I have to admit it is constantly baffling me that McGinnity is getting picked every week when he is clearly struggling for form. If we were back in 2010 and undertaking the mentality of getting games into players I could understand, but we are fighting for a top four spot. Puzzling decision by the selectors to say the least.

When McGinnity finally does have a good game, the official WCE site will probably put out one of their propaganda pieces parroting 'it was only a matter of time for McGinnity, he's been doing all that's asked of him, blah, blah, blah,' and try to make out that one good game makes up for the many useless games that he's played this season, all while trying to justify the MC's decisions.

Baffles me that McGinnity is getting a game ahead of Brennan etal. so I can only conclude that the match committee are happy that McGinnity is fulfilling the role that they are asking him to play whatever that is

Very interesting decision to leave Brennan out.

What I don't get is why did the club not name him as an 'out' yesterday? No injury is mentioned. Maybe he just really annoyed someone between 4.25pm yesterday and 3pm today.

He may get a reprieve if Butler doesn't get up, although maybe Weedon's been marked for that opportunity.

Seriously why are people surprised by brennan. he gets very little of the ball as a running half back. Schofield is the 3rd tall. Dont get me wrong, I dont think Brennan has been bad, but he hasnt been a standout either. Very much a fringe player.

Yes Brennan has done some nice things, but as far as defending goes in the last couple of weeks he been average. Leaked a fair few goals, iirc, and lacks a bit of disposal composure. McGinnity survives (make of that what you will) & Hill comes back, so McGinnity won't (and shouldn't) be playing fwd this wk (probably shouldn't have in the first place) and should be the sub.

Stevenson unlucky not to be in the 25 with his sustained form. And what's happening with Smith?

you do realise they arent competing for same spot, right?

For this weekend, yes fair enough. But McGinnity is not working a midfied tagger or as a defensive forward. Ginna played great last year in the backline. Just seems like McGinnity is getting put in despite the fact he doesn't quite have a role to play at the minute.

Both Selwoods are better taggers, Hill is a better defensive forward, Brennan is playing better in defence right now. Just seems strange.

The problem is no one has a clue what Mcginnity spot is, if he is not sub he has been useless, does not give us run, has not been close checking when tagging or defending, his attack on the ball has been okay but tends to give away frees.
,
One of the problems he has is an inabilty to read the play, bye starts off with his player,at acstoppage and then loses them in transit, that's okay if he wins the ball or has a positive effect on the contest but this year he hasn't. A player with the lack of skill he has needs to be winning heaps of contested ball or laying double figure tackles and he is not. I can't understand the MC, send him back to the wafl, he is not in our best 22 this year.

Brennan impact on the game as been more than McGinnity who's defensive pressure has gone missing from where it was last year.

Also Brennan is not a third tall he is a running half back, who is getting better with every game played, if you cant see him developing nicely at afl level your a poor judge of players.

Yeah he (McGinnity) was drafted at least in some part for the tagging job on Cotching in the carnival yet we regularly have players get high numbers against us and he's not used on them.

I was more understanding when he was still wearing a glove to help with having a broken hand, but I think that's all healed now but his form hasn't changed.

Plus side is Shep is still there.

Well I must be a poor judge of players because there is no way known that Brennan has been getting better with every game he has played. Brennan was very solid when he first started in the side but he has leaked significantly more goals when down back in recent weeks and been ineffective when thrown forward (Sydney game). I am unsurprised that Brennan has been omitted.

As for the McGinnity thing - yeah not sure, I agree with most that he has been in poor form and I'm unsure as to what his role in the side is at the moment. After having such an impressive 2011 appears to have gone backwards quite significantly in 2012.

Everyone would love him to play but who do you take out? Behind Waters/Hurn/Schofield/Butler/Selwood/Brennan/Sheppard on the back flanks and behind Gaff/Rosa/Embley on the wings. No room for him at the minute.

I'd say anyone of Butler, Selwood, Brennan, Rosa or McGinnity

i am pretty sure i said he hasnt been bad. but at same time he hasnt been outstanding. he has very much been encouraging. but he has to displace someone. and clearly match committee think he hasnt done that yet. unless you think your judgment is better than theirs?

i agree everything with regard to mcginnity being dropped. he is shite. but they dont compete for same spot henceforth one cant be dropped for other.

Surely once Embley is back next week McGinnity is gone? One hopes it is not Sheppard making way for Embers.

I for one am satisfied with the changes this week (rarely happens so I'll enjoy it).

Our MC are hardly reactionary so the 4 or so changes expected on these boards was never a possibility. A loss to GWS/GC might bring about several omissions, but not much else.

As for the McGinnity/Brennan fanfare, we know for certain that McGinnity can play a solid defensive role all over the ground and provide a hard edge to the side which will be useful come the pressure of finals. This must be the reason for his overdue stay in the 22. But I don't understand why he's being played out of position. Perhaps the MC are expecting his form to develop leading into the finals, if not I'd expect him to be replaced by Embley within 2/3 weeks. If this doesn't happen (assuming his form doesn't lift) then we can hate on the MC til the cows come home.

It's also about time Brennan's had a rest. He's seriously lacking defensively atm (and also in the poise department) but the stint at the highest levels will no doubt have done wonders for his development. Looking forward to seeing him in the 22 in a year or 2, but for now we should let him develop in the WAFL. I wouldn't be confident having him in our back 6 come finals. But idk why we couldn't have named Stevenson on the extended bench. Seeing Weedon named ahead of him couldn't have been good for his confidence. Perhaps we're more concerned about Weedons confidence.

The Newman ommission speaks for itself.

And our finals side is finally starting to take shape. With Embley back playing with the Swans, we should see him round round 21 at the expense of a McGinnity/Hams/Sheppard. Hopefully Kennedy can string a few together before finals but unlikely.
