It’s not credits talk when we’ve got about 3.5 AFL standard mids, who have had mixed availability throughout the year. He hasn’t been bad enough to get dropped, the microscope he gets put under (even last year when he was comfortably our best) has always fascinated me.

He’s not anywhere near his best, but he’s been passable. Problem is given the trade and focus on him, passable isn’t good enough.

I've got no problems with Kelly, he has been a bit shit this year compared to previous seasons but has more than held up his end of the bargain since coming over.

I do think though that for some players, passable actually isn't good enough. If you are a senior player and on the big bucks it's your job to earn your pay check. Too many of our guys haven't really taken that obligation too seriously in recent years. [again not Kelly, until maybe this year]

Ginbey finding a bit more of the footy is a positive even if playing a different role. The more these young kids have ball in hand the more they can build confidence about how and when to use it.

Hope he carries on in the second half.

Ooohh the old schrodingers coaching scenario...I like it
It was specifically talked about earlier in the week.

These changes would have been discussed from as early as pre-season and forever evolving depending on outcomes throughout the season.

The time was right for a coaching change, but there's nothing revolutionary in what's being done at the tail end of a wooden spoon contender's season in moving players around and playing some who are out of contract to see what they have.

Hunts moving a lot better now his foot/toe is better
Has always looked better off half back too, shoehorning as a wing was a short term solution to a weird problem in our list, but he’s a dashing HBF, not a wing.

Doing incredibly well from a defensive standpoint to be less than two kicks down when the team is being slaughtered in the midfield and ruck.

-12 contested possessions
-20 clearances
-13 inside 50s

Centre clearances are 11-1. Considering J.Schofield was previously head of stoppages, you'd hope his influence would beneficial to that area, but it remains to be seen today.

Tackles inside forward 50 are currently 14-0 to the Lions favour - would be nice to see the team make some stick during the second half.

Ginbeys stopped Rainer from having any influence
Tom Cole been poor
Witherden same they don't offer any run of half back
Hough amazing job so far
Would love if we had a rebounding HBF.

Witho, Rotham and Cole don't really fit the bill. Duggan does it a bit between also playing defensive mid and wing as well.

Hunt is built for it, Jones the other option as well. Need a younger option to come through and make the spot their own.

13-33 clearances
1-11 centre clearances

A blessing to be down 10 on the balance of those numbers.
Concerning for the 2nd half, the defence will crack under the weight of constant entries.

Can’t be that hard to get a centre clearance. They are clean below their knees and we double grab everything in there
Neale giving a masterclass in this, but then he is probably the best groundball winner in the league. Wouldn’t kill us to get a bit more physical with him

Yes I think we need to look at both a new stoppage and midfield coach in the offseason.

Schofield and Shuey can only work with what they have, but the level of noncompetitive we have been in these areas over the year is pretty bad. In a bad year, its particularly glaring.

Whilst I don't disagree, there is no guarantee had Simpson continued, we would have given other players a consistent chance for the rest of the season, which is what people are now hoping to see.
