We were down to 17 fit players, Burton couldn't run and was plonked in the goal square. The umpires forgot we were out there in the last quarter except to pay frees against us.

We didn't switch off so much as have the tank emptied by injury and umpiring. Also picking a tall to support Sweet in ruck wouldn't hurt.

Enjoy the win. Was more training than anything but gets us going and into the season.

No need to really do player run downs as most played well.

I enjoyed Rioli getting a run a centre bounces.

The overlap transition game plan looks good and has serious potential but we are going to see some horrid defeats to pressure teams, whilst we learn the game and became able to deal with pressure.

So we have Boak, DBJ, Wines - all over 200 games. Then a handful north of 100 games.
We expect a lot of Luko, Mitch, Lord, Berry, Richards, but they don’t have 250 games between them. Our backline of Burgoyne, Jones, Bergmann, Alir, Evans, Sinn, Ratuogolea and BZT has one 100 gamer and several under 50 games. No excuses but we are a bloody young, inexperienced team. List vs list, we’re about a year or two ahead of Richmond, west coast and North.

It’s also clear we are moving away from the forward fifty game to a transition game. It’s what we’ve all been screaming for.

We’re not big or fit enough. We have some big holes. We’re learning a newish game plan and are rebuilding. It’s disappointing we don’t have our first rounder likely a top ten pick and lost Houston for diddly squat.

It’s gonna be a roller coaster. We’ll need our midfield and guns to carry us. We won’t make finals. So enjoy the win. Enjoy the ride.

Great call. What was that dribble of umpiring? Heard the slap of JHF getting hit high from out the back and nothing!

We beat a bottom 4 side just like the crows have in their first 2 games it won't be for a few more rounds until you see how sides are really fairing I think we win our next 2 then the big test when poo and wee come to town for Gather Round

Quite a few of the fringe players had their best AFL games. Liked what I saw from Sinn, he looked explosive and strong. Mead, Burgoyne, Joe Richards and Logan Evans also set a new standard for themselves. Obviously Moraes, too.

Quite comfortable with tapering in the last quarter, Essendon had to go hard till the end to salvage pride today and we may have a small advantage.
