Game Day Round 2 - The Footscray Midfielders Academy vs West Coast - Sunday March 28, 12:20PM @ Marvel Stadium

John Elliott once called Footscray - "a club with a sad and tragic history". Next thing the Doggies went and pulled down the Blue Baggers pants and gave them a complete rogering at Princess Park. So I will be mindful not to upset the Sons of the West

TY24 - love the write up and happy to go back to the 2016 EF because the Doggies will pull down our pants if we come with a similar mindset and similar game plan.

As many have stated, it is a game I would like to think is ours but we need to be switched on.

We're definitely capable, but will need to be clinical with with the chances we get, as it's likely that the Bulldogs will dominate possession.

Bulldogs did look vulnerable in defensive one-on-ones against an average Collingwood team last week, particularly when the ball came in quickly. Get things moving like in the final quarter against Gold Coast and it will pose them serious problems.

Need to work out a plan for when Bontempelli pushes forward - can expect to see English and Bruce decoying up the ground in an attempt to keep McGovern and Barrass away from the drop zone where Bont will be operating. Whether it gets left to Rotham, or one of McGovern/Barrass stays at home and gives up the lead up the ground - I just do not want to see Nelson or Cole running onto him and trying hopelessly to combat him in a marking contest.

If the Bulldogs enter their attacking 50 like they did last week, four of our back six will get over 30 possessions and the game against Gold Coast will prove a good warm-up for our ball movement coming into this.

Allen working on their third defender will again create a mismatch in our favour that can be exploited.

Win this match away, without Yeo and Shuey, and we finish top four this year at a minimum.

Shuey kicked 5.3 and got 27 touches in that game.

It was his 14th AFL game
Oh boy wowee. Feels like yesterday. We genuinly haven’t had that many exciting kids in the side since then. Scary to think Jack at that stage produced a lot more than Oscar has atm.

And they gave the rising star to Heppell. LoL

Who’s their third tall to match up on Darling, JK and Allen. I only see Gardner and Keath as key backs?

English is good at getting back and positioning well, but where we can negotiate that either with ball speed once the game breaks open or with co-ordination and separation between our tall forwards, Williams should be set with a fair task.

Oscar attacks the ball hard. English will end up very very sore if he stands in his way.

Surely all you Vic Based supporters, all three of you... Hai gaiz :raisinghand:

Are all excited to see the team play for the first time in Melbourne since the 2019 semi final loss against the Cats?

Heck yeah, should be good to see them live for a change, though definitely a danger game so hopefully not disappointed at the end of it.

Anyone else expect Zac Langdon, if he stays in the side, to play a tagging role on Caleb Daniel to cripple their rebounding? We did it in the second half last year with Ainsworth and it (kinda) worked, so maybe a properly built forward will do a better job for longer.

Wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest

This is the team we sent out against them in round 16 last year

[14] Liam Duggan,[37] Tom Barrass,[5] Brad Sheppard
[35] Josh Rotham,[20] Jeremy McGovern,[30] Jackson Nelson
[23] Lewis Jetta,[4] Dom Sheed,[3] Andrew Gaff
[34] Mark Hutchings,[27] Jack Darling,[1] Liam Ryan
[33] Brayden Ainsworth,[17] Josh J. Kennedy,[2] Jake Waterman
[16] Tom Hickey,[11] Tim Kelly,[8] Jack Redden
[12] Oscar Allen,[24] Xavier O'Neill,[28] Tom Cole,[41] Brendon Ah Chee

Arguably our weakest team of the year, off of a 5 day break, and came close to beating them.

Compared to the above it will be:

OUT: Hickey, Ah Chee, Waterman, Ainsworth, Jetta
IN: Naitanui, Vardy, Hurn, Langdon, and one of Jones/Petch/Brander

Langdon to play the defensive forward role that Ainsworth played last year (and played really well) on Caleb Daniel.

Marvel suits us a lot more than Metricon, the roof will be closed, and our mids are in much better form (Sheed, Kelly BOG's) than last time and will be getting silver service off of Naitanui.

If Brander plays it will be at the expense of Petch and Brander will play big body midfielder and maybe try and negate Smith or Bont (LOL), not in the ruck (LOLOL).

I tried to find out how Nic matched up against Martin last time, but Stef didn't play in round 3 last year, and their last encounter would have been years ago when Brisbane was a rabble.
Jamie Cripps will be in the side this Saturday as well. He'd left to be with his wife as I think she was due.

Steady!

Apart from maybe Sydney, West Coast represent the best out of the non-Victorian teams in Melbourne!

But, yeah, can’t wait, it’s been way too long.

I can’t do it this week, but if any Vic members fancy a pre-match drink or buddying up to buy tickets together (unity is strength, campaigners), slide into my DMs like a Ryan spear pass.

I dunno but reckon Adelaide would have us just. So many South Australian flock to Melbourne

What worries me is if we keep bombing to our forwards.Sure they will clunk some but they will rebound a lot!Chip, chip, chip. Its all short stuff and retaining possession. We do have some great forwards but we have great skill as well, ands if we decide to go the short chip route we will do it as good as or better than most.We need to be flexible.
