It’s funny, they’ve kinda rebuilt in the opposite way. Most teams hit the draft super hard first and have a team full of kids. Then attract the free agents and out of contract players.

Freo have attracted the out of contract guys first, Lobb Hogan BHill (at the start) Conca Wilson Matera etc.

We’ve got a start on the draft with Brayshaw and Cerra, now it’s time to really hit it.

Not overly fussed if we trade BHill and Langdon and hit the draft hard with another 2 top 10s plus Henry

Getting Kelly would be ok too, but I’d still want Freo to have 1 top 10 plus the Henry bid.

great post, i agree 100%.

People are getting totally sucked in to Channel Weagle, they are getting sucked in by 6PR.

We are on track, the rebuild is going really well. We've unearthed some great talent (Brayshaw) and we've recruited Lobb who is going to be a total star. We have Hogan who played on one leg all year and still looked good when he was fit. Its funny how the moment Hogan got injured we have dropped off a cliff.

People just want to sack the coach who is basically on the cusp of paying off. It would be like selling shares just before they are about to peak.

We should resign Ross for 3 more years, clean out the S&C and beef up the AC ranks and we're in business.

We also have ZERO alternatives for Ross. We would be picking a rookie coach. A rookie playing list + rookie coach just doesn't work. Ross is a finished product. What you see is what you get. He just needs the cattle.
Cannot agree with this.
Club has not moved forward on inch in last 4 years. The list has been completely revamped during this time but no substantial changes to coaching philosophy or game plan.
The word is that Lyon is very difficult to work with and attracting good assistants is a problem
He appears to have allowed the game to go past him. There are a few coaches in waiting who would have fresh ideas - Longmuir, Caracalla etc.

Apologies to all the Ross haters. The club has now lost me. I don't blame Ross because the ineptitude of the recruiting staff has stuffed the club. Naughton, McGovern , Kelly, IHill, etc,etc **cking etc . All Wa talent under our noses that were ignored.

It's this post that keeps me up, peel and training watchers continue to highly regard certain draft prospects, who are subsequently ignored by the club and go on to make an immediate impact at other clubs.

Yet we persevere with drafts and trades that can't get on the park, have dysfunctional personal lives and appear to constantly hover in and out of form. Adam 'get me back to Lygon street' Cerra seems to represent all of this.

Why are people comparing West Coast losing Mcgovern, JK and Kennedy to us losing Pearce, Taberner and Hogan.

Those three at West Coast are in the top 5 in the competition for their position. Pearce could have gone close to AA this year, but Taberner and Hogan (at this stage with his injuries) are not in the top 20 forwards in the comp.

Regardless, West Coast would still be extremely competitive losing those 3 players and would beat most teams. Every player on the list knows what the gameplan is and are able to come in and play their role. We don't even have a gameplan that our best 22 know and can stick too

Taberner has played 26 games over the past three seasons yet he is apparently one of the main differences in us being a finals team and a bottom 2 team.

Ross is without a doubt the best coach in the history of the club and what he has done for the club since coming across I will before forever grateful. The final series in 2013 was to this day the most enjoyable time I have ever experienced as a sports fan.

Unfortunately I believe his time has come to and end at the club, that is no knock on what he has done in the past but I believe for all parties concerned a clean break is the best option. The pressure around the state (rightly or wrongly) has the potential to turn this into a completely toxic situation for the club and I have no doubt if Ross is at the helm next year their will be a significant drop in membership/corporate dollars. Ross has always reminded me of Mourinho, people can put up with his persona in the public spotlight when you are getting the results but when you attempt to play the same game and your team is struggling on the field you lose a lot of allies very quickly. The fact that a large number of his supporters in the media are now starting to turn speaks volumes I believe.....

While I think it's time for Ross to go Rosich HAS to go with him, his position is completely untenable. The next 2 months has the potential to put this club back 5-10 years, I have no trust in Rosich at the helm during this time.

Poor old Tabs unfortunately when he gets the ball his brain is still trying to catch up, IMO hasn’t got the footy smarts if Hogan is fit he doesn’t fit it my fwd line.

I fully agree, I watched the forward setup very closely when we played against Essendon earlier this year and the amount of times he brought his man into the space Hogan was using was infuriating. He just isn't a smart footballer.

Lol Ross is nothing like mourinho because jose mourinho is a winner Ross is a perennial bridesmaid

I'm talking about his treatment of the media, its all good when you are winning but as soon as the tide starts to turn the wolves come out to play.

