Load up the forward-line and stretch the North Melbourne defence. They have no suitable matchup for Gunston and Breust.

It looks like Impey and Day will be racing against the clock to play and I think they’ll miss Round 1.

B: Hardwick, Hartigan, Jiath

HB: Sicily, Frost, Scrimshaw

C: Morrison, Mitchell, Phillips

HF: Gunston, Lewis, Wingard

F: Breust, Koschitzke, Moore

R: McEvoy, O’Meara, Worpel

INT: Ward, Reeves, Bramble, Newcombe, MacDonald (Sub)

EMG: Nash, Grainger-Barras, Howe, Shiels

This will be my team for Round 1, assuming that Impey and Day miss. CJ misses and we could see Morris or DGB.

Yeah, pretty sure that is the only time he has made Round 1 since joining the club.
So, if he plays it's a 50% record over four years?

Hardly "for a change".

Highlights from norths intraclub - their defenders get caught out really easily. Play direct footy, it's at least a 5 goal win
Challenge for us will be drawing level in the midfield. Do that and we should be much better around the ground.

Same as last year. 5 goals up when we stopped winning any clearances. Will be an uphill fight if we can’t get our hands on it though.

North smashed us in the clearances last time (50/28). Goldstein dominated in the ruck and Simpkin had more clearances (14) than Mitchell, O'Mceara, Worpel, Cousins, Wingard and Shiels combined (13). Cunnington also had 13 and LDU had 11. Best described as embarrassing (although that could be generous).

It is stating the obvious to say that getting on even terms with the clearances is the key. Reeves is a good start. He has the reach to go close to squaring the contest. Newcombe and/or Nash will be critical to stopping easy breakaway clearances. I favour playing both if Nash is ready.

Thankfully the side that rolled over to the worst side in the comp transitioned into a much better side in the second half of the year with a couple of personnel changes.

Mitchell will demand a much more competitive performance in the middle**, and with Newk, Nash, Noodle and Maginness at his disposal he has more options now than Clarko did last year.

** I think we labored on the same players far too often last year, hoping they're produce something special

That's true, but Cunnington won't be there this time, and he absolutely destroyed us in that 2nd half.

Cunnington won't but JHF will and he will be keen to show why he was #1 in the draft. He has been playing with men in the SANFL so won't be intimidated.
With all due respect to Horne, it's his first AFL game, and you simply cannot compare him to the player of the ilk of Cunnington at this stage. He had 15 clearances that day. Cant see Horne doing that in his first game.
