AFL Autopsy Round 1, 2019: Flogging from GWS

Early misses can certainly set the tone for the day, especially when we had lots of entries.

After all the hard work, they get gimme goals from turnovers & soft frees, flattens us

I know what you're saying but if the team drops their bundle as soon as things don't go to plan or is there is a setback then there are serious issues. Would not happen to the likes of Richmond, Sydney of years past etc.

Really disappointing. Looked flat and out of any ideas when whatever the game plan was wasn't working (credit to GWS for how they set up).

Also, I don't think I've ever seen a side fumble or simply drop the ball so often. I know it was humid and the ball must have been a bit slippery but that was ridiculous.

Absolutely agree. If we don't get early ascendancy we seem to have no fight.

Are we sure there wasn't something wrong with our GPS readers? Those readings are so off-the-scale less than anyone else that it really doesn't seem believable.

Yes, even with how bad our performance was.

Despite their win, the Saints game will be rightfully viewed by Essendon supporters as a must-win. First game for the year for this team in front of their own supporters. Nowhere to hide. Good.

Surely it was an error. If it wasn’t there should be instant deistings. Bring in top ups again.

Horrible.
No accountability and lazy **** no two way runners
Forward line was inept and let the ball out oo easy
Midfield was horrendous and didn't man up and defend HARD.
#9 take a bow son you had a fair dinkum dip!
And i loved Pigeodo's first go as a middy
TBell slow as a glacier and new ruck rules mean more mobility - look at Goldstein.. dominated but was left lamenting around the ground

OUT Brown, Bags, Smacks, Myers, Ambrose
Parish (run), Long (run), BZT (Franga forward), maybe Stewart or Clarke in the ruck and anyone who thinks they have skills.

Maybe we forgot to strap them to the players and they were in the coaches pockets

Glad to see Zaharakis having a good time after the game.

Not only would I drop him, I’d be making it publicly known he’s been suspended.

Seriously what do we expect from senior players?

From what I can tell they are all elite at being enamored with their own achievements.

Honestly, the more i think about the more i think we have a deep problem in this team.
To come out round 1 with absolutely no intensity and tackling pressure is a terrible sign. We weren't simply beaten by a better team or our structures didn't let us down, our team just did not tackle, chase or work hard at all. It just doesn't make sense at all. What the hell are they doing at Essendon HQ? Do the players have too much fun at training? All the fancy facilities. Players are being pampered. God imagine if a big european soccer club plays their first game of the season and gets smacked 4-0. There would be absolute outrage. THe players would get absolutely destroyed.

this was the team we had , round 1 in the last season we made the finals

Crazy how that team would ****ing smack our current team.

On those GPS numbers we’ll be fresh as Daisy’s next week!
I'm wondering whether they had already marked down today's game as a loss and planned to coast to conserve legs for the next few weeks. I can't think of another good reason for why our GPS distance stat would be so far below every other club. If we were really trying we should all be very worried
