Tbh, they’re both sh*t with their disposal. The metres gained stat is honestly one of the most overrated in the AFL because of how it works in reverse when you kick backwards. Shiels in Q1 has 10metres of space behind him probably 15metres ahead of him and proceeds to dump a left foot snap 35m to nothing going inside 50. I am certain he didn’t even assess any options.

I don't disagree Shiels ball use has been putrid all year and you're right about the stat. It has limitations. But a shank 45 metres to a contest is still better than a turnover on the spot.

Shiels time is fast closing, that much is clear. He has always been a role player/supplement to the stars he was surrounded by. Now they've gone and he's in the latter part of his career.

That's why I highlighted the differences between the two - because they should have different expectations.

Unless it’s changed, it’s always been 50 if you have the ball and don’t get the ball back directly to the player with the free kick. Heck they even used to pay it if you threw it back to them with too much elevation. What you CANT do is place the ball on the ground and make them pick it up.

Tonight the effort is almost non existent. They have literally scored all their goals from very weak defensive efforts across the board from us. Rekon the team is going through the motions waiting till the end of the year because the majority of them dont seem to care. The times we actually have put in the required effort we made them look ordinary. Picking and choosing when to give effort is unacceptable.

Lewis just seems to want it on a platter, if he doesn't get the sit he becomes a spectator. Kosi the odd time he gets there does attack the ball.

Everyone will point to Lewis' contested Marks per game. Which is fine, it shows he has the capability to complete. Too often he chooses not to.

Big Boy showed how the youngsters should go every time, not just when it suits you.

Forwards don't read the play. They stand back for the high ball instead of leading. They lead when the high ball is coming in

Reeves looks like a really nice bloke. That’s the problem. He’s tall, has good hands and can kick. We need him to be a pr**k though, not a nice guy.

This is my frustration with him. He has the potential, but he has not learned that at AFL level a forward is rarely going to get it delivered perfectly, or find themselves in a one-on-one. Most often a forward has to work the contest aggressively to assert a position and make the most of ANY opportunity. He is just not doing that.

Im one of the few on here that thinks he can do it, but he is making me look foolish tonite.

I've often derided the Gold Coast for being a souless franchise and they are doing this to us. Embarrassing is an understatement.

I'd suggest not watching then mate. I could wheel a wheelchair through this midfield group, while they just watched me go past, giving each other dirty looks.

They certainly don't work for each other - there is a problem within this group - the hubs proved that. They are not going to come together, so you have to get of rid of them and start again.

We don’t need anymore evidence that shows Mitchell and Worpel can’t play in same side. Take a trade for whoever gets us the higher pick. Worpel hasn’t got enough upside to make it only Mitchell only trade.

But he's rucking against Zach Smith in his second AFL game since 2018

I like to see what Worpel can bring without Mitchell in the side before I make any more calls on him.

And Mitchell may be able to win a shovel from the bottom of a pack, but his speed, field kicking and frequent calling for the ball in sh*t positions (destroying any fast ball moment) has me questioning his real value. So I won't be sad to see him go.

Plus people have to give Worpel a bit of a pass. Guy has only just played 50 games and is still 22. Got faith he is destined for good things for us. But you're bang on about Mitchell. He might be getting as many touches as he did in 2018, but no where near as much impact.

Kosi doesn’t lead

Lewis is not a deep forward (IMO) & Kosi doesn't play as a traditional Key Forward.

Get the ruckman to rest in the Goal Square (mainly BigBoy, to direct others). Lewis at CHF & Kosi as 3rd tall & it'll look very different down there. If we did that, I'd back us in to win still.

We are a team that doesn't really have any cohesion. There's some good in there but without the synergy it's lost in a very mediocre package. Forward line is a bit messy, midfield lacks pressure and execution going forward and the defense is copping a lot of repeat entries. Plenty to improve on and we need to find some more players but until we get every player on the same page personnel isn't the biggest problem that I see.

We lack any sort of cohesion. We train together 6 days a week and live in each other’s pocket but look like we’ve never met.
I said a year or so back that Mitch Lewis won’t finish his career with us. He’s lazy and looks like a bloke that always had it easy in juniors and VFL and expects the same in the AFL. Kozi is pretty average but always has a crack at least.

i think Kozi is certainly worth persisting with. But lewis is completely lost. Just hope we don't cling on to Lewis as long as we have O'brien. I'm so wanting Lewis to do well but he's just not showing anything out there.

If worpel can only deliver if another player is out of the side, that’s on him.

It’s one of the biggest problems with our midfield, no flexibility, no ability to deliver outside their narrow preferred roles.
