Personally rather dry conditions. Yeah it'll mean the orange team score more, but it'll also give us more opportunity to showcase some offensive firepower. Anywhere north of the Barassi Line in wet weather, we go to pieces. That was the case even when we were half decent

Our mids are smaller due to age, especially with Simpkin out, I agree. Reckon Greenwood plays if it’s wet conditions, he’s quite good in the wet, just keeps cracking in.

LOL because It's not often you see a team all the way out at $8.

For all our progress, positive pre-season, strong health, etc, we're still out at $8 with them a very short $1.08, which basically means the market expects us to get flogged. I don't disagree.
There were games last year that we and the Eagles were paying $15+ from memory

You're out of your mind if you don't want to see Tom Green vs George Wardlaw in a wet weather game.

Throw at the stumps for me:

B: Goater K.Dawson Corr
HB: Fisher Pink Sheezel
C: Stephens LDU Scott
HF: Zurhaar CCJ Duursma
F: Curtis Larkey Stephenson
FO: Xerri Wardlaw Phillips

INT: Mckercher Powell Lazzaro Greenwood
SUB: Tucker

Backs
Dawson - Hogan
Pink - Brown
Corr - Toby Greene
Goater - Daniels (Concerning)

Only reason i picked Pink in front of Comben is match ups. Pink is a better fit for Brown. Comben straight in for Freo who are a good team for him to come in and intercept in front of Amiss and Jackson all day.

CCJ has to play otherwise Buckley and Taylor will just do as they please. Taylor obviously goes to Souva, who will have a tough battle on his hands. We need multiple goals from Stephenson, Curtis and Zurhaar.

Greenwood comes in to add a bit of size and tackling pressure against this ridiculous GWS midfield. Could even tag Tom Green if need be.

Wouldnt be surprised to see Powell play a forward negating role on Whitfield or Ash as well. Both got a stack of it in opening round.

Re matchups who gets Cadman (195cm) & Riccardi (198cm)?

Corr on Greene is more concerning than Dawson on Daniels for mine. Greene is the most dangerous player in the comp when firing, can take a mark, kick goals from ground contests.

Our only chance is to win the midfield battle and deprive them of an open forward line

Re matchups who gets Cadman (195cm) & Riccardi (198cm)?

Really good question. I think that plays into our hands if they play all 4. Means 5 marking targets up forward with Toby there too. It didnt really work on Saturday night, with Riccardi struggling, because others were firing. if they all play, we might swing a late change and play Comben as well. He could sit on Cadman.

I think Riccardi might get dropped.

Who else do you suggest takes him? A fit and in form Mcdonald would probably be our best option overall.

Comben - Hogan
Corr - Cadman
Biggie/Dawson -Riccardi

I’m starting to think we need to load up with tallish defenders unless it’s very wet.

Add Brown who plays taller and Greene, then add all their small forwards, it’s a lot to cover.

I realise who I’m talking to but given comben hasn’t played a game at afl level yet, his general underdone and rehabbing nature, and clarkos comments re McDonald and corr, comben would be behind Corr. As such he’s not got to play. Though in a way it would be good because we might sub out ccj and move comben forward ….. anyway.

Hogan - Dawson
Cadman - Pink
Riccardi - Corr
Brown - Nyuon
Greene - Goater

Daniels - sheezel
McMullin - Kerch
Thomas - fish
Beford - Scott

You give Goater first crack. He’s had a great pre season and the learnings will be of huge value. Plus he isn’t too bad in the air. Goater for me please

A lot of doom and gloom in here.
It’s not all bad.
Can we win? No
Can we get close? Probably not
Will we be competitive? There might be a 5 minute patch where they don’t score on us..
Where was I going with this?

Nah seriously though, I think we’ll go ok, stay within 5 goals and show some good signs.

At the risk of having this come back to bite me, the way some of you folks in here are hyping up Toby Greene, you'd think he was peak Carey or Ablett.

Yeah, he's good. Yeah, he can burn us.
But he's not someone I'll lose sleep over.
