Steven Morris the 2nd playing forward. No thank you.

We have better options.
We actually have **** all small forwards now, especially with the draftees all spending most of their time down back.

Mansell is quick and tackles like a mad man. He's worth a try as a forward. We need smalls down there providing defensive pressure so that our attacking forwards can focus on scoring.

If we're a contending team Mansell is not a best 22 player. Simple as that. Especially not as a forward. He lacks football IQ, skill and creativity. He's a goer HBFer. If we want to finish bottom 8, we will play Mansell.

If an extra small forward is needed, perhaps playing small forwards as small forwards would help. Judson Clarke is a very good small forward. He is not ready to play permanent midfield. And he should not be needed to play midfield.

I’d be pretty annoyed if that was the case. Cumbo is one of our best fwds already
Apparently didn’t train so maybe a niggle of some kind, if they wanted a little more defensive pressure in the forward line Mansell would make sense

I'm not worried about missing one or two players. We will be fine.

More worried about Soldo being potentially locked into that second ruck spot. We saw all last season it didn't work then suddenly this preseason we shifted back to an archaic structure. The 2nd ruck has to be someone who can impact up forward.

No Soldo and we win.
Needs to be a grand inquest if Soldo plays ahead of Miller

Clarke is more outside. Tackling and defensive pressure is probably his biggest weakness.

I think we should be playing Steely and Seth as pressure forwards in the twos. Steely especially was a tackle machine as a junior.

At the moment MRJ is doing a role that we used to have two or three players performing.

I thought the same thing when I saw that. King George mkII
Don’t mind the pick, has a real hard edge and make a decent pair with Rioli Jr applying some heat

Even as the sub he would be a decent candidate due to his ability to play back, forward or even on the wing if needed

Went under the radar in the vfl last season but put together a pretty decent season

Mansell was tried forward last year in the VFL and did nothing, no forward craft at all. The days of average talent but good defensive small forwards are gone, name another one in the league playing. Cumberland and MRJ are good aggressive small's, but they are also forwards with talent.

Comparisons to George are a way off. Mansell isn't a complete liability ball in hand. No Clarke but he's tidy. Would kick a goal from 30 out slight angle.

Exactly. Are we in 2023 or 2010? Reminds me of the dark days where everyone celebrated Jake King as a forward because he gave effort. Except even King had a lot more talent than Mansell.

Will be loading up on Carlton's odds if we play Mansell and Soldo.

I can’t comment on Mansell as I didn’t see much of his 2022 vfl form. But I did think he played as a backman last year.

If Mansell and Soldo play I agree we may be in some trouble. It probably comes at the expense of a Cumberland and Miller/Samson.

My 22 (expecting Pickett, Short and Tarrant unavailable, and Young likely)

Vlastuin Grimes Young
Rioli Balta Broad
Kmac Prestia Baker
Bolton Riewoldt Martin
Rioli Lynch Cumberland

Nank Taranto Hopper
Cotchin Samson Miller Clarke (HRS)

This side gives run but I do question the defensive pressure. Perhaps it’s part of our new look?

If they play and we happen to win, will you come on and say you were wrong?

I think it’s more type we are looking at in that position.

Clarke is a great runner and can make the oppo pay on transition. He doesn’t cover the defensive pressure that Lynch, Jack and Dusty don’t apply.

Cumberland the better goal scorer for mine and he also gives something defensively.

But if Dimma is really worried about the lack of defensive input of our three key forwards he may sacrifice him for a guy that can also play a team game.

I’m with you though, I’d pick best available forwards than the need for a certain type that may be an inferior player.

But there’s a reason I’m a fan and not a coach.

We looked crap in both practise matches

Can we flick a switch or are we just over the hill?

Let's see
Melbourne sure looked more prepared for the season than we did.

I’m looking forward to seeing our team play in the space of the MCG.

Jack, Lynch, Cumberland, Martin and Bolton should wreak havoc up forward.

We should win more contests in the middle than we lose. Can’t wait to see Dion, Taranto and Hopper together. Went to Casey last week and only saw five mins of this combo.

Down back, we have some concerns.

Agree that it may come down to who’s more switched on early in the season for this one.
