ESSENDON

A frustrating couple of weeks prior to the bye saw the Bombers throw away potential victories with what seemed like hundreds of wasted chances.
We managed to match Carlton around the ground, and arguably had the ascendancy for long periods, but were ultimately let down by disgustingly inaccurate kicking inside 50 and even worse kicking for goal.
Tom De Koning was well beaten in the hit-outs by Todd Goldstein, but his around the ground work proved to be a huge difference.
Alarm bells were ringing when the Blueshite registered 3 goals before we got a single one, and whilst we were matching it with them, that scoreboard difference never really looked to be in threat.
Despite us utterly dominating the third term, we only managed to kick 3.6 compared to the Blues 1.1, and when they kicked the first four goals in the final term, that was all she wrote.
**** Carlton.

WEST COAST

Another case of shitty goalkicking costing a team the game, but we should also mention the absolutely bizarre umpiring in the final minutes that sealed it. My god, umpiring is trash this season.
The Eagles had a huge run of momentum in the final term after a run of six unanswered goals which brought the home crowd to life.
That being said, Norf outplayed the Eagles all game despite the controversial ending, and West Coast will be ruing the chance they had to get another strong win at home.
The holes left by Tim Kelly and Harley Reid are glaring, and frustration through the midfield resulted in free kicks being given away constantly.

We're almost full strength, against a building Eagles side playing away from home, missing their best two midfielders. Should be no excuse here. Time to get back on the winning train before some seriously tough fixtures coming up.

Essendon by 44.

tim kelly being an out is very important. he took it to another level last time we played them and nearly got them over the line.

will be interesting to see how their forward line goes, though

Big ask of Draper after a long layoff. 2MP is not a ruck and shouldn’t be. Hopefully Caddy will have a bit of space to work in and show his capabilities.
Very big ask. Flynn is no star but he’s a big unit and abit of a brute. L

Late change. Caddy IN.

Goldy managed.

Pretty happy Caddy is in.

But managing Goldy off a bye when he was pretty clearly cooked heading into the bye is another reminder that we don't need to run these guys into the absolute ground.
Rest them before the cumulative fatigue builds up.
It's been the argument to give Hep a rest at some stage, since they see him as important best 22, make sure he is in the best shape he can be by end of the year.

It’s funny — this was the team I was hoping we go with but also the riskiest given Draper first game back. I think we really utilise 2MP’s ruck work in the first half and ease big Sammy back in.
