Byrnes played his best game for us, I reckon. This hopefully could be his breakout year.

Marshalls stats aren’t great, but he made so many marking contests and spilled the ball to ground a heap of times.

Philipou, Mitchito and Caminiti are so cool and collected. They almost look like they’ve got 50 games under their belts.

Things are looking good. It’s good to have Ross back in the box

Totally agree about Byrnes and Marshall.

Caminiti showed something today up forward, a real competitor, when we get King, Membrey and Hayes back look out.
He's a mongrel. Just before halftime he entered a ground level contest to throw his weight around and absolutely ironed out Brayshaw. Loved it

Thought Marshall was BOG at half time. Lost the ruck but dominated around the ground. You're right about Byrnes, career game for him. And the kids look great.

The backline was absolutely humming. Soooo good.

And we ran out the game better than them which is sweet.

Gresh had some headscratching moments, but in the end his work in the forward line won us the game I reckon.

Also thought Crouch was huge. Big hats off to Byrnes.

A real even team performance and amazing to win despite their backs taking about a million intercept marks. Says a lot about how good our backs were.

Did I mention our backline?

Surprised we overcame those f'in umpiring maggots...felt like 18 vs 21. It's funny watching them try and even out the free numbers once the game is decided with meaningless frees for us...compared to the bs shots on goal for those fools. Those umpires should be glassed. At least they lost their bets this time despite being on the take.

Also, I told everyone in the pre season thread months ago that Byrnes would surprise a few. If I knew how to quote from other threads I would prove it. Kid’s got wheels.

What a ******* win.

I’d forgotten what it’s like to watch a defensively well drilled team.

With the injuries we’ve suffered, the team had every excuse to turn up its toes with the s**t umpiring after the 2nd quarter.

But they ground Freo down and deserved the win.

Fantastic stuff.

That first half was so gridded up, Freo struggled to crack us open. The start of the third quarter there were a lot of guys starting to look tired but they dug deep. I heard Wood in the car on the way home. He said that Ross told them to trust their run and fitness to run over the top of them. "If we go to the deep-end, do you think they have it in them to follow". So Lyon.

I love an underdog and there is nothing more underdog than a cobbled together band of triers going at 100% effort and taking down a more fancied side. I'm back in love with the club if that's what we're going to get from now on.
