaws in your game — we saw Collingwood have 115 tackles — they only won the game by a point, but it does cover up a lot of flaws.”

Roos said he simply gave Lyon “a friendly ear” to chat to.

“He knows how to coach, I don’t pretend to take any credit for what they did — they were outstanding.”

Was watching AFL 360 last night and for once I agreed with Robbo. Whateley was saying how our skills had improved after rounds 1 n 2 n Robbo said your skills always look better if you get your hands on the pill first. I totally agree. If you have confidence that you will win the ball in congestion then players up the ground can time their runs towards the ball carrier with confidence. Robbo then went a little off course as he does by saying Footy is more emotion that tactics...n he lost me again. But I really think things like 'we look slow' ' we cant hit a target' n alot of that stuff gets fixed if you play with intent. Which is why I believe Ross goes on about effort.

Agree - that was the point Ross made in his presser a couple of weeks ago, you can't teach skills. With a lot of emphasis in training you can maybe improve them incrementally but the thing you can fix quickly is intent, effort, endeavour and enthusiasm. That is the hallmark of Lyon coached teams and it has been lacking for the first two weeks. The challenge now is to bring it consistently...

Yep agree. The funny thing is in the first two weeks we actually got our hands on the ball but just burned it, all this while our 'intent' and 'effort' was sub-par.

I thought Robbo was talking about mental vs mechanics. I.E You won't deliver if your head isn't in the game, even you are blessed with the best fitness and skills.

Look at Melbourne before Roos, Carlton, Brisbane, etc. Losing games killed their mental side, and so all the draft picks in the world couldn't help them. It's why culture is so strong in clubs these days.

Robbo is like a punter at a pub pool table.

Three pints in, you're bloody awesome and can't do a thing wrong.

It's that one ad break and that fourth pint.

I believe the photos from Instagram above are enough proof.

Was going to say Instagram and every single time Dal is on the Footy show he gives Spurry some tongue-in-cheek banter telling him to improve, Dal was on the footy show a lot the past few years too and mentioned him every time.

I think that was largely true though. We dropped 2 large, lumbering key position players for 2 mids between rounds 2 and 3, so not really surprising we looked quicker.

That doesn't really explain it for me. It was across the entire field that we looked quicker, not just the areas we swapped a tall for a small (or slow for fast).

For me it was more about taking the game on and being prepared to break the lines, which meant that we were able to get guys out into space. Previously we had been reactive and largely chasing the opposition which always makes you look slow.

What caused the change? Maybe it was a little bit of swapping out Dawson, Griffin and Suban - but Darcy Tucker, Danyle Pearce and Sutcliffe are all quite pacy. I think part of it was the enthusiasm that the younger guys would have added - we have looked really jaded the last two games and on Saturday they genuinely looked to be enjoying themselves. I also think the first goal coming so quickly would have really got the adrenaline flowing and you could just see they were jumping out of their skins. Imagine if it had been Mayney kicking for that first one! But for me some of the positional changes and structural changes were really crucial. Having Crozier, Weller and Grey in the forward line really gave us some much needed zip and tackling pressure in there, and I also like Mundy in the forward line for short spells. We had all our best mids playing in the midfield for a change, and they seem to be running into some form at last. And the defence just looked a lot more balanced and seemed more prepared to play on quickly and go forward - perhaps because we had better structure forward of the ball.

I'm not sure why we suddenly "clicked" but it was freaking awesome to see and I hope we can replicate it this weekend. If we can, with the depth we have at Peel and on the injury list I think we are starting to see the first signs of slow climb out of the abyss. Fingers crossed.

It's a team game. I think we looked zippier because the midfield finally had some chemistry, instead of running rough.

They were able to help each other, the defenders and forwards a lot better as a result, with a better spread which allowed us to transition from defence to the forward line, not burning the ball like they did and limiting the mindboggling numbers of turnovers which put the defenders under awful pressure. Sure, the 6 additions for the week to the squad came in full of beans, but they capitalised on the work of the experienced onball midfielders. Not slagging them for it, everyone should be benefiting and able to create opportunity out of one of the best midfields (on paper).

It's a worry if they can't or don't - but not as worrying as the instances of rounds 1 and 2 where a midfield consisting of the tallest, most experienced ruck in the competition (Sandi), brownlow medalist (Fyfe), competition record setter for disposals in a season (Neale) assisted by line breakers of the caliber of the hill brothers, AA recipient (Mundy) etc fails. I agree with the changes made for round 3, but I found it ironic where the axe fell, given the burden of responsibility by the midfielders for those 2 lost games.

Dropping Dawson increases run and overlap from defence because he's simply unable to do that. Gives us more options as an outlet from defence.

I also think opposition forwards play very loose on Dawson hoping that we kick to him. Allowing them to cover our attacking defenders more.

Maybe just maybe, the players had enough and over ruled the Boss.
They played like they were enjoying themselves not like they were following stringent archaic rules.

Ross was acting like he was eating humble pie in the presser.
The week before Billy was questioning him after a quarter break.
I am really interested into how we go this week. Was last week an anomaly or not.

Something I saw with Brad, that I never expected is that he directs people on field as to where to run. He's vocal. When you see him live he covers a ridiculous amount of ground (so does grey) and it's the options that he creates that opens up play. I admit I didn't expect much of him, but seeing him in action - him and Shilly are special (and seeing them look for each other makes me smile)

100 percent what I have been thinking. Brad Hill gives so much more than I thought he would. Might just be the best new recruit to Freo in a long long time.

I love how he keeps the ball moving with subtle taps and knocks. He tried to tap the ball over the head, through the legs and around the bulldog players all game. He gave all the guys on the outside of the contest a chance at the ball and more often than not we won the ball.

This is so true. There's a lot more room for him to be a leader at Freo. He's playing a pivotal role, as evidenced by his need to confer with the coach during games, which is great for his growth and brilliant for the team.

Yeah agreed. I noticed that we're happy to roll the ball along the ground or poke it forward to keep it moving and away from a stoppage, and our guys are positioned to get the ball out of there.

The bullies version of doing that is their handball (*coughthrowcough*) over the head out of congestion
