Meek isn't going out, he's listed on the field.
I said it last week but this isn't how it works, its a general guide but players listed on the field can definitely be out

Meek will be out IMO

Unless we think we need him to tackle a Hayes and Marshall combo? Marshall and Ryder, maybe but Hayes and Marshall? surely not

EDIT: its gonna piss down, no way Meek plays if Darcy does

An even worse one for me was the one in the third quarter when we were under the pump and really needed to change the momentum, he took the ball on the wing, could have given off a handball but did some stupid weak shimmy to try and lose his man, got tackled and flopped and pinged for HTB.
That was terrible from a supposed leader
Had a look. Pretty harsh call, imo. The handball option was across the face of a wall of Crows players. Dangerous. No other options in front of him. The "shimmy" was a turn to look for an option up the ground, but the Adelaide player coming up behind him had by then closed the space and wrapped him up. (Fun fact: at least three infringements against Logue go uncalled in the space of 5 seconds during tussle that results from the kick in to Adelaide's F50)

For those following the debate, here's my review of the third quarter:

With the ball spending 95% of the time in Adelaide’s forward half, Walters spent most of third quarter guarding space and directing traffic from the corridor, or on the fat side.

1. Some hard running forward side of centre square to lay a tackle. No one else on the three Crows players in the vicinity, and the ball got out.

2. The htb incident. On the bench for a few mins after this, when the ball actually makes it into Freo F50 for the first time in about 10 minutes (leading to turnover from free kick).

3. Handball receive on wing from Ryan as Walters comes off the bench, and immediately (no hesitation, 3 steps) threads the needle with a 40m pass inside 50 to Lobb (kick from 50m ends in a behind)

4. Ran the corridor during Switta’s run on the wing, which ended in Freddy’s smothered shot on goal from the pocket (NB: Freddy had both Schultz and Walters clear as hand pass options on the inside).

5. Pushed up for a throw in, ran and went to ground after a no-hope attempt to smother a kick down the line

6. Pushed up as forward-side outlet at a stoppage at the top of the D50. Ball went the other way, leading to the throw call against Meek (”And they’ve called it a throw! Everything going the Crows way”)

7. From the Brayshaw free kick at the centre bounce, ball gets to Mundy who kicks inside 50 to Walters, being shadowed by Dawson (192cm!). Not Mundy’s best I50, way too high. But Dawson spoils rather than marks and Tucker pounces on the loose ball to kick a behind. Walters plays his part defending the kick in before the ball is switched and he’s left on the fat side.

8. A few stoppages saw Walters pushing up to receive out the front, but the ball invariably went the other way (side note: Meek had a mare in the 3rd). Gets to touch the ball on the centre wing as it crosses the boundary following a wayward kick from Brodie

9. 40 seconds left. Long kick inside 50 from Brayshaw, over Walters' head, but he gets front of the marking contest ready to crumb, but it was Schultz v. Dawson. No chance.

End of quarter.

Going to ground count: 1. Playing for frees count: 0.

Facts > feels. Nice work.

Is there another 30+ small fwd that is performing well in the AFL ?

Luke Breust maybe but he’s been injured and being a bit stronger than Sonny maybe doesn’t rely on zippyness to the same extent

Instructive that there are hardly any veteran small fwds even getting games anywhere else I think

Might be a case of move Sonny up onto the wing or something or he’s done

Surprised Blakely isn't named in the extended team, could use him in the guts with the loss of Mundy.
OK, this year has gone down hill quickly.

Someone suggest Blakely in, and I think yeah, good idea.

The only issue I have with Blakely coming in, is if he is not playing in the midfield can he play forward or back?

Mundy only plays 65% game time? So Blakely could do the same and in the guts.

Blakeley has been played on wing and on the inside.

We need more inside options and are living dangerously if we don't provide them.

Blakeley is not ideal. He is a depth player. We need that now.

With Fyfe and Mundy both out it wouldn't surprise me if we finally give Walters some minutes in the middle on the weekend. Brayshaw, Serong, Brodie is a good young core. Just need to add speed (Switta) and skills (Walters) into the mix imo. That gives us 5 rotations. Tucker, Aish, Acres and Banners the others who might see midfield minutes.

Do you remember Nat Fyfe in 2010? Would be lucky to be 80kg and made his
Debut in the Len Hall game.
Never looked back, it’s that type of selection we need going forward.
Let’s hope that we don’t have to wait till the end of April to see change.
People were giving Walters a pass due to last years limited pre-season, how
Will Nat go in June?
Mundy is our only hope at 37, you can rearrange the deck chairs but without
Altering our coarse we are going to hit that iceberg.

He broke a bone, they decided not to go for surgery, it was always going to be a slow recovery but probably didn’t want him to have a plate in his foot before he has played a single game
Pretty sure it was an impact injury at training and not a stress reaction so just plain unlucky..

Ya know, I'm kinda ok with Fyfey being out for the first couple of months. Reckon that gives JLo and the team time to give some healthy hopefuls some game time and do some experimenting. Our depth is looking better and we have a good crop of promise in waiting, not to mention the couple of boom recruits that appear to be, err, booming (Brodie & Clarke). Remember we beat WC amoung others without Fyfe, and we need to beat teams more often without him. Fyfe coming back should simply strengthen an already strong, winning side.

So, lets give it to Brayshaw, Serong, Brodie, Eresmus, even Acres, Switter, maybe Sonny in the MF again with cameos from Crowden, Blakely, and maybe Johnson gets a run also? And I dont mind what Meeky can do when he gets his head on. Just drags packs with him and can rove his own ball. Lot of untapped upside in Meek yet, IMO.

I'm red hot keen see what these new kids can do in a Fyfe-less Freo. Hopefully we can win five from the first eight games without Fyfe, and then we go BANG when he comes back. This weeks game list announcement has got us all guessing, and I think I like it.

Go Freo!!

Agree. Just didn't think I would get to the point that I want him to play. Things change quickly.

Means two out of Brodie/Chapman/Ryan/Treacy to play.
