Thing about Flynn is, yes he got obliterated in the hitouts (Bailey would've been too), but he is so slow he can't pressure the opposition, let alone win some ground balls to at least make things harder for the other team. He's basically a statue
This is so true. He is so static and barely moves.

Hard to argue for Flynn after last week. Bailey is terrible but the bar is extremely low for him now.

My feelings on Ryan's will depend largely on who's out. I don't think he adds much to the side when the ball is up the other end of the ground.

I love the Petrol inclusion #supersub

Good idea to give Allan another week. Hopefully he tears it up and gets a run next week.

Fivey will be happy hehe.

Gee whiz, imagine being so shit you get punted after 1 game for Bailey Williams.

To be fair, Kelly, Reid, Long, Cripps and Hunt all lost their positions last week just as badly as Flynn did. I'm somewhat surprised with McQualter's "ruthlessness" here, if it can be called that. I don't hate it, but it's a bit odd.

Either way, it's a change from last weeks team that isn't forced, so that's a good thing IMO.

I wouldve preferred Flynn to get 1 more, tbh 2 more because he'd get to play against Jackson next week and maybe even have a chance to win the hitouts.
BW in is fine, I dont think theyre that far apart anyway.

Ryan in for Waterman
BW in for Flynn
Petch in for Hutchinson

Hopefully Petch is the sub, but I suspect itll be Brockman.

Geez it's uninspiring to lose first up by 87 and your ins are Petruccelle and Bailey Williams.

Brisbane's midfield is elite. I hope we give the young guys plenty if centre square minutes.
Have to wait for Chesser to finish training in the hyperbolic time chamber before we get any serious ins.

Holistically...

Losing your ruck position to Bailey Williams (who any idiot can see isn't a good ruckman)of all people after one game really is damning. I was surprised the pre season build up had them "neck and neck" etc etc for so long, i thought Flynn would be the clear obvious preferred option.

Now it makes sense. Not only did he get flogged by both Xerri and Witts, he's also now been punted.

Last year ruined by injury/form, this year already behind Bailey before round 2...... Deary me, got another whole year left to run on his contract as well.

Brisbane is definitely elite in the middle. I'm clinging to the idea that we can atleast put up a better fight as Big O is no where near the tap ruckman Witts is and Brisbane mids are far less brutal at the coal face than Gold Coasts inside mids, who had a bit of late 2023 Carlton about them with their brute force if you ask me.

The main issue apart from losing the hitouts that Flynn had was he had absolutely zero impact around the ground (marks or linking up) in addition to having no ground game impact at the stoppages after the tap.

Bailey is a rubbish tap ruck but at least he'll get clearances and pressure the ball carrier at stoppage.
Our mid setup is beyond rubbish. we have ZERO pure inside mids.

Kelly is a outside mid, Harley is the closest we have to a inside mid but is more the receiving/high impact type rather than someone doing the dirty work. Hewett is more a HF with rotations at mid stoppages, Duggan is not a mid at all.

Hall isn't getting AFL games and neither is Davies right now.

Until we get some actual Mids playing Bailey over Flynn might actually be the best call.

Also Yeo but he's Injured so who knows when he'll be back and is on borrowed time anyway.

The most damning thing about both Pre-season and R1 is Archer looked so much better competing in the ruck against both Xerri and Witts.

Would actually consider doing the opposite. With J.Waterman out, H.Andrews is probably more than capable of out-running West Coast's marking options in attack. Inviting him to roam up the ground taking intercept marks would make it near-impossible to move possession effectively beyond the centre square.

In order to nullify him as much as possible, a player should be sacrificing their own game to drag him [H.Andrews] to the goalsquare at every opportunity.

B.Frampton had just 2 disposals in the 2023 Grand Final, but his efforts in tempering H.Andrew's influence were decisive to it's outcome.
Andrews chasing is not the same Andrews who punches everything coming near him in the air.Running him round doesn’t mean dragging him up the ground.Just keep him moving not sitting in the hole waiting for the “bomb”.
Mind you there’s not much point in say Waterman running him around if the ball doesn’t come down there.

Last time we played them, round 18 at Optus. We lost by 13 points.

Mcinerney - 43HO's, 16D, 16 contested, 2M, 2 tackles, 9 clearances, 6 score involvements

Bailey - 33HO's, 10D, 4 contested, 4M, 2 tackles, 1 clearances, 6 score involvements.

Decent from Williams. Beaten up in some areas, particularly contested ball and clearances, but respectable in others.

Yeah least Bailey can win a centre bounce hit out once in a while with his leap, barely saw Flynn lift a knee at the centre bounce last week, just tried to tussle and go body on body with a much bigger stronger man.
