Of that list of outs I think only Bramble, Brockman and maybe Kossie will get games.

Bruest

I just hope he gets some 1 on 1 looks. If we play slow he will be double teamed all day
Look, I've been a fan of Lewis for about four years , backing him in even when some posters were calling him out for being lazy but..... No excuses from here on in! İnjury permitting he HAS to work out a way to be involved in games more often, if that means working higher up the ground to take marks or drag defenders with him, then so be it. İmo he is a better player then just a stay home full Frwd relying just on teammates hitting him up lace out. This is the year, for mine, where some of 3-5 year players need to show more than just potential. (This includes worps).

Harsh on McEvoy! I think Hartigan and Howe will get games if for no other reason because of covid cases.

Some selection surprises for me that's for sure. Totally different approach to Clarko.

No doubt I'll cop some hate but I still expected Hartigan to play because Sicily is so much better loose and is a bit suspect defensively. DGB is also still so raw.

Also didn't expect Maginess to play round 1 - didn't think his form warranted it.

No Kozi is also a surprise - really heaps the pressure on Lewis who I expect will have a tough day of it as the only genuine key forward.

Be bloody exciting if it works going this young though.

I haven't seen them in the flesh this summer, is DGB big enough to start taking on some key defensive roles or is he going take the 3rd tall?
Would have to be the 3rd still. The good thing is he clearly knows how and likes to use his body so when he fills out, it will be a real weapon.

Good that he'll develop a bit quicker than he would in the VFL, but a shame that Sic will have to play more accountable.

It is interesting we have persisted with Finn at hbf. Was solid defensively but didn’t get a lot of the ball there against Richmond. Did look good once out on the ball. Would greatly assist his chances of selection if he can play there and switch on ball. We need some more versatility among our players.

Quick question folks. Haven’t been to a live game for a few years, even longer to the “G”. Have downloaded 3 tickets for myself and family members through our memberships, all different rows and seats. As they are GA seats, level 4, do we have to sit in those ticketed seats or is it first in best dressed. Any info is appreciated, as couldn’t get through to the club today, I imagine they’d be flat out. Also is the MCG car park open? Cheers and here’s to a great display, Sunday!🔵⚪
The MCG car park is closed to the general public for all games this round (according to their website). It’s only open to accredited and disability permit holders.

There will be a lot of midfield rotations. Maginness will not be parked on the back flank all game. If we have a strategy for this game, it is to exhaust the opposition mids.

This is a great post Todman. Shows we are heading in the right direction.

Given Sicily, scrim and CJ are very attacking we can likely accommodate Finn playing a more defensive role. Is not a bad match up for stephenson. Still it’s the midfield where he needs to be.

This is so far from what Clarkson would have selected.

3 mids on the bench, 1 on the hbf and 3 on the half forward line.

I mentioned this a few weeks back that it is silly to play your 30th best player just cause they are a forward pocket instead of a mid.

Clarkson would have picked brockman, s Mitchell or morris over one of ward, MacDonald, Finn, Nash, Newcombe.

Also leaving out Hartigan shows that we are all in on youth. I think Frost will be better as a pure stopper leave rebound to scrim, sis, Hardwick and cj. Dgb will take 3rd tall after Frost and Sicily, scrimshaw to play the loose interceptor like last year. Dgb did some great things in his games last year and he also has lots and lots to work on, hopefully he quickly adapts.

Sam is being bold and not only is he going youth but a vastly different approach with more mids and less tall forwards. This will be good for the future of our team but with guys like Phillips, Hartigan, howe missing out and likely shiels too soon we will likely be bottom 4.

Some of our young players will have absolute stinkers through the year that you will never get from a 100+ gamer but we know that the ceiling on ward is about 100m above Howe's.
