Think you were watching a different game.
As aptly put by Rubber Hips
Baltas lights were on but not at home AGAIN.
We may get away with it while Grimes and Tarrant are still around but God help us when they're gone.
I prefer Miller tbh.
Balta to play millers role and access our options at years end on the best way fwd with Balta.
Nah, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

Dan Rioli had an absolutely sublime game. One thing overlooked was his last second ball and all tackle on O'Brien. Didn't give away a free kick and ensured the ball didn't spill out. He's an absolute star. He misses that, Carlton win.

Other positives:
Taranto. Beast on the inside. Great to have a big body that can stick a tackle too. How many times did we get dominated by bigger inside midfielders waltzing it out of the middle? Made a huge difference.
Lynch. Picked up where he left off last year. Clunks them like no other. Any danger of a blocking free paid to the man? That one in the last quarter with 2 mins to go was one of the most obvious ones I've seen in recent times.
Dusty. Looks fit and hungry.
Grimes. Back to his intercepting, miserly best.
When it clicks, we are going to be a very very hard team to beat. No obvious weakness in the team.
Even that chase down in the final qtr, he didn’t get the tackle but he put 110% into the chase even with an empty tank against an oppo with fresh legs

No stat gained and didn’t affect the play but that is the type of efforts that makes the team stronger and everyone else work a little bit harder

remember the bears game comeback

cumbo was instrumental in that and we played with a shite tonne of pressure that day with him and maurice junior in the same forward line

needs to play every game
Bears at the G is like fords at Bathurst.

We take the 2 points but geez we should’ve won! 66 inside 50’s to 45 should be at least a 3-4 goal win! Most of the stats went our way except 2, center clearances 10-6 and free kicks suprise surprise! Our pressure was good, many repeat inside 50's but didn't capitalize, we had 70 tackles to 55.

We missed too many easy shots, in the first qtr, lynch, Graham, and a Taranto snap.

In the third when Lynch had his goal reversed because it was touched and then when he was running into an open goal and couldn’t get his boot directly on the foot and got touched. And late in the third Bolton does an inside banana kick, silly, and hits the post (on the full).

In the last quarter Bolton again directly in front decides to kick across the body. I love him but can get a bit showboaty and gave up a 50 in the 3rd qtr which resulted In a goal to Carlton. In the last Ross had a shot but couldn’t even get a point from 35-40 meter shot.

We had the ascendancy in the last six or seven minutes and had more opportunities on goal in that time and Lynch should’ve been kicking to win the game not draw it.

It was swirly but I liked our forward handball game we sliced through them many times but tended to blast away into forward 50, not too much lowering the eyes!

Dusty doesn't defend. If Cumberland learns how to defend then he can have Dusty's spot according to Dimma logic. It's a crazy comparison.
I think you misinterpreted what Dimma meant.
Dusty and Cumberland play similar roles and are similar types of players.
If Cumberland learns a more defensive game style he comes in for Mansell, not Dusty.

We just can't have too many of the same type in the forward line. Look at how our forward line is currently made up.
Tom Lynch - Monster KPF
Jack Riewoldt - Smart/Mobile KPF
Dustin Martin - Powerful mid sized forward
Shai Bolton - X Factor small forward but can play on anyone
Maurice Rioli - pressure first small forward
Then a spot for a resting mid or high forward flanker, like a Graham/Cotchin/Sonsie.

Cumbo's development trajectory last season was toward a Dusty type model but we need him to be a hybrid of Dusty and Maurice.
Which is why Mansell was selected.
Mansell can offer that level of pressure while still being a capable target.
Don't get me wrong, Mansell was poor last night, but you can see why having this type of forward structure would be a nightmare to deal with.

Cumbo will get his opportunity and will be a more rounded player as a result.

He could've kicked 10 and still be in the gun.
Mansell provided alot in the last 2 minutes and that contested mark on the wing to set up the goal.

I’m thrilled with last night’s game overall.

Big wins for me in regards to this season was that Martin appears hungry. His emotion at the end when trying to find out how long left, his hunger when trying to make the game winning plays with a few minutes left - he’s mentally and emotionally invested which is massive for us.

TT was huge. Forget about him being a bit scrappy … he’s going to play 100+ games for us and some are going to be low scoring slogs - he’s the perfect player we needed.

Don’t worry about Hopper. The overreaction to his game has been crazy. He wasn’t great and he was also a bit sloppy, but it’s his first friggin game for us in front of 88,000! He’s got hardness and provides awesome midfield depth …. again, he’s got 100+ games ahead for this club so let’s not crucify him on one game… and he’s coming back from a long-term injury. Prestia wasn’t great his first dozen games for us, remember?

We’ve got a really tough first 6-rounds, so if we can turn 2.5 / 3.5 or better IMO we should be cheering, as I’ve got no doubt we will be playing our best footy in the second half of the season once everyone gels together.

Keeping a likely finalist with the 2 most recent Coleman medalists to 58 points hopefully shows our defence has turned a corner with the return of Truck.

And finally …. our tackling was brilliant last night. Another reason to be optimistic. We haven’t stuck tackles for 2 x seasons, and the amount of times we held the tackle last night saved and
Created multiple goals. This has been sadly lacking. So to me they’ve clearly trained it and it’s going to hold us in good stead all season.

So after the Demons practice match I was a little concerned with elements of our game, but last night alleviated those a lot. If we can keep getting clearance domination and 60+ inside-50’a we will dominate a lot of games.

Cumberland gets a spot in the team when he does other defensive things on the field. I'm guessing that'd be Mansell's role/spot.
I could see him playing JR role in the first qtr. Lead and mark on high HF/ wing wheel and kick long to Lynch or Ryan.

Roast: I haven't been at the G since pre-COVID days and I know they are trying to keep food costs down to help the average punter but as a result of that the old chicken burger that they sold is a thing of the past. It's now so much smaller and they don't even give you a full box for it.

Bit of a let down, came home hungry last night.
Checkout a KFC 3 piece feed if you want small.

Yes,the tackling was way better to last year.
One thing severly lacking in the corresponding game last year.
