Magpies win - Pies certainties for the flag beating the 2nd placed team with their VFL side, Lions no hope for the flag.

Lions win - Meh they only beat a VFL Pies side, still have to prove themselves.
WOW, good to see our supporters haven't got caught up in media click-bait crap.

You got it in a nutshell. This bullshit if we don't win we can't win the premiership is just media trash.
We are in the four. The finals are a re-start.
All that is required tonight is rehersal for the real thing.
The rest will take care of itself in September.
We won threepeat for fook sake without realy dominating the home and away season.
We should not lose sight that September is our focus not a home and away match.
It would be nice to win but it's not the be all.

You can try to downplay the result as much as you want, but this is the third chance we have been given to secure our own destiny. I can't remember us getting any mulligans in previous seasons, so to let this one slip would be disastrous.

I am nervous, we normally have faltered in these defining games. Our best is, IMO, the best in the league. If we can produce it for 4 qs tonight, I'll be looking forward to the upcoming finals campaign.

I believe, go lions.

I'm feeling good about this one - really like the team selected.

Regardless of their outs, they're still a good side, and a win tonight in a big game a few weeks out from finals would set us up so well.

Let's smash them from the first bounce again

I remember in 2001 we couldn't win in Melbourne (apparently).

I don't think we're necessarily out of it if we lose tonight . But in all honesty we should be winning against this Pies lineup and on paper would make a GF appearance so much easier to achieve.

Get ready for the press to completely write us off if we do cough it up tonight but once you get to finals the unexpected can happen .I think the boys will be up for it tonight whereas there is some hope the Pies mightn't be as mentally attuned.

Further to the above re: Collingwood’s “Outs." Moore, Daicos, DeGoey etc...

My mind is a bit foggy now but I seem to remember a similar game during our era when we had significant numbers of our quality players out due to injury, suspensions etc... and the media and supporters pretty much wrote us off the same as they seem to write Collingwood off and placed enormous pressure on the opposition to win. They said Brisbane can't win they are missing their stars etc...etc…
We come out and smashed them (sorry can't remember the other team)
Akka after the game summed it up in one sentence. "Everyone was so focused on who we were missing, they forgot to look who we had in."

So let's not forget the Pies are a quality team irespective that they have a few out. Fly will remember the Brisbane era. He will remind his players I am sure.

This is our first final.
I totally agree.
We have to be switched on like it's do or die , nothing left in the tank.
Plenty of time to rest the bones before actual finals start.
Why?
For mind , we need to get our system to start humming and it has got to start before the finals start imo.
Top two position is only the icing on that cake, although having said that it's quality and will put the cake on the top shelf .
I'm hoping no rust on kiddy, if any this is a tiny concern as I hope our system can cover one or two players being off.
Go LIONSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

There are more instances of teams being written off without their stars and winning that I've had hot dinners. The players who come in have a lot to prove.

I don't think it's so much the outs that significantly helps us , though undeniably it should be a big factor , it's more that Collingwood don't really need to win and we do if we're serious about winning a flag.

So maybe their motivation mightn't be what it could be if the game gets hard and tough.

Great post. Agree 100%.

We have an extra game this year but going into this round 23 is just as important as the last round of 2022.
In 2022 Geelong was top two game clear of 4 teams Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane & Collingwood.
Important causalities from that last round in 2022.
Lions dropped from 4th to 6th, Sydney from 2nd to 3rd, and Carlton dropped out of the finals from 8th to 9th.
Clubs that improved position Melbourne 3rd to 2nd. Pies moved into top 4, Dockers 6th to 5th and Dogs scrapped into 8th position by 0.55%

A win tonight would be excellent and would guarantee a great crowd attendance for the last game v Saints.
To win away is always hard but let's hope the boys are up for tonights challenge.

Damo claiming this is the biggest home and away game of Fagans tenure as coach.

Given what's at stake, it certainly doesn't feel far off.
Have to agree. Totally experienced side in the premiership window and all but seals top 2. As others have noted we have had opportunities to close the gap v melb and gc and we failed. This though is the first game in the second half of this season where you say win = top 2. In fact that’s true of any game since 2020.

Such an incredible opportunity given it’s at docklands and pies outs.

We should be jumping out of our skins to win this one.

Hoping to get along and lend my voice to the cause BUT more importantly i have plonked some hard earned on the pies at $2.05, here’s hoping it goes the same way as my freo bet haha

 As an aside on that graphic, unless they win a game over the final 2 rounds of the season the Kangaroos and Eagles will have gone through 2 full seasons with 4 wins each, it's been a horror show.

Even in our Leppa years we didn't string together 2 such dismal seasons.

Felt pretty dismal at the time.

In the old days they would be getting a nice early priority pick eg 1 and 3 for last and 2 and 4 for second last and the next team would get 5 instead of 3 etc.

If that had still been in place during the Leppa-time I wonder if we would have made sure we only won four ...

I really do want to believe that we can win this one tonight but on most recent form I am struggling to.
We need to get a lot right and have a few things go our way and get back to the running form of the 2nd and 3rd quarters of our he Melbourne game.
And most importantly defend like our lives depend on it, which is something that has fallen away in recent weeks.

Hopefully the Melbourne based Lions contingent can get there in large numbers and support the boys loud and proud.

Eagles play Dogs & Crows so unlikely they win one of those.
North play Tigers and Suns. Although a win is unlikely, they have a better chance. They play the Suns in Tas.

Norths two wins were actually the first 2 rounds against Eagles (H) and Dockers (A).
They were equal top of the ladder at that stage.
