The side I said was our best 22 for round 1 in that thread was...

FB: Wright Tarrant Firrito
HB: Atley Thompson MacMillan
C: Wells Dal Santo McDonald
HF: Harvey Waite Higgins
FF: Wood Petrie Thomas
R: Goldstein Swallow Cunnington
I: Brown Ziebell Turner Bastinac
E: Gibson, Black, Jacobs, McKenzie
Yes agree with this team overall.
The one interesting position up for grabs is Firrito vs Tippett here. Depending on who Thompson plays on could determine whether we take the extra height of Tippett over Firrito eg) Thompson takes Betts then Tippett on Walker and Tarrant on Jenkins, plus Lynch might play also which makes things interesting

Lynch and Ziebell might KO eachother.

If we win enough of the center clearances we win the game. It's as simple/obvious as that.

Our midfield / half forward / full forward line is one of the best in the league.

If we get our hands on it in the middle we should be able to beat anyone.

Being an Adelaide lad I'm conveniently heading back to visit family for Easter.

Also works out well that my SANFL team South Adelaide are the SA innovators for Good Friday football & play every year against Glenelg ...with beer for sale! So after a game of golf in the morning I shall be heading down to the Bay to watch the Panthers beat our bunnies once again & will be able to sink beers with a heap of mates I haven't caught up with for six months.

Should be a great weekend.

Just need a good start. Don't want to let them get the jump on us and have the crowd fire up! Wells is the key IMO. His class through the middle and feeding our forwards will go a long way to steering us to victory..... And by the way..... I dislike the Crows immensely!!!!

I know he's at the other end of the ground this year, but being from SA and attending the game against the crows last year, Tarrants performance still gives me nightmares. I genuinely felt like we were playing with 21 that night with him out there.

Also you can say he wasn't fit and all that, but that's just a crap excuse. If you play, you're 100% fit for it, whether you actually are or not.

In saying all that, if he gets a crack I'll put my faith in the selection, however at this stage I think Tippett, who has played his career in defence and shown last year that he can handle the big stage, should get first crack.

Also think Wright or Ats should get first crack at Betts. Wright's job on Breust last year stands out for me as I feel like Breust is a similar craft to Betts.

Ats is a gem in a one on one and obviously pacey, so would be fine with him also.

If it gets out of control for either of them, turn to Thompson, but I'd like to let him play his natural game on one of the talls and hurt them going the other way.

Last year their extra man down back smashed us. Their game plan might be a little different this year with a new coach and with some better ball users in our side we should be able to negate this.

If the extra man does get on top we need to send JZ down there to make Him accountable.

That Tarrant selection was a genuine joke, the training at the ground the night before he could hardly move. You could easily see he wasn't 100%

Crows elevating this guy to make up for the sheer weight...

Every member of that crowd looks hypnotised.

Sat next to a Souf Strayan at a Crows game once, and his way of saying "go crows" or "carn Adelaide" etc was "come on lovely boys!!" :D

I for one am looking forward to the grannies knitting away and drinking shiraz from their plastic flutes and clapping everytime one of their players sits down.

Realistically though, Brad will pick Gibson so there is that. I am just hoping he doesn't add Adams and Jacobs to the side for round 1.

My reasoning:

I'd give Wright first dibs on Betts, if its causing problems then Atley to go on him.
Tarrant seemed a bit better in terms of taking a few marks and his clearing the back line than Tippett, Jenkins isn't setting the world on fire atm and I have doubts they will pick Pods, they have looked better with a more mobile forward line. Perhaps stick Tippett on as Emergency in case they pick a tall team.

McDonald did the lock down on Sloane last time we played them and did a decent job, he will need to play midfield to play that role again.

The Crows plan is to put a ton of pressure on the ball carrier, I am worried about the turnovers from Gibson and Jacobs in particular, we have others who aren't pinpoint kicks but those two are my biggest concerns.

Sorry to be a smarta*** but that side might really struggle without its on ball brigade of Goldy, Cunners and someone else. Otherwise a very nice looking side, although a little small down back given they may have to match up on Walker, Lynch, Jenkins and Pods.

Think they'll play Podsiadly in defence.

Honestly in this game we need to set a tone.

On the difficulty level it is up there

Interstate - Tick
Opposition had a good pre season - Tick
Haven't beaten them there in a while - Tick
Have issues winning first rounds - Tick

I'm not going to be burning my membership if we lose, but f*** it'd be nice to win a round 1 for a change. Set the tone for the year of any team any time.

Time to put our money where our mouth is and play like we belong at the top.

This is a massive game.

Last year round 1 we were horrible, it was difficult to watch.

If we can come away with 4 points its a massive effort going in to a difficult run.

Not one to wish ill fortune on any team but they have signficant injuries at the moment, and we need to capitilise

For the sake of my experience riding the O-Bahn back to the inlaws post game in Adelaide, please win FFS! It'll be me versus the world on that prick if we don't, NTTAWWT. It'd be a far more serene trip post a North win anyway.

Agreed, Tarrant's game last year was one of the worst games I've ever seen any player ever play. I also felt he'd been gifted a start. Here's to him becoming a monster full-back.

A bit like sending the boys round? Accountable is a nice way of describing it. It used to be referred to as 'making him an offer he can't refuse'. ;)

Think they'll play Podsiadly in defence.
Most on the Crows board don't have Pods in their best 22. If they pick him for round 1 in defense, it will be a win for us. Basically would be saying they don't think they match our tall forwards with their genuine KPDs and will have to sacrifice a bit of run to throw Pods down back as cover. Waite could have a picnic with Pods playing on him.
