I think this week we'll see Lewis and Fergus along with either DGB or Kosi. I reckon one of them will come in for Reeves, who needs to get some form.

Butler out for Brockman is another probability, after two pretty anonymous weeks. Scrimshaw and Frost would be nervous, based on the fact they were the most experienced heads in a backline that had a leadership vacuum once again. Impey back in for Morrison, CJ could be the sub. Mackenzie will be in the mix as always, Serong and O'Sullivan have something to offer too.

Wouldn't be surprised to see 4 or 5 changes after two horrid weeks.

Would have thought Hardwick was a more experienced back than Scrimshaw, in both age and games played.

The players who should go out are Maginness Butler Reeves Frost.
Impey if fit for Maginness
Long (for a body of work) for maginness if impey not fit otherwise sub
Brockman for butler
Kosi for Reeves (2nd forward plays deep and chops out in ruck)
DGB for Frost or Greene (if they want to keep him forward)
CJ needs another hit out at Box Hill. Leave ramsden in 2s all year add another pre season then target half a season in the 1s
Ryan a few more weeks before having a look in the last month at senior level
Stephens and Hustwaite next in
I’m glad someone has mentioned Hustwaite. He’s been consistently good at Box Hill as has Long. I’d like to at least one of these boys at the expense of a ruckman. Impey, Brockman and CJ likely to come in at the expense of Maginess, Butler and Frost.

Think we need to give Meek a chance to ruck one out this weekend as the Reeves/Meek combo just isn't working and Meek has a more rounded game at the moment. Reeves can work on building a more developed game in the VFL for a couple of weeks.

Also then we can get Kossy/Ramsden in to see how they go with the second ruck/key forward role ala David Hale.

Don't know if they can pull it off but we would hardly be worse off than we have been rolling out with Reeves/Meek combo (basically we have been playing one man short).

OUT: Meek, Butler, Frost, Greene, Morrison
IN: Serong, Impey, Brockman, Mackenzie, Jiath (sub)

Ready to play around with our KP stocks. Serong and DGB both in.
Would like to see one of Reeves or Meek as a solo ruck, with extra run on the ground.
Greene and Morrison unlucky.

FB: Weddle - Blanck - Hardwick
HB: Impey - Serong - Scrimshaw

MID: Reeves - Worpel - Nash
MID: Day - Newcombe - Amon

HF: Moore - DGB - Wingard
FF: Breust - Lewis - Brockman

INT: Ward - Mackenzie - Mitchell - Morrison
SUB: Jiath

I wouldn't be playing CJ as a sub. Either he needs a full game at BHH to get his fitness fully up, or he comes in. Not sure that playing him as the sub helps.

Can’t agree on Greene being omitted. Had the most shots on goal and could have easily had 4 goals if accurate early.

Feel like chad didn't do a lot wrong, think Butler needs to stay for defensive pressure, would like to see DGB forward or back.

Brockman and Impey in for whoever doesn't have a matchup, Hustwaite for a debut if he's looking solid at Box Hill and shading Long on that front.

5 Changes

Impey - Maginness
DGB - Reeves. no brainer for the week, we can't continue with two rucks.
Jiath - Frost.
Brockman - Butler ( Rotation) Wingard was serviceable, Butler gets a rest.
Hustwaite - (Rotation) Morrison/C-Mac/Moore/Nash (sub)

Those wanting a ruck dropped, feel you’ll be disappointed, but we need them targeted more up forward.

Keep playing the kids, it’s all about them learning

It's a tough one regarding the rucks I have watched them live a few times this year now. They just have no game sense how to lead or when to run into the open space and become that viable option. They are often standing still hand up in the air asking for the ball, get pushed under the ball far to easy or a stray kick from the midfield will have them out of position. The good rucks around the competition will find that open space and link up in the field off play its not always about taking that pack mark.

I think they need to learn that craft more at a VFL level, right not they are uncompetitive we need ours rucks to be combative with a young midfield!

The play these last two weeks was as lacklustre and disjointed as against Essendon, Sydney and Geelong in the beginning of the year. The whole side crumbles when the pressure comes. So my question is: did we dig ourselves out of that early hole or did sides look past us and let the boys play too freely and without pressure? We have certainly been out worked and out pressured these last two weeks, so if sides were looking past us then they have remembered our Achilles heel.

I can’t figure out who to drop because I can’t tell if individuals are dropping their assignments or if the whole side is lost at the moment.

even the very best athletes fluctuate in form. this variance is exacerbated in a younger side. the games where we've outplayed the opposition we have needed many of our players to play like the best players in the comp. Sicily played perhaps the best defensive game I've ever seen vs Saint Kilda, Newcombe's 3rd qtr vs Brisbane was one of the highest-rated on record, Brockman was the best-performing small fwd one of those rounds and so on. But anything less than "top 3 in your position" performances from some of our top players and the reality is we are just not as good as most teams right now.

our ladder position accurately reflects where we are as a side at the minute (which is actually better than where most pundits and even some fans thought we'd be). glimpses of the good but very far from the finished product – both individually and as a team working together. taking wins off teams like Brisbane and St Kilda is nice and shows at our best we can match it with anyone. but 1% less than our best and we are nowhere near it.

i think the coaches will be more looking at areas we can improve while also highlighting the aspects we (as a team and individuals) are doing well. i am sure Sam will continue to tinker with different structures, particularly with KPP selection, to see what suits our emerging gamestyle the best, as we are still yet to find it

What I have noticed this year is that we tend to play better when we field a more “orthodox” structure (ie two key forwards instead of one key forward plus 5 medium forwards, adding Blank as a key back to let Sicily roam across HBF, etc).

As such I think we need to go to a more orthodox ruck combo of one standalone ruck (either Meek or Reeves depending on form) and a key forward/ruck to act as a chop out (Kossy/Ramsden).

Not many teams are running with our current ruck structure. Maybe Collingwood with Cameron and Cox but Cox is actually a half decent forward surprisingly enough. Even the Dees are struggling to fit both Gawn and Grundy in the same team and they are much more rounded players than Reeves and Meek.
