Was super impressed with how much some of our kicking skills have improved. Since when can D Merrett kick scything passes from fullback? His kicking was night & day compared to last yr when it was shut your eyes and look away stuff everytime. Lets hope tonight wasnt just a fluke.

Its a basic skill, and cant help but feel fustrated when these highly paid pros kick like some straggler off the street (yes im looking at you Hawksley, Raines etc).

Final touch now is to make sure our decision making on our kicks are up to scratch.

Cotter, I would recommend editing one of your recent posts if you want to avod a card.

i believe swearing is only banned when it is directed at a human on bigfooty! Umpires are nothing more than white maggots who spend more time stroking themselves than understanding the game!

I hate them!

It happened right in front of me and that was my thought too. Feel totally ripped off with those last two goals after it looked like we had fought for a famous victory. That umpire was ****ing useless and need to get a couple of weeks 'rest'. That HTB was such an easy decision to give and had we been rightly given it, I'm sure we would have run out worthy winners.

Will it get any match review scrutiny?...The replay showed McPharlins eyes were on Brown.... whether he could have pulled out of it..dunno?

Power in for Buchannon next week and Maguire in for Stiller. If Staker can't play which is likely than leave Stiller in the side and bring in Maguire for Staker. If Browny doesn't get up bring in Retzlaff.

Anyway onto the game. Daniel Rich is a superstar. Simon Black still is and always has been:thumbsu: Rockliff, Redden and Banfield all played well like expected. Staker and Brown were fantastic as well until they got injured. The 3 debutantes Beams, Lester and Bewick were all fantastic as well! I also loved Hnaley's game:D As for the umpires well my opinion is the same as just about everybody's and I went off at them tonight when that Hill call was not paid!!! Anyway what can you do:rolleyes:

Go Lions im so proud of you boys:thumbsu:

This might have been mentioned but Jared Brennan was there tonight. He lined up for gen admin tickets and stayed the whole game. Was with the tall bloke from gold coast, could have been Zac Smith. Unusual seeing him there.

Impressed by the effort by the boys tonight.

Impressed especially by the debutants.

Unimpressed with the umpiring.

Unimpressed by the Sub rule - although we had multiple injuries, in the scheme of things it was probably a factor influencing the outcome tonight.

Still some work on skills needed from some players, but overall better than 2010 by a long stretch. Impressed by some of the guys we need to lift this year: Polkinghorne had 21 touches and a goal and O'Brien looked ok. In addition to guys like Beams, Bewick and Lester who were pretty good on debut, the future is looking good. May be a long year i 2011 but I am less worried about the future now!

Might also say that this might be a positive for Voss and an indication that things have improved at the club since the turmoil from last year.

some of your young players are guns, I know a loss like tonight can be disheartening to a young group but if they play like that every week you will improve leaps and bounds ahead of last year.

Fantastic effort by the lions tonight, made me soooo proud!!! Last 3 weeks have been great for us :D:thumbsu:

Nothing but positives from that game (bar injuries and umpires). The future looks promising. P.S we need to lock in Rich forever, give him whatever he wants to stay!!!

I refuse to believe that yet again injuries are going to cruel our season :( I hope it does not become a reoccurring thing such as last season.

Lastly I really hope Brown and Staker are ok. Browns face looked as if it had been indented and his eyes were messed up :( Never seen the big man that vulnerable before, kind of scary!!!

To lose Staker to a suspected ACL is just devastating, we have had our fair share of those over the years

GO LIONS :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

brisbane's depth tested after just one game.

who's going to kick goals next week, certainly not clark, he is wasted space on the forward line while he cannot kick.

it was so frustrating watching brisbane dominate in the first half but not relect on the scoreboard, every time they got a lead they let fremantle back in. Had they been able to do that, they may well have absorbed fremantle's rush at the end, when we had injured players

that was our one winnable game from the first four weeks, playing an undermanned team (10 to 12 first up players not playing) who were miles away from home. we should have cleaned them up.

i believe swearing is only banned when it is directed at a human on bigfooty!

Just to clarify, BigFooty has a swear filter. If you try and avoid that swear filter, regardless of the circumstances, you open yourself up to receiving an infraction.

It is OK if it appears like this - "the umpires rat ****ed us."

I am going to email the club to let them know just how proud I feel of our whole team, from Vossy down..

Our youngsters must be encouraged and know how we feel, to hold their heads high and not feel they let anyone down..

They also need our encouragement to now be the face of our club going into the future, and more than ever, with Brown and Staker out, they need to come out week after week, play like they did last night, and eventually the wins will happen..

It really was an honourable loss, a brave honourable loss..

Could not be more proud of them!:)

So many positives to take out of that game IMO. Our future really is in safe hands. Obviously the negatives are the injuries but there is not much we can do about those. Just hope Clark and Retzlaff are ready to rumble next weekend. If we keep showing pride in the jumper like last night I can't complain at all.

Probably a lot to with his small stature, but being knocked out repeatedly does not make you hard. I don't recall Pike, Brown, the Scott's or even a Byron Pickett necessarily being knocked out with any regularity. There is not much you can say about Troy Selwood though.

Either way, what Voss sees in Buchanan compared to what I, or a lot of other Lions people over the past couple of years do are at complete polar opposites.

I've not read this thread since yesterday, so apologies if this has been covered, but I thought it worth mentioning that Buchanan was the catalyst for at least two goals last night by diving fearlessly into contests head-first.

What did people think of Stillers game ? He seemed to make way to many unforced errors for me, he was more of a liability when he got the ball. I didn't see if he was doing a good defensive job or anything to make up for it.

Hanley seemed a bit nervous and had a fair few mistakes as well, but he held is man and was trying to do the right thing. For me it that makes a huge difference.

Yup he was good, had a real impact on the game.

Oh, and Raines did a good job on Pav - thought he'd get killed by the height difference, but he found a way to spoil more often than not. Power to him.

Wasn't impressed by Stiller or Hanley TBH Chopper. Both (particularly Hanley) showed a lot more against the Suns.

I was writing a running record on plays, players and highlights during the game and while I did make note of a couple of disposal clangers and poor choices from Stiller, he also did some great in and under work around packs, getting plenty of hard ball. The same was true of Raines. A couple of dud disposals, but also some fantastic tackling and fearless body work. A Raines highlight was his 1st quarter inside 50 long pass that was marked by Brown, who went back and kicked the goal. Some of Merrett's efforts were also excellent. One of his best games for a while.

Looking back at my notes, I was more disappointed with some of Adcock's efforts. It was also clear that Handley struggled a bit with the pressure.

All that said, like most people who have posted, I am so proud of the Lions.

One observation from last night and the pre season games I attended in Melbourne.

We CANNOT LOSE DANIEL RICH

Throw plenty cash at the young champion. He is our future.
