Its almost as if opposition coaches had never thought of rolling a taller player onto a smaller rebounding defender, bloody hell youd be a good amateurs coach matty d, you really do see the game in a simple lightHe will be moved by half time
The swans have gone tall. They will roll a tall onto him constantly making him play oversized or a close 2 on 2 leaving more room for Buddy
His player will continually take him to the goal line and then swap to a taller bloke.
I understand the concerns but im not sure this team picked really highlights them at all. Roberts maybe but other than that, which is a very debatable one, who is more deserving of a go? I think its the most bigfooty consensual team ever pickedLike most I'm a bit worried about our lack of height in the back line and the ability of our forward line to kick enough goals.
Bev is being true to form though, loading up on Plan A and not bothering much about any back up plans.
It we come out and play with manic intensity we will be a good chance but if we don't then we could be in trouble.
I'm a bit concerned about the Match committee's continued dedication to playing its pre-determined favourites whilst limiting the opportunities of alternatives to mount a selection case.
Bailey Smith and Taylor Duryea have both been selected despite less than impressive form in the JLT.
But it's hard to argue for alternatives if they didn't even get a run.
If Roberts is fit, then I still think he should have been selected in front of at least one of these 2, to provide another tall defender.

Bailey Smith here at the Dogs to find out about Bailey Scott best to head to the Norf BoardHi guys, what's Bailey Scott like supercoach wise?I know he's skillful but does he accumulate possessions?
Surely only drafted because on a team sheet his name reads B.ScottBailey Smith here at the Dogs to find out about Bailey Scott best to head to the Norf Board
I think Williams' form in JLT warrants the bench spot. He had some glimpses of his usual brilliance, and was otherwise very average at best, so I don't think he deserves the starting spot. It would have been between him and Duryea based on JLT form, and I think the more experienced player wins that one every time.No surprises with that team at all. B Williams being named on the bench the only one, really. But he didn't light the world on fire like we thought he would in the JLT.
Naughty up forward until the talls get on top of us.

We won a premiership with three tall defenders: Morris, Hamling and Roberts and a make shift forward in Cordy.
I don’t care how clever your game plan might be - you can win the odd game with a midget defense, of course - but it is unsustainable.
One of Lewis Young or Fletcher Roberts should be playing
If Durea or Suckling were superstar you might go this way - but as the are merely serviceable at best and not in great form - why limit the teams options so much - a minor injury to English and the game will become pure farce. Reid, Sinclair Franklin get on a role and Naughton will be down back and the forward plans will be reliant entirely on Lloyd and Dickson.
It’s bewildering!
True as that is, they at least had two legitimate Ruckman in Grundy and CoxCollingwood sustained a fairly makeshift Defence last season. Their GF day backline had only one player over 190cm. That was Goldsack at 193cm.
It’s all about how they play together and finding form in doing so.
I’m 50/50 on whether it’ll work tomorrow night going small with no Moz or Naughts only because it’s esrly stages. Can it be sustainable long term of its played right ? Absolutely. 2018 pies are proof
And yet Collingwood are set to start Jordan Roughead at full back 200 cm and Darcy Moore at centre2018 pies are proof

I think if T.Boyd was in the team, then at least we would have a back up ruckman. As it is. I believe there are way too many things we need to contain - and I can see a good reason for it.
Wood is a flanker.
We have gone in way too short.
Looks like our game plan will be heavily reliant on winning the clearnances. Yet we pick 1 ruckman (who isnt up to it yet). Whats going to happen when English is having a rest? They'll get 4-6 goals from quick centre clearances because of our lack of height in the backline and lack of a real ruckman
And yet Collingwood are set to start Jordan Roughead at full back 200 cm and Darcy Moore at centre
half back also 200 cm, hardly franking your statement. Callum Sinclair an early favourite for the
Coleman Medal. The ruck contest is a tip of the hat to Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder.
Yeah agreed, I didnt have him in my best 22 round 1 either but i guess we have to back the coaches who saw him all preseason, 21 touches across the 2 halves of footy he played which is pretty reasonable. Id say weve just decided that even if we have to carry him early its in our best interests to get him up to speed asap which im okay with. Guys like Lip, Greene and Lynch probably have a right to feel a little salty though.Compared to Smith most on the list that aren't injured would have a fair case, especially those that have previously played at senior level.
I think he will be a very good player for us and I hope he makes my questioning of his selection look silly tomorrow night. However his form in the JLT was not worthy of a round 1 selection in my opinion, so I would have preferred it if they made him earn his AFL debut with some solid VFL form rather than just handing it to him in round 1.
