Also like to see us go smaller in the forward line.

Might've made a difference on Friday.

Not sold on Kai but there's only one way to find out. We obviously rate him so give him a couple of games.

Just my personal view but I fail to see what Dizz brings to a forward line in a full throttle match if you're a top team.

But he's a solid reliable defender.

Zero chance. Our mentality went down the toilet.

I just don't see three talls working. If it didn't work with Gunston, it won't work with Dizzy.

I think Kai has earned the chance - needs to be given a few full games.

Unless you're Josh Green, playing as the sub makes it so hard to get into the game.

It did. Go down the toilet that is.

My point relates to when the match was there to be won in the last quarter. We ended up having to throw Payne into the forward line to at least try and shore up our defence.

It might've been handy to have someone nippier running on to the ball because we had enough of it.

My worry is that Fremantles midfield run us off the ground. They have two rucks to monster Oscar, and depending on how many of their big bodied ball winners (Fyfe, Brodie, O'Meara, Johnson) play, they could select two different styles of midfield.

Who is their second ruck?

Really hoping to see some bounce back. Lachie’s comments today were scathing, and I imagine they were as much directed at himself as everyone else, rather than throwing the team under the bus.

Hopefully it’s a sign of what the feeling is internally. Contrary to what some on here believe there is such a thing as a mulligan, especially in the first game of the season.

Would expect a strong showing from those that would be disappointed in their own performances. Looking for Wilmot and McKenna to provide the quick decision making off our half back line.

Weirdly Im not not worried about their big mids like I am against other teams. Someone like Brodie I see like Lyons in can be exploited without the ball.

Their run has definitely troubled us in the past but they have also changed their team up a lot in the last year or so. Young is playing in the midfield now I think - he was very good against us last time and Im a big fan of him.

Serong is a danger as always but he is smaller at least

our midfield is better than fremantle's if they play to their standard, even without ashcroft. mix is likely brayshaw, serong, young and fyfe. fyfe looked good in close in preseason but i dont think has any explosiveness left and is likely to be a liability in open play and away from congestion.

young did a decent job on neale last year but neale still played quite well through the attention. i would back dunkley, neale, mccluggage with rotations starting from rayner, bailey and zorko in to get on top of freo. jackson is the wildcard - oscar simply must perform better than he did against carlton

Daniel Hoyne from Champion Data with Cornes and Healy on SEN this morning.

1- Hoyne would send Dayne Zorko back to replace Coleman's elite distribution, he was the highest rated kick in the AFL in 2023  by a long way.
2- Cornes said the Lions should look at sending Hugh McCluggage back.

I’d have Zorko down back as well. I think we can tinker with Bailey/Lohmann etc to replace whatever role Zorko was providing prior to the Coleman injury.

The equation becomes easier if Doedee comes in and plays well.

We need Hugh in the middle.

I'd be very keen to see us use Hugh McCluggage down back. We know he will lose midfield minutes once Ashcroft comes back anyway so imagine if it works out for us!

We've been staring Zorko forward and pushing him way up the ground to use his kicking. We could continue doing that

Maybe when Ashcroft is back and in form we could push Clug to the wing and get him to push into the backline

Means we don't have any decent kicks on the half forward line. Maybe Rayner has to play more outside

Linc is a good kick as well. Maybe he can find more of the footy

Have a feeling our slow start to the season will continue this weekend. Hopefully it's just a slow start though, like 2021 and 2023.

30 on sunday in Perth, 350pm start. At least it’s a mostly shady stadium now

We shouldn’t theoretically struggle in the heat but all i can think of is us wilting v port last year…

Fremantle won't struggle with the heat either. They've had a far hotter summer than Brisbane has experienced. Less humidity though.
