Any ideas why Lyon persisted with Silvagni on The Powerful Bogan. I would have switched Dawson onto The Powerful Bogan and Silvagni onto Tippet at half time. I thought that was dumb. First time I've thought that we had the matchups wrong all year.

It didn't matter who you put on him, when his team mates were sending it to him lace out and none of our guys down back dropping into the hole this is what happens. Our guys were too buggered to spread and run back to defend.

and in contrast our kicks were atrocious all across the ground, high and loopy, giving our targets zero chances. it had to be fatigue as it progressively got worse. our kicking was fine last week.

Fair point. Their delivery inside 50 was exquisite, but Dawson is a couple of inches taller than SOS and has longer arms. I don't think SOS played particularly badly, he just didn't have the height or strength to match it with such a powerful bogan.

His press conference was really good, shut down the media when the kept trying to make excuses for us (travelling) by saying it was not relevant and that we had no excuses. Also noted that we need to earn the right not to travel so much in September.

Despite the short turnaround, Fremantle burst out of the blocks to lead by 29 points early in the second quarter before being overrun, but Lyon dismissed talk that travel may have played a part.

"It's irrelevant - it's all garbage to be frank," Lyon said.

"As senior coach of the Fremantle Football Club ... we're not into excuses. You earn the right for top-four, scheduling is irrelevant, we wouldn't have been talking about scheduling if we'd been a bit more organised [on the field] and a bit more polished.

"It's irrelevant.

"I can't be any clearer - it's a non-issue. You look tired when you're chasing."

I :hearts: Ross Lyon.

It's pretty obvious fatigue was a factor in the loss but he just flat out refuses to ever give the players an excuse for losing.

I also like it when he says (not last night but previously) "I will not write the headline for you" or something to that extent. They tried about three times last night for him to concede travel may have been a factor but he just outright refused to give it legs.

Write it up cause everybody knows it was a huge factor but Fremantle are not using it as an excuse. :thumbsu:

From Mcpharlap:
"A couple of years ago, I probably would have said I'd wrap things up about now. But it's just been an exciting year - personally and with the team - with a new coach and I'd like to stick around for a bit longer.
"Ross Lyon was a fantastic acquisition for us and I think he's instilled a culture of excellence at Fremantle that we've never seen before. The players want to play for him and he's got a game plan that stands up.
"From all those points of view, it's really exciting for some of the senior players to see that and I think the only way is up."

It's kinda hard not to have a crack at Harvey after reading that.

As a Freo player early in the year was quoted as saying "I thought Harvs was the best coach I ever had when I came to the club, then when Ross arrived it looked like Harvs didn´t know what he was doing". Pretty much says it all, good guy and coach, but Ross is at another level and for guys at Freo who have never experienced other coaches etc, it must be a bit of an eye opener having Ross here.

It should be worth noting that if Harvs was around still we would have no Pearce or Crowley (he said he was certain he was on the way out last year), Walters would still be fat, Mcpharlin would be retiring now, Griffin probably would of been traded (Lyon made it clear he was wanted from day 1 when there were a lot of rumours around he would go) and we would of had SNOS at FB all year instead of Dawson. Its also clear that Johnson, Mcphee and even Ibbo have prospered under Lyon´s defensive setups while Duffield had the riot act read to him and came back a different man putting his body on the line like never before.

The last third of this season was the best Freo has ever played - heck we led the competition in almost all categories that matter.

Really PB, is that what you got from that story? So Ross can't stand alone, he must always be compared to Harvey?

I suppose that's fair, considering that McPharlin's only coach at Fremantle was Harvey. What's that, you say? Not true. Hmmm, I thought for sure that was the point of your post.

Ok. It's kinda hard not to have a crack at Harvey, Cuddles, Ben Allen and Drum after reading that.

Nah, **** it, chuck Neesham in there as well.

You know what I was saying Reggie. It was what a lot of us were saying, and it seems that a very senior player agrees.:):thumbsu:

You left out the representatives of the administration who oversaw the previous lack of a culture of excellence. The only thing that has changed is Ross, apparently everything else before was shit and a lot of the people responsible for that are still there.

Do you still have your kicking boots on?

Reg

Regardless of your axe to grind when you hear comments from senior players saying that its hard not to agree with him. Harvs wasnt the one to take us further and its not just Harvs it previous mgt as well. Its a plus mark for the Steves as well.

I don't see it as a plus mark for the Steves, I see it as a plus mark for Ross.

I can't see why people just can't acknowledge Lyon's level of expertise without also singling out one particular past coach to sink the slipper into at the same time. Its not like they're joined at the hip.

Because McPharlin made specific mention of it?

Then you'll have no trouble quoting it for me, will you?

Sometimes you just have to read between the lines old son.;)

What do you want us to say Reg??

That Schwab was a knob?? Well of course he was, but he saved us financially.

That Rick Hart was an incompetent twat? Well he was at times, but he bleeds purple.

That, at times, we had Eagles/WAFC stooges as CEO's and board members.

Yes, we have ****ed up big time in the past.

But with the current administration we have, and some of the tough choices they have made, (SOME TO YOUR CHAGRIN), we have never looked any better, EVER.

It is most certainly NOT all about Ross, but he is the current face of the club, and is acknowledged far and wide for finally having turned us into a professional and broadly respected outfit.

Mate.
