Actually cannot see any way we can win this, mainly from a mental side of things. Mentally I'm still scarred from the GF and I didn't even watch/couldn't watch the last 20 minutes. These blokes were on the field when we were slaughtered.

If we win on Wednesday it will be one of the all time great H&A wins in history.

I can see how we win. Our midfield is absolutely humming. The amount of ball we got against Brisbane shows is that. Now, we add Libba.

For me, it’s as simple as adding Schache into the forward line and putting Gardner (If healthy) into his role.

Quick question. I have a Western Bulldogs Away membership. Do anyone know if I can just rock up on the night and scan my ticket? (assuming all seats aren't sold by then).

I can't see anything on tickettek, and my only option on there is to purchase a seat.

Thanks!

It's all through the Bulldogs App now. Tickets will appear on there 72 hours before the first bounce.

If you just want GA, you don't need to do anything but add the tickets from the app to your wallet and scan at the gate.

Check out the club's website and also emails on how it works

The problem is that even if we get 70 inside 50s, that counts for almost nothing if half of them end up marked by Jake Lever. Also, Melbourne's team defence is miles ahead of the two teams we played in our practice matches. We will have a much harder time moving the ball from end to end against Melbourne, and if our inside 50s continue to be sloppy, then they will feast on them. Conversely, Melbourne are so efficient when they go forward. They have a bunch of talented forward specialists in Fritsch, Pickett, Brown and McDonald, who are excellent at turning F50 entries into shots on goal. Melbourne also match us in the midfield, which is our area of strength. It's just very hard to see where we can find any kind of an edge or advantage against them. I feel like they have us covered in every aspect of the game.

Lever having 35 intercept marks would be a spectacular sight. Not sure if even be mad if I witnessed that.

Calling McDonald a talented forward specialist is a massive hyperbole. He’s a very one dimensional forward prop. Fritsch is an elite medium forward, Pickett is an up and comer who is inconsistent but very talented and Brown is a hit up speicalist who thrives in a good system, even though within Melbournes system last year he still largely struggled.

It was the Dees system and belief in each other’s strengths last year that propelled them to the heights they achieved. Not their talented forward specialists.

Petty won’t be playing for the Dees round 1, if it matters.

I really do want to go, but I REALLY don’t want to see Melbourne unfurl their premiership flag. What time would that happen, do we think? Ideally would miss that and just rock up for the opening bounce.

Sadly, I had to give up my membership this year as the wife and I have to save every cent for a house. Think I should be able to get a ticket?
What I want to know is if they have added the lockdown asterix to the flag?
Last year's premiership is a poor man's flag. Just ask any supporter would they rather win a flag in a normal year where teams aren't compromised with travel and lockdowns whilst playing in front of empty stadiums and every one of them will say 'absolutely'...

Pull ya head in!!
Everyone is forgetting that we are last team to beat Melbourne and we did it 3 weeks before the finals by a very comfortable 20 points.
Yes, they outperformed us in the GF and it got away from us but we ran out of legs. We travelled and were locked up more than any other team last year so the fact that we made the GF in itself is the amazing thing.

Haven't thought about the Perth GF much since. If we'd lost it in a normal season I'd definitely dwell on it, but losing a random night game in Pert against another Vic team, after not being able to go to any games, etc, just didn't feel totally real and hasn't stung nearly as much as the 2015 EF, or the various PFs.
This!
2021 was a joke of a year and as far as I'm concerned those silvertails can have their second rate flag because no one gives a shit.

Yeah this is just not true. If we had won it wed be spruiking the greatest flag ever. Facts are, we were demolished in that last 45 minutes of football. Then to play the same team in the first game back next year, I just cant see how we win it. Like I said, hope I'm wrong but will be astonished and proudly so if we do win.

It'd also be a lot harder to explain away if we'd all been sitting in the stands at the G watching the ignominy of our capitulation.

We got flogged fair and square.

Do you have any inkling/whispers about the Josh Dunkley to Adelaide rumours?

Our forward line certainly doesn't look potent particularly with the calibre of the Demons' tall defenders and the fact that Naughts will have to beat at least one of these in every contest. Be prepared to see Cordy selected to play a nuisance/negating role on Lever.

I wouldn't mind Cordy on Lever, Schache on May, and Gardner and Keath holding down the fort in the back line.

You spent a lot of time ignoring the central point of my post and discussing inconsequential details. Bottom line = Melbourne are better than us in pretty much every metric that counts.

Avoid the long bomb on to Lever and May's heads and up our forward 50 ground level game and we are in this to our eye balls (given our midfield and team defence are up and going).

Maybe that was the method to our pre-season madness of bombing it in so much, avoid May & Lever.

How do you figure that when we aren't spruiking that we're the greatest runner up ever?

If it's not good for the goose, it isn't good for the gander.

There's no doubt Melbourne's forwards are considerably better than ours. Stats don't lie in this regard. This is last season's goal-kicking result (average per game) of the main, 'permanent' forwards in each team.
Brown 1.9 Naughton 1.9
Fritsch 2.5 Hannan 0.8
Pickett 1.6 Weightman 1.6
McDonald 1.4 Vandermeer 0.6 If you want to add Schache as a forward which I don't think will happen: 0.6

This doesn't mean of course that we can't beat them but it gives us an idea of the task ahead of holding them and getting our midfielders to kick a significant number of goals.
