Just on the media outside of Kano is there a bigger flog in the industry than Damo
His failure to acknowledge the acquisition of hopper and Taranto fixes our biggest problem being clearance Is deadset delusional
Has he said something this morning? Even after last night, where I thought our midfield came way out on top, he’s still not convinced? Lol

Was going to write a match report, then went with the 'pictures are worth a thousand words' philosophy.

Might do it all year.

Like any minute of anyone's time is worth what the AFl has descended to, with it's 'open to every interpretation except the long established actual rules and logic' umpiring system.

Don't get me started on the somebody hand me a hammer for what's left of my brain 'commentary' that we're all now obligated to pay for to follow a team for a season.

Cheers, Gillon, what could say 'Footy is Back' better than being shoved face first into the oh-so-bloody-obvious foul stench of your bread and circuses again?

I'd post the photo from this conversation where Gillon looks like Benny smacked him flush on the nose with a wet sherrin after catching him balls deep in the family stud polo pony (it IS out there!), but unfortunately Google is apparently hiding that one for Bread and Circuses Inc.

That's where we're at and that's the match report worth filing. :thumbsu:

we will soon have a two minute time out like the NFL

Does everyone remember the scums last two games last year that they lost in the last 20 secs to miss the 8 and got 9 th 😂
Yup - Bloo's currently on a 5 match 'non-winning' streak - and next week they play last years premiers... :p

Thoughts on little Rioli when he has the ball? I'm a bit concerned.

Kids going to be an absolute jet. Will be a midfielder like his Father. Kicked two lovely sausage rolls, but like all our players kicking into the forward line, lacks from players leading at the ball.

Hopefully Cumberland adds the defensive side of his game that will allow us to keep the ball locked in our forward half so we see him a regular in the side again

Saw enough to say our best will be very hard to beat this season once we've worked through a few things. We'll get cleaner, we'll get our offense working better, those things we know and that's really all that stopped us from cutting the blooze to pieces tonight.
Thats been our MO since that fateful 2018 campaign.

Here is the thing to look at. Carlton were a lot less fumbly and a lot cleaner with the ball and we looked real rusted on. They were able to cut through cleanly and we got a draw and 2 points at the start of the season whilst actually looking s**t.
2pts better off and or a 6 goal better side than thus time last year.

Yeah,

I'm getting a bit over reading it. I do believe we are adjudicated more harshly than other teams, but the constant whinging and carry on is incredibly draining. We just need to move on and accept the fact we cop it more strict, clearly whinging does nothing about it.

Thoughts on the game:
  • Terrible game to watch, exciting finish. Probably got a bit lucky in the end. Neither team played well so a draw was what both teams deserved.
  • Need more from Hopper, Taranto great start but work on your kicking ffs
  • Bolton scored well for me in fantasy (a gamble I hope pays off) but I was not impressed with his game at all from the ground.
  • Rioli is a gun

Spot on.

  • Not a classic game by any stretch, but a definite win for the AFL coming up with a first-up draw. Lucky to escape with one. I can't comprehend Carlton's game plan to go ultra-defensive and try and hold on for the last seven or so minutes. When forced to play positive after the Lynch goal, they took it straight forward and nearly won it back.
  • Rioli, D, produced the best game of his career.
  • Plenty to work on for the GWS boys - diabolical disposal - but a good first effort.
  • Thought our disposal as a collective was poor. Miller's woeful.
  • Bolton .. well, many won't say it. But cost us the win.
  • Grimes was back to something good.

Damo on AFL site just so embarrassing in fairness to Kano just read he is pumped about the scoring potential of our forward line once the delivery is tidied up

We clog our forward line full of defenders by trying to move the ball by hand. It’s why our entries are rushed rubbish.

Teams flood back on us why we run the ball up field. Eventually we have to hack it in because the pressure is coming at us.

I know run and gun is our thing but I feel like we handball way too much. How many times did we turn it over looking for a slick hand ball when a long kick would've been much more damaging.

Had a bit of a re-look and honestly - I’ll take the two points. We were the better team, but I think to get an essentially rebuilt midfield to gel immediately is a big ask. The new boys need to learn our players running patterns, strengths and weaknesses etc (and vice versa) and it will take time. To see us win clearances, and Taranto BOG is a great start - and very exciting. A lot to improve, but as we know - cutting up the competition for the first 10 rounds doesn’t usually end well, so a bit of patience required.

Re Cumbo - who knows unless you’re inside the tent? He’s young and if he’s not doing what Dimma expects in match sim then he has to learn the hard way I suspect. Dimma defines a role and you stick to it. It didn’t work last night re Mansell, but I back him to get the best out of a young talent in Cumbo moving forward.

Re Balta - do we need an eye to the future? Tarrant will be done at the end of the year so is Balta the player to take on the gorillas in the long run? I suspect so - and he will learn a lot from last night. Young defenders can take longer.

And Shai - drop punt FFS!
