the the umps were prob even overall, we couldnt win a holding the ball, and when a hawthorn player looked at us they got a free for holding the ball

What? How about that charity one to your bloke in the goal square with minutes to go?

It wasn't even. There were some absolute howlers of decisions out there. And non decisions.

Any ambulances

Not happy with the treatment the ambulance got this week, i was hoping they would turn on the sirens, followed by bruce getting excited and yelling cleeeeever!

Has Savage done enough to keep his spot? Or do you reckon Smith will come straight back in?

Because damn, Sav was good. That second goal brought a great smile onto my face.

I really, really hope he plays next week. Such a good player.

We could be looking at:

Out: Simpkin (stiff), Ellis
In: Rioli, Puopolo

?

3- Jarryd Roughead
2-Gunstone
1-Brian Lake
Our worst players were probably the 2 ruckmen which is a bit of a worry ,we are lacking in the midfield center clearances which will show when we play the cats in 2 weeks if we don't improve.Mitchell ,Sewell ,Lewis need to lift.

Disagree re our two rucks, especially Bailey. They were up against the best ruck combination in the last 20 years(ever?), and got beaten, but by no means were poor. Bailey around the ground was good, especially in 2nd half - contested marks, and a few nice releasing handpasses. He's still improving, which is great. As a tap ruckman, he is solid, just hard against the Nic Nat and Cox. We are a much better team with him in it.

Hale wasn't so good tonight, but not awful either. Serviceable is what we need from these guys, and they have been.

i think he means it was even by eagle standards, that is to say fewer than their usual huge advantage. They must have felt relieved at the end when the ducking frees came back

Really solid win by the boys tonight. Roughead in particular was superb, easily one of the best games I've seen him play for us. It's awesome to watch him step out of Franklin's shadow.
Hodge & Lake also great, as was Gunston and Bruest.

Smashed in the middle (especailly center clearances) for second week running though, that's a concern. Rioli's absence very telling, and I think we also missed Puopolo's toughness quite a bit tonight.

Great to see Savage play his best game in ages. Simpkin wasn't bad either.

The bad news is that if we get over Brisbane we'll have won 12 on the trot going into the Geelong game which will make me even more nervous!

I was really worried when we were getting smashed in the ruck early but I have to give credit to Hale and big Max because I thought they worked their arses off to lift both their ruck work but also their pressure acts at the stoppages. Cox and NikNat are outstanding ruck men and our boys can hold their heads high. One of the reasons we lifted after qtr time.

Why is that ,i do think our inside mids look a bit slow ,what was the center clearance count?

Our inside mids are a bit slow - rule of life - all inside mids are somewhat slowish - it's part of the job that when you are in a pinball game of bodies that you need a little bulk to get by and that costs speed.

It was your statement that our rucks were our 2 worst on ground that had me scratching my head. I have NFI what you are on about there - perhaps you need to watch the replay.

I noticed a new rule tonight. You're allowed to jump into brown and gold backs, but you get pinged if the player is wearing blue and gold. Nitnat can do what he likes, but you are not allowed to touch him.
I noticed this too, though that's no big achievement as it was pretty hard to miss. Natanui just charges at whoever has the ball in the most reckless manner knowing he won't get a free paid against him. Saw some very very clumsy efforts of his tonight. Meanwhile he gets frees in the ruck for the slightest contact.

If the umpires loved Buddy as much as Nic Nat Franklin would be getting minimum 10 shots on goal a game. Minimum.

Overall it was a good team performance but if there was one area where they had the wood on us ,it seemed to be in the center ,Hale really had no influence ,Bailey did alright in the 2nd 1/2 but only because he limited Nats influence unlike the first 2 quarters ,Mitch ,Sewell and Lewis need to do better we didn't seem to win many out of there.

For the first time this year, I saw a team that convinced me they could seriously go on and win this year's premiership. Sterling stuff. The Weagles threw everything they had at us and we just grinned and grounded them into the turf. Metaphorically speaking. A certain Weagle tried literally doing the same to one of ours but I won't go into that... he'll be looked after on Monday.

Probably an epic encounter to watch for neutral supporters, but as a Hawk all I saw was guts, determination and effort - very fitting for the Kokoda game. Hodge continues to lift himself to immortal status and Roughie... well geez, mvp in the comp right now? Must be right up there if he's on the bench for these half-year All-Australian teams. :p Gunners - most exciting young player in the comp! Except maybe for Breust. And maybe Hill. Savage looks alright too, doesn't he? And most importantly, Ellis played over a quarter of AFL footy and survived!! Looking good, X-man. :):thumbsu:

Finally, who was that young star in the fifth quarter kicking the footy lace out to Luke Hodge? Can we sign up Matthew Clarkson under the father-son rule if his dad has coached us for over 100 games? ;) Might be a nice pick-up in a few years time.

Very exciting time, guys. I keep thinking I've been transported back into the 80s. Especially tonight. High quality game with some good hard footy in there as well. Can't ask for much more with a win like that!