Without looking at stats, I'd hazard a bet we shot better than 8.14 the rest of the year, so did we just not practice our skills well enough that week...

Freo kicked more points than goals in every finals game in 2013. Hawthorn kicked more points than goals in only one game of the finals (equal goals and points for the others). The clangers and disposal efficiency were pretty even for both sides. The difference was Clarkson knew to win the game he had to keep Fremantle kicking long into the forward line, or having set shots from outside 40m. This explains both the result of the game and Norm Smith.

A big problem with 2013 was the Lyon mantra was that we can win anywhere. The team may have trained on a MCG size ground, but that doesn't recreate the conditions. Grand final day was blustery which caused havoc with our kicking. Hawthorn players were more adept at handling the conditions. If the grand final was held on the Sunday (a mild and sunny winter day) I reckon Fremantle would have won. Lyon trained and structured, rolled the dice on the game plan and lost. And had faith in Zac Dawson who was proven to be an even bigger failure when it really counts in finals.

2. The club really isn't that flush. The owners, WAFC, take most of the after tax profit. The club actually gets very little after the WAFC has had its fill at the trough. We are on a different deal to the eagles. The rules for the eagles is the WAFC takes a certain percentage of the profit. With Freo, they take a certain percentage of the income. This means we will always be financially worse off than the eagles while the WAFC holds both licences.
Is that honestly the agreement?

If so I may possibly find a new level of hate for the WAFC that even I thought didn’t exist

Taberner plays the key lead forward due to his ability to win contested marks (pretty sure he was near or leading the AFL for contested marks in both 2018 and 2019 before he got injured). So he should be entitled to running toward any space he sees fit. Hogan needs to work harder to get the ball, which will come with a good pre season.

Plus, you don't need a football brain to be a feted player. Naitanui springs to mind.

Look, one of the greatest coaches ever produced Australia passed through our halls, he's a qualified doctor, represented his state as an athlete in two elite sports and his country in another. This gentleman also coached a number of sides to olympic glory, world championships and champions trophies, he''s fairly well versed in elite sport and his counsel is relied, on, I don't because I've been on club sanctioned leadership courses, and I am without doubt the smartest man in the state, potentially globally as well, I won't speculate on that though.

His observations are something to discuss, but not necessarily implement, but worthy of discussion. He has consulted to the club on a few occassions, on his last visit he suggested that we have one element of an invasion game fairly well trained, but the other element not so much, which is not ideal, and not something I necessarily agree with.

He believes their are two critical elements of invasion game sports - the first, gaining territory and setting up behind the ball. The second, is practicising making goals. This was his recommendation a few years ago, but look, I don't subscribe to a theory of creation, it's easier to destroy than create.

Ross can't do everything, the recruiting has been shit. why did we resign crowden for 3 years when he is a spud? Going back why did we take pot shots on guys like Apeness. Our drafting has been rubbish thats a fact.

Our trading has been good but thats a different team.

Crumpets is saying RTB is not happy with our recruitment.
Funny how Hackdorn also claims to have inside knowledge of the Board meeting held yesterday in Melbourne where it was "tense" and revealed RTB was not happy with our recruitment. Either he totally makes it up or he gets leaked information from someone at the club who should be stopped.

you might have noticed on the weekend Ross refused to put people behind the ball in the 1st quarter. The team is a growing and learning team.

You are judging Ross based on us having a list profile like the Eagles.

Bell is probably "backgrounding" him. I've noticed Hackdorn has been on the money alot more this season than previous seasons.

I get the feeling Bell is white anting Rosich.

Meh. I am not a fan of Dross, but he should be given a chance to coach out his contract. The club knew what they were getting when they signed him up, and extended the contract. Bring in some assistant coaches who are actually capable, and put Lyon on notice that he needs to support them.

To me, the problem starts with the board and CEO. First, clear out anyone who was associated with the Lyon appointment. Goodbye Stephen Oreilly and Steve Rosich. Get a chairman who has a background in leading a sporting organisation: goodbye Dale Alcock. Get rid of all the investment banker wannabees: goodbye Peter Mann and Craig Carter. Keep Sue Murphy, Collen Hawyard, Andrea Hall: we need a woman's touch to keey everyone grounded and they seem like quality people. Throw in a couple of ex-footballers (Paul Hasleby, Sean McManus) and ask Gerard Neesham to come on down.

Really don't think Bell would stoop as low as using Hackdorn to help him with getting rid of Rosich, he would have morals and ethics.
