Heh. Dea was well below average and can't kick over a jam jar. Merrett wasn't at his best but will be a lock in the 22.
Merrett will probably be given another chance or two, but he is one more bad game off being a lock for diddly squat. I'll take lethargic performances from the likes of Bird and Goddard in the preseason, but it sticks in the craw coming from Merrett. I just want him to want it more!

I'm actually flying over from Perf to Coolangatta next week.

Not to go to watch our boys @ the metro dome, but to go to the Byron Bay Bluesfest.

Footy is just not a priority atm.

Gold Coast only about 31.5 on the spread.

You can put your life savings on that.

Hopefully I'm wrong but I think it's going to be a very long year and difficult to watch.

All that matters is that we get most of our suspended players back I guess.

I don't expect you to consider my opinion (precedent). Dea was hard at the ball, rebounded well and won numerous one on one's. Jacko has been sub-par for a while now, lots of people still hanging onto 'that' Carlton game from a couple of years ago.

Haven't you heard? J Merrett is one of our top 10 players

Back to back hot days against the second best team of 2015 playing our band of misfits. West Coast will be launching a serious assault this season once again, and us, well... ever watched the Benny Hill intro?
That's awesome, anytime I feel the slight need to be frustrated at our player this year (which will probably not happen too often as my expectations are pretty low) I'll imagine this music playing in the background.

Actually moving up to the Coast very shortly. Going to be touch and go as to whether I'll be up in time for the match though.

Go up early, just in case ;)

Average games played from those sides:

Gold Coast: 80.8
Essendon: 78.8

So they shade us in the experience compartment.

I think a stat that everyone should be using is games played with each other as opposed to games played in total.

Not quite sure if that's a stat that can be worked out but we would be dead last on that stat this whole season.

I don't have that much time on my hands

Nice write up eth-dog.
Like a few others on here though I dont agree with you re J.Merrett and reckon he could benefit from some time in the twos.
He's not alone though - Kommer & Ambrose aren't up to it at this stage (not sure they ever will be), and theres a few others.

I'd have a team like;-

Tipungwuti Brown Baguley
Gwilt Hartley Gleeson
Goddard Simpkin Zakka
Cooney McKernan Langford
Grimely Daniher Stokes

Jamar Crowley Z.Merrett

Bench from: Kelly Dea Bird Leaunberger

Bird needs to lift - if he doesnt this game drop him
Tippa deserves a run, as does Dea who has been good
Grimely in by the skin of his teeth - play him for a half if he does nothing take him off - throw Jamar into the forward pocket & Leaunberger can play second half in ruck. At least we have a few tall options...
Really hoping we can be competitive here...its going to be a big test they will be fired up for this one on their own turf and it could get ugly...
Comon Bombers....!!!

I for one look forward to spending many a night this year on the internet reading these forums after we've been pummeled and reading the ridiculously negative comments therein from the same old boring negative nellys. Go Bombers! Go Development! Go low expectations!

Way to go Mr. Positivity.

If we get it under 10 goals it will be a miracle.

Need to go out there and try to beat GC don't want the team to get into the habit of "it's ok to lose" thats how you create a losing culture the 2 last performances were unacceptable.

I don't think effort was the problem in our final two NAB losses.

Fans really need to get their head around the fact that we're going to see quite a few 100+ point losses this year.

I understand we all want to be positive and everything, but we're going to be noncompetitive most weeks. It's just a fact. We lost 8 of our top 10 players. Any other club would be the same.

Oh I know we will cop a couple of a 100+ loses but also don't want us to look completely hopeless either.
