The one issue without Jenkins is we have no one else remotely equipped to play 2nd ruck.

Will it be Hugh, or Keath.... who else. Daniher is their 2nd ruck and he's pretty handy.
I Like CEY. Jacobs loves playing the entire game and Cam can give him a 5 min breather each half.

I would prefer JJ gets his shit together but on the evidence so far he is miles away.

Literally does not matter in the slightest who we play as second ruck

Totally agree.

Reckon Cam can do it but will they risk him coming off an ACL on a rock hard ground

Agreed, but Douglas didn’t help with our actual defending.

Hartigan forgot the basics of defending. I thought Doedee did well.
Actually thought Douglas did defend ok & did the small team things too.

Doedee did well apart from cleaning up his teammates.

10 hitouts and I would love to know how many to advantage. 8 disposals, 1 contested possession, 2 marks, none inside 50 and 0.0. That’s a disgrace.

Compare him to 18 year old Fogarty. 14 touches, 5 contested, 8 marks, 4 inside 50 and 3 goals.

Fogarty has to play ahead of him.

Greenwood/CEY/Lynch could all pinch hit in the ruck.

I’m still fuming at Jenkins’ rubbish GF performance and I want us to hold him to a higher standard.

[I know plenty had poor games in the GF - Jenkins didn’t put in]

He had broken ribs, he put in more than most

He did? That’s seriously news to me - when did it happen?
Reliably informed late in the first quarter. JJ half confirmed it during the summer on radio, but wouldn't offer it as an excuse.

He has been poor for a while, but he wasn't even our worst forward today which tells you alot.

Wait on tomorrow ?? The SANFL side played and won today.

For me Murphy plays, and Fogarty does Too regardless of whether Tex is fit. Jenkins was a non-event again and Gov looked like a B grade country footballer.

Our midfield is settled, slightly concerned about our defence and their ability to deal with smaller setups.
Gov also aggravated his ankle early, clearly wasn't playing 100% today.

Was a bit of a waste playing him after that, he needed to give it a spell.

Heat played a factor in putting him back on.

I thought Dougie got a couple of good spoils in, quite liking this new role for him. Hartigan was basically our best player in the GF, I can forgive him for a shit pre season game.

Could have done with our 26th - Dear.

Given Jenkins current output, I’d rather play CEY as second ruck, gives us an extra midfielder and can play Fogarty, who looks like he’d give a contest at least, instead.

Are we seeing a footballer still scarred by his rib injuries from last year. He’s now had 2 games as our #1 key forward and has phoned it in for both, 1 behind and 12 touches to show for it from 78 and 85% game time. I can understand some players not giving it their all in a trial match, but that? It won’t happen, but this is the time to be making statements.

Either way, perhaps looking like a slow start to the season, too many best 22 in poor form or coming off restricted preseasons coupled with the short preseason to start with. Actually wouldn’t surprise if we’re still in a pretty heavy training phase, where we’ve almost written off the 1st two rounds as “bonus wins” or “trial games”, focusing instead on having the first 22 genuinely good to go from about round 3. It’s a dangerous game, but it’s a similar situation to what sydney were in last year, the issue is if it takes too long for things to click and you miss that top 4 spot.

Agree with that except for the heavier training loads, no way would they not be trying to prime themselves for round 1.

Righto - I never read any match reports and tuned out from media for a while after that peformance.

Just fast forwarded through the last half.

At centre bounces Jenkins went in for 3 ruck contests for the half, Sauce took the rest.
Concede those 3 and put an extra big bodied mid in and shark the opposition ruck.
around the ground put our best wrestling big body on their ruck.

No more gold passes, Jenkins to get games purely on good form.

You wouldn’t have thought so, no, but we’ve had a pretty tumultuous off season, a few key of season changes with some big roles to fill, an extremely short off season and a number of key players coming back from injury with limited preseason game time. Might just look to take the pressure off the first 2 rounds.

At the very least, it wouldn’t surprise me if we put in a couple of sub par performances early. The 22 just doesn’t seem anywhere near as settled as last year and I think our preseason form has kind of reflected this, although 2 genuine games isn’t much to go on.
