Neale had to play. I think I said last week they would play Henry fwd over picking Neale but now those excuses have literally run out. If Neale didn’t play then you’d have to wonder why he’s on the list.

Hopefully he can create a contest. Outside of our obvious midfield worries bringing the ball to ground from any kick going down the line has been utterly terrible. Henry has stopped that part of his game. Blitz is our main guy and he’s out. Hawkins has struggled and is out anyway and it’s not Cameron’s go. Unless Rohan competes we have nothing. If Neale can just do that simple thing I’d be impressed.

Get Neale up forward and tell him to lead and compete if he cant mark it.
Make the Pies defenders account for him in the air and keep Moore busy as their 3rd man up and dropping off his opponent.
Makes Jezza and Rohan 1 on 1.

And we need that.

IT'S HAPPENING

I'll preface my comment here with the admission that I'm a huge fan of Shannon's potential. But the idea that he's been any good at competing in the air has been seriously challenged by some who've watched his recent performances in the VFL. His lack of contest when the ball's coming into a pack situation has been noted by more than a couple of posters here.

So I'm not really expecting much from him on that front if he's into the AFL side for this game.

I havent basically watched 1 second of him

Is he a good overhead mark - like 1 grab ?

Is he a good kick ?

Just need Neale to keep Darcy Moore busy..

We will also need him to rotate in the ruck without Hawkins, Blicavs, and Henry.

I can absolutely imagine it. Both teams have an air of vulnerability.

Port lost 4 on the trot, while Brisbane went really close to coming out of the GC and Freo games with 0 points. Few are convincing right now.

Any of 10 sides can be "The Danger" if they peak over the next month.
True that. But we are far from full strength, and playing Pies at the G on a Friday night is the game most Geelong supporters think is beyond us. However, a spine looking like DEK, Sav, Bruhn, Cameron, Neale is ok. Would like that to be our future spine.

He's very strong on the lead. And he is a quality kick for goal. But it does appear that he currently struggles to be competitive in the air in pack situations.

Just have to hope that more experience (and more strength over time) galvanises him, to the point where he can be an aerial presence as well.

Great opportunity for Neale. If anything, it may make Collingwood play a bit taller in backline and reduce their run. Having a 2nd ruck more than 188cm will be a change.

He seems good on the lead and a nice kick for goal. I share concerns that he sometimes his opponent marks almost uncontested.

At least if he's playing on Darcy Moore, we know this is unlikely to hurt us going the other way.

I'm selfishly hoping Collingwood take the conservative route with Murphy though.

Cameron, Neale, Rohan and O.Henry would be a lot for them to handle. Moore, Howe and who else would mind them?

Psychologically, I wonder which team is more unnerved about the game? The Cats with nothing to prove, the Pies with everything.

Also is it just me or is it a bit harsh to be pulling in the rookies in games like this? Pies at the G in front of 90k - hard to think how a kid like Neale will handle that.

Then again, this is Geelong.

On the last point: last week was an elimination final and we had J.Henry is my best guess. And they want another genuine target to stretch the Pies/preoccupy Moore.

It's hard to say regarding psychology. The heat is on Collingwood but Geelong still have less room for error. It'd be about even. Geelong still probably need a statement win away from GMHBA.

I see why you have that view…I have posted a few times in VFL thread something similar….but distinguish between his in a one on one wrestle type situation where I think he is poor (for now) as opposed to him leading to the ball or getting a run up where I think he is a very good mark (contested as well if he gets a run at it).
