Yep there were two distinctly different sets of rules for HTB and 15m kicks yesterday. That's the angriest I can remember getting at umpiring for a long time.

Prior opportunity didn't exist at all when we had the ball and then the exact same thing was never paid in reverse.

But it was the 15m kicks that really pushed me to the brink of throwing my remote through the TV. The new crackdown was in full force for any of our kicks that looked remotely 20m or less, while the Cats were still paid mark after mark for their 10m kicks just like the good old days.

Don’t like the crack down on 15m kicks tbh.

Another change in rules/interpretation that no one ever asked for.

I am in Melbourne on holiday. I had a ticket for the game. I had quite a bad fall in the street yesterday and have quite a few scrapes and bruises. However I found the commitment to my team to catch the ruddy train down to ruddy Geelong and watch my team totally embarrass me. They do not deserve me. They do not deserve any of us.
I feel your pain.

Loling at the people trying to spin positives and mini wins out of yesterday’s performance.

Outside of a debutant kicking a few quick goals, there was virtually nothing to be happy about. That was about as bad of a start to the year as we could get. We lost by 13 goals ffs. There needs to be massive changes if we are going to beat Sydney next week, otherwise we start 0-2 and we are officially in the toilet and JL is halfway out the door.

It doesn’t make you less of a fan to accept that yesterday was a horrid performance and we need to be a lot better. Please stop making excuses for the club.

Optimism is fine, but when your optimism crosses into delusional territory expect to be called out.

On the question of stats, good news, I asked Open AI if any team this century has conceded 147 points or more in a home and away game and still won the flag that season. The answer was it has happened once, in 2003. Brisbane shipped 160 points in a game agianst the Eagles, apparently
There's one for the optimists

Like all the new interpretations, By the later parts of the season it will hardly be called, which makes you wonder why bother at all.🤦🏻‍♂️
It’ll be one of those fad focused ones that disproportionately affects Freo in the negative and then never gets enforced proactively again. See Bobby Hill running 16 steps last night before a goal vs Erasmus taking an extra step against Bombers last year. Different rules, same old bullshit.

They've got to watch how far players run in from kick ins. A few times it looked to me that Geelong carried it out for more than 20metres after leaving the square before they kicked it.

Definitely in the minority here but I don't think this loss is the end of the world. Rather get gut punched/fact checked in round 1.

We had a few similar shockers last year and still nearly made the top 8 (even top 4).

That said, if it happens again at home against Sydney then I'm joining team burn it down.
Kinda sick of being a nearly club

Geelong fans behind me in the crowd were regularly calling out the decisions that went their way. Hadn't experienced that before

My experiences at Geelong have been very different. I was laughing at them by the end of the game such was their bias.

I’ve never watched a Freo game live at Kardinia Park either so I was sitting there as a neutral.

It’s made me wonder if we’re just as bad at Optus Stadium but I just don’t notice because I’m a Freo supporter tbh but then again I’ve been to plenty of games in Melbourne including ones with one sided crowds (i.e. Victorian vs Non Victorian) and never thought it’s been nearly as bad as Geelong.

For those that don’t remember him, this guy robbed us in the Carltank game at Gather Round last year.

I thought today’s game seemed decidedly poorly umpired so I checked and you guessed it, Alex Whetton. If you want just one example see the Freddy tackle late in the third (29 seconds to go to be precise) - exactly the same as the Cox one - perhaps more blatant - Cats player takes a few steps - wrapped up and pinged cold by Freddy directly in front of goal probably 20 metres out. Whetton says I’ll ball it up thanks suckers.

I know we sucked today, but we deserve better than this constant dogshit umpiring.

I've been told by a few posters umps don't cheat

At 3QT I was actually feeling pretty good. Was chatting to an old bloke from Geelong beside me and he was worried - we both felt Jackson had gotten on top in the middle and we had all the momentum going into the last.
I thought JOM had been pretty good throughout the game too even though plenty others had stinkers.
Worner and Walker were both awful. Dropping chapman to sub was up there with one of the worst decisions I’ve seen at selection in the JL era.

Was saying to the Geelong dude then at 3QT that I was just relieved we hadn’t folded and got beaten by 80 or 90 points, as it could have fatally ruined our season before it even started. Not for one moment thinking we’d already put the que in the rack.

Then we go and concede 64 ****ing points!!! It’s inexcusable from where we were at 3QT. How on earth could you take a team like that seriously? There was such an absence of leadership, of fight. Total utter humiliation.
That kind of thing is up there with Melbourne early 2010s era. West coast and north the last few years. The type of stuff you would see from a side accused of tanking for top draft picks.

In round one?!
With all the glitzy pre season talk of contending for the flag?!

Give me a spell. Unforgivable.

A tough coach would tell the boys to bring their mouth guards on Monday and put them through the ringer after that disgusting and shameful performance. Instead we get Pearce and JLo calling an honesty session 😂 (that is not a joke btw). I cannot state how much I hope that I am wrong because changing coaches is very daunting but I just don't see it.

Which is probably full of JL talking about how great contract security is and AP talking about playing for Tasmania in a few years.

Makes sense they follow up the pre-game hug procession with the post game verbal fellatio.

I have no doubt they could have structured to lock the game down and keep it much closer but then would have had zero chance of winning. Yes it didn't work out but thats the risk you take when you have nothing to lose because you are already losing.
