Gee some Essendon fans thought that they were absolute monties for the four points
And everyone in the media!

Where is that Essendon fan that was talking about our home ground attendances? 70k at the G with a heap of Essendon supporters paying money to our coffers :D

After the first 5minutes, I was certain a blow out was on the cards. Pleasantly surprised.

Thought omaera was pretty average, and made a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes, but he got a lot of it, and it was probably the immense pressure of the game that caused it.

Worpel is a star. He is owe how to find space. A few years in the systemhe will have the composure to destroy opponents

Gunston was immense! Single handedly kept us in it when his 21 team mates forgot to turn up

Fantasia looks like he gets shot when Stratts gets that knee into him,

That would have hurt a lot & Stratts would have felt that impact all the way through to the other side of Fantasia’s rib cage.
Beautiful to watch
I loved seeing the landing. Was just floating in slow motion. It was like "Stratton from the top ropes" delivering a crushing blow.
Credit to Stratts, he went hard and marked it, but he really coulda creamed the gimp and gone the safety of the punch.

Blake Hardwick - the epitome of a Hawthorn back half player over the years. Tough, hard, skilled, combative and understated. This guy is contributing quietly every week, and I’m loving watching him. Will be a huge part of our future.

Well said HKH:thumbsu::thumbsu:
I gave Dimma a vote (Yabby Medal) just for that.
Many others came close but if it was not for our strong half backs the result may have changed.

You are forgetting the golden rule.

Any stats that favours Mitchell over any other player is a useless stat that doesn't reflect impact on the game. Other useless stats Mitchell beat Merrett in were clearances, contested to uncontested ratio, disposal efficiency, and inside 50s. Merrett did edge out Mitchell in clangers (by 1), but I'm sure there is a reason why its good to have more of those than less that I'll be told about in the main board Tom Mitchell thread.

Made me laugh !!!!

A couple more points:

1. Just watched the replay: whoever said Eddie’s commentary was “contrived” was being too nice. I feel so sorry for those interstate supporters who have to listen to this rubbish every week.

2. Seeing it on TV gets you close in on Shaun Burgoyne: he puts himself in the middle in big moments. If he stays fit, he’s playing on.

3. So the other games this weekend all featured wins by 2 or 3 points. We smashed these bastards by 4 points! Suffer that you ******, worst loss for the weekend.

By the way Hawkers, we are still no good. Already seen and heard where Worsfold, Goddard and Zaharakis are lamenting how badly they played and should of won.

Form side of the comp mate. They are in such good form they won’t even make the finals - that’s how good they are. Their form is so red hot it actually inverses in on itself and causes losses. It’s quantum footy!

Sam Lane on Sunrise this morning discussed that there was a controversial call in our match. She then refers to the Goddard overstep - then calls the Gunston goal that resulted ‘the sealer’.

Did she even watch the game??

Kane Cornes said the same thing so she was probably copying what he said. Sam Lane's too dopey to come up with anything herself.

One area we need to think about was something I brushed over last week. That's closing out games and putting results beyond doubt. The Hawks have an annoying habit at times of allowing junk time goals when they think they have the game won.

Last week against Freo, 30 seconds to go, and I just sat there waiting for the inevitable junk time goal to Freo. Didn't cost us the game so nobody cares. This should have been an exercise in closing the game down but we allowed a cheap goal. The final goal by Essendon yesterday was bloody annoying, as well as their comeback late in the match.

In a competition where percentage could decide the difference between playing finals or not, I really believe this is one area we can improve upon.

Did anyone read these posts on the Bombers board?
I think 1 in about 10 Hawk fans are actually decent human beings, some have contributed fairly well on Essendon threads over the last week and this is genuinely appreciated. The other 9? You wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire. Obnoxious levels currently through the roof.

They deserved to win today but that will essentially be their Grand Final this year. Yes they will play finals (yes, we won’t... which most ‘realistic’ supporters already knew before the result of this game) but that will be about it. Clarkson is a great coach with plenty of well drilled seasoned experienced players who got them over the line today. Will they be there for their next flag tilt? No.
They are a strange supporter group indeed - on big footy, and to a lesser extent in real life. It may be that they have come to football late or that they have seen a lot of success, but in stark contrast to other supporter groups most of them seem incapable of acknowledging anything outside Hawthorn. They seem to spend a lot of their time doing their best to denigrate great players from other clubs (Ablett Selwood ect.). From what I read on their board it seems that the majority of them don't actually like or appreciate the game of football. Strange bunch.

This from people who actively support systemised cheating, who apologise on behalf of that same system, who are so deluded in all things scum they can't see the evidence of their guilt right before their eyes. What a disgraceful sector of society. I am so proud of my nephew for dropping that dishonourable, humliation of a club as soon as the wada finding came out. He supported them, that is his decision, but once he knew with certainty they were cheats, he dropped them like the pathetic coven of disreputable illegitimate felons that they are.

The Bombers would continue to fight, and prospered from a questionable decision by Hawks youngster James Worpel to play on and turn the ball over. Andrew McGrath, Jake Stringer - superb all day but nursing a sore ankle - and Cale Hooker, sent forward, would all goal - the latter with 1:40 minutes remaining.

That drew the Bombers to within four points but the contest appeared over when Worpel responded to his earlier error by fending off Michael Hurley and running into an open goal. Befitting one of the games of the year, the Bombers threw one last punch - Travis Colyer drilling a long running goal from 50m with 13 seconds remaining. However, the Hawks won the ensuing centre bounce - and the four points were secure.

Did this Jon Pierik actually watch the game? Idiot.

Was at the game, it was fantastic to see we had jets of our own to deal with.
I was worried about their run off half back but it all hinged on clearances.
Few things :
-Stratton surely has to get three votes for that game. Immense.
-Most of Gunston’s goals were pretty special, a masterclass in forward craft.
-we’ve got some good young talent in Miles, Morison and Worpel. Building nicely!
