DGB and even Ryan are instant upgrades on Kosi .

Ryan is 25 and never played a game of senior AFL football.

At AFL level, Kosi averages over a goal a game. 51 from 44 is actually a reasonable return.

I know Kosi has his deficiencies and is a whipping boy of sorts around here, but if Ryan is an 'instant upgrade' then I'd argue we've struck gold on the same level we did with Newcombe, which might be dreamland stuff.

I hope it's true, but you can't make that call yet.

Saw them both in the same game on the weekend. Ryan is far more active than losi, more vocal. Leap is about even, and he's just as reliable at goal (always a 50/50 chance at best).
Not a huge upgrade, but still an upgrade

Judgement will be reserved until he has consistent, exposed form in the senior side.

That's a bit of a stretch. Newcombe is one of the best young mids in the game, Kosi isn't so much.

Wouldn't go so far as to call him an instant upgrade yet but he doesn't have to be Newcombe good to be an upgrade on Kosi.

Ryan currently sitting at 1.9 since joining Box Hill. He moves well and got clear of his opponent. He is very slight of build, which is why he has the name Sticks.

Think he needs a few more weeks at Box Hill, hitting the scoreboard before given a chance at senior level. He does look like he has a fair bit of upside.

There must be some serious changes after the dross from the last two weeks. Team needs a shake as we have some out of form players. For mine:

Outs: Reeves or Meek, Butler, Frost, Finn (Morrison if Impey is fit)
Ins: DGB, Ramsden, Brocky, Long, Impey (if fit)

Dimma Blanck Mitchell
Weddle DGB Scrim
Day Newk Amon
Moore Lewis Wingard
Brocky Ramsden Bruest
Reeves/Meek Nash Ward
Worpel Greene Morrison/Impey CMac
Sub: Long

Ideally I’d like DGB forward but with Sicily out we need him back there. Frost has been poor the past two weeks and Denver has earned a recall.

Long to sub in for Ramsden or the other ruck in the third quarter. His versatility is a huge plus.

Feels like DGB (as a forward), Ryan and Serong are probably a few weeks away from being ready for promotion (assuming current BH form continues).

But with the afl teams recent form and only 8 games left plus a glut of players who we likely want to see at afl level we may be a bit more aggressive at selection.

Based on BH review a few players putting hands up.

Don’t mind idea of Kosi playing 2nd ruck. He struggled in role last year but might be the best role for him. He doesn’t lack competitiveness and can crash a pack. The lack of footy iq is less an issue for a ruck (and has more forward craft then reeves/meek). Then rotate Ryan/DGB/Ramma through 2nd forward role over rest of season.

Hopefully serong keeps up form as when Sicily is back swapping frost for serong and freeing up weddle appears a good option (on paper).
Good point. I can see him playing a David Hale type role.

Sick of flogging a dead horse with Kosi, has had his chances.Nothing to lose by playing Ryan, let’s see what he can do. The bloke has some tricks that Kosi will never have.

It should be plain to Sam that Reeves & Meek pairing isn't effective, whilst neither can take a mark
in the F50 and kick goals. We are just playing one short for the day currently.
So they had 61 hit outs for a total of 12 to advantage.....

Been saying that for weeks, yet they keep persisting with it, hopefully they have woken up and realise it's a bust

Kosi is 22 (23 soon) and has strengths you can't teach. I think we'd be remiss to cut him loose at this point, he's the perfect key forward depth for a growing team. I'd argue he's shown enough to warrant a bit of time to work on his goal-kicking and leading structure. I'd really rather see him and one ruck swapping out as the deepest forward and playing Mitch Lewis as a CHF than the two talls deep we seem to persist with. He's also not someone I can see us playing with Greene and Winggard in the team, a forwardline with those three, Bruesty, a resting ruck, and Mitch Lewis is Swiss cheese.

Yep, one of his behinds was touched off the boot. haven't seen Kosi do that yet.
I am loving the fact that Ryan has already generated 10 shots at goal in 2 games at VFL standard.

I am hoping this converts to a better ratio to get some nerves out of his system before bringing him in.

I am fine for Kosi to be depth and to get a 1 yr extn but for the next few games, there are others ahead of him. If they fail in their audition, Kosi can get another go if he performs at BH in whatever role he takes on next. He can continue as Fwd or Fwd/Ruck or trial for KPD. I am sure Sam wants him to trial for KPD but Kosi needs to walk through that door first.

Can't see Kosi being delisted - If another club comes calling different story, I think we would let him go for a third round pick

Whilst I'm optimistic about DGB as a forward, I think he comes in as a 3rd tall for now if anything.

We clearly need to recruit another kpf or two in any case, so whoever we have in the team now is really just keeping the seat warm. So I'd prefer to play Kosi now because he at least has enough physicality to take a good opponent and free up Lewis.

Yeah I was a Box Hill as well and I have to agree with you. Ryan is an upgrade on Kosi.

My tip for this week is giants by 39 points. I think we will got smashed because the obvious point is we don’t have Sicily. I think our forward will also struggle to score and our mid is going up against a strong mid aswell who I think will get the better of us. Our defence is gonna struggle to much to stop their talls up forward and Toby Greene

So, apart from a porous defence, a non-scoring forward line and a weak midfield what did the Romans ever do for us?

I'd hold fire on the comparisons. Plenty of people were calling Fergus an upgrade on Kosi too. Ryan's never played an AFL game, and so far all he's done at VFL level is make Kosi look like a sharpshooter. I watched the Port Melb game too, and I agree with the coach: he could've had a solid day, but he didn't.

I think this week we'll see Lewis and Fergus along with either DGB or Kosi. I reckon one of them will come in for Reeves, who needs to get some form.

Butler out for Brockman is another probability, after two pretty anonymous weeks. Scrimshaw and Frost would be nervous, based on the fact they were the most experienced heads in a backline that had a leadership vacuum once again. Impey back in for Morrison, CJ could be the sub. Mackenzie will be in the mix as always, Serong and O'Sullivan have something to offer too.

Wouldn't be surprised to see 4 or 5 changes after two horrid weeks.

man I must have been watching a different Kosi to some on here. He is the first bloke I would delist of this list. I reckon Sam is in same boat, there were times last year and this year when Lewis was out, we had no other Key Fwd and he still couldn’t bring it upon himself to pick him.

The players who should go out are Maginness Butler Reeves Frost.
Impey if fit for Maginness
Long (for a body of work) for maginness if impey not fit otherwise sub
Brockman for butler
Kosi for Reeves (2nd forward plays deep and chops out in ruck)
DGB for Frost or Greene (if they want to keep him forward)
CJ needs another hit out at Box Hill. Leave ramsden in 2s all year add another pre season then target half a season in the 1s
Ryan a few more weeks before having a look in the last month at senior level
Stephens and Hustwaite next in
