They've gotta hold a lot of blokes.

Crouch out too now is massive.

To go with us you need a high quality midfield that bats very deep.

We'll beat them through sheer weight of quality numbers.

Crows elevating this guy to make up for the sheer weight...

I know that if we lose this game, I won't think it's the end of the world. Yet, I can't help but feel that, if we're half the team we all reckon we are, we need to be getting the job done here.
Exactly. Sure one game doesn't make the season but..... :stern look

Interested to hear who you think we need in the team.

Well, if a monsoon blows in perhaps not stick every ruckman we have in the team like last year. Or was that the year before? Anyway, we have struggled to pick balanced squads in recent years, kept giving passengers game last year, lets pick our best team on form.

Atley should take Betts. LMac and Wright don't have the pace. Scooter is needed elsewhere.

We need to stop them isolating our defenders one-out, none of our defenders are suited to Betts 1v1. Sadly, we are unlikely to have Hansen to intercept the ball coming in.

Of course, most would agree.

Who would you pick if the weather was fine?

The side I said was our best 22 for round 1 in that thread was...

FB: Wright Tarrant Firrito
HB: Atley Thompson MacMillan
C: Wells Dal Santo McDonald
HF: Harvey Waite Higgins
FF: Wood Petrie Thomas
I: Brown Ziebell Turner Bastinac
E: Gibson, Black, Jacobs, McKenzie

Realistically though, Brad will pick Gibson so there is that. I am just hoping he doesn't add Adams and Jacobs to the side for round 1.

My reasoning:

I'd give Wright first dibs on Betts, if its causing problems then Atley to go on him.
Tarrant seemed a bit better in terms of taking a few marks and his clearing the back line than Tippett, Jenkins isn't setting the world on fire atm and I have doubts they will pick Pods, they have looked better with a more mobile forward line. Perhaps stick Tippett on as Emergency in case they pick a tall team.

McDonald did the lock down on Sloane last time we played them and did a decent job, he will need to play midfield to play that role again.

The Crows plan is to put a ton of pressure on the ball carrier, I am worried about the turnovers from Gibson and Jacobs in particular, we have others who aren't pinpoint kicks but those two are my biggest concerns.

This is pretty much how i reckon we should go in. Gibson and Bastinac will be fighting for position. Tarrant and Tippett for the other.

I think Bastinac was slightly ahead on form over the practice matches but not massively, if things are going arse over **** then I am not expecting Bastinac to offer resistance, Gibbo might still give us some run and carry. Bastinac is probably a stronger force multiplier, if we can get him in position around the forward 50 he can be damaging at stoppages.

Really interested to see what back line and forward line structures will look like:

Backs:
Interested whether Thompson will go to Tex or whether Bon trusts Tarrant/ Tippett to do that job and, if so, does Thommo go to Betts or become the intercept marker?
Don't know which of these I prefer. We kept Tex quiet in NAB 1, but Riewouldt ran riot in the first half of NAB 3...Perhaps plan A is Thompson to Tex and trust Atley/ Wright to take Betts? If we can keep these two quiet, the intercept role becomes less critical.

Forwards:
Wood, Brown or Black?
Or is it Brown + Wood?

I think this is spot on - the interesting question is whether we need Tippett which pushes a Turner or Bastinac out but I wasn't overly impressed with his pre-season and think we lose too much run especially if we want to play Brown up forward.

I think we'll see Gibson come in for Turner or Wood but the team really should look very close to this.

McDonald Tippet Thompson
Atley Spud McMillan
Harvey Swallow Gibson
Thomas Petrie Higgins
Turner Waite Brown

Goldy Wells Cunnington

I/C NDS Ziebell Wright Sub Jacobs or Basti (not to fussed on who is sub)

Don't like the thought of Tarrant in our backline and will be surprised if he gets a game. Could hardly handle the pressure of a NAB game. I'd hate to think what mistakes he will make in front of 50K Adelaide fans deep in our defence.

While Tippett to me didn't seem as good, he probably got the jobs on the FF so I wouldn't be surprised if Tippett got the nod and Tarrant was kept in reserve, unless they pick Pods/JJ/Walker in their Thursday team I wouldn't pick more than two key defenders.

Brad might be thinking to pick Tippett for FB and Tarrant for Walker and have Thompson float or pick up Danger and congest space in their back 50 with basically +1 KPD. That could be risky though if they structure a more mobile forward line.

Is it just me or are North's odds of 2.20 to win incredibly good value.

A lot has been made of our key forward set-up but we have as many question marks around Tippett and Tarrant.

After a poor showing in Port Lincoln I was encouraged by Tarrant on the weekend. Tippett was manning one of the premier forwards in the competition who did receive some outstanding service at times that Silvani wouldn't have spoilt.

Some tough decisions to be made.

We are playing much better footy than ever before in a preseason under Scotts.

In saying that, it's Adelaide in Adelaide after they sacked a coach, will be some win if we get there.

This. It's going to be tough to beat them over there and on round 1. What's our record in round 1 matches under Scott again, 0- 5?
