Bailey doesn't pair well against the witts/obrien types but competes well with the gawn/jackson/mcinerey players so I think the ruck changes throughout the year will be a horses for courses sort of thing.

Petrol is a disappointing choice, games into johnston/allan/gross/grego etc would've been better. Petrol won't move the dial at all and these games would be of so much value to the young kids.

I don't hate only have a FF and a CHF, I think the idea of 3 tall fwd lines is a bit over rated.

I much prefer Williams in this team rucking on his own compared to when he's in it sharing ruck duties with someone and playing FWD. Hopefully he channels some of that Bailey 2023 energy.

Brisbane is definitely elite in the middle. I'm clinging to the idea that we can atleast put up a better fight as Big O is no where near the tap ruckman Witts is and Brisbane mids are far less brutal at the coal face than Gold Coasts inside mids, who had a bit of late 2023 Carlton about them with their brute force if you ask me.

The elephant in the room is that our midfield is nothing without Yeo (injured) and Shuey (who retired at the end of 2023) setting the standard. Harley Reid feeds off Yeo's intensity. The hope is that he and the other young mids will learn from Baker and Graham who have been there done that but so far only one week in to their time at the club.

We recruited Baker and Graham who are 27, Duggan is 28, Kelly 30, Hunt 29. Flynn hasn't played a lot of footy but is 27 and a big body. We have plenty of experienced players who soak up midfield minutes so it's not like our centre bounce combo is Reid, Hewett, Ginbey and a young ruck. If we're going to get destroyed in the middle playing guys like Kelly and Duggan then you may as well move those guys to the flanks and give the young mids more time.

Sure. I have no expectations that our midfield wins on the weekend. Just not put up historically bad numbers like they did on the weekend.

Hoping we ramp up Hewetts midfield minutes as the year goes on, he was doing 50-60% CBAs at the end of his first season.
He has a more mature body now, with more muscle, etc

Surely he can be around that 50% CBAs by a month or so from now and just do that every week for the rest of the year, with maybe the odd game with reduced mid minutes?
Would take some of the pressure off Reid to be that offensive mid for us

I think Elijah looked much better than other up and around the ball, and that looked like the set up McQualter went to more often in the 2nd half last week.

I'd hope we see Elijah up around that 50-60% CBA he was averaging in late 2023.
