Well deserved. Of all the VFL games I've watched this year he has absolutely no qualms with getting his hands dirty and putting his head over the ball. Definitely earned his spot.
As much as I'm pleased with the side chosen for this game, it's not really at all surprising or 'bold'. Once you eliminate the ten names that would have been playing (if not for injury or 'early' surgery, given our finals chances evaporated last weekend), this is absolutely the next names you had to consider. there really weren't any other options that could have been sensibly suggested. Only SOS (who's had all of one game back with the Bankers) and Hardie could have been considered as even remotely close to consideration alongside those who've actually been selected. So for all the suggestions that this is a refreshing change, it seems to me that it was much more instigated by circumstance than by design.
Having said that, I'm really hoping the youngsters do well. Given where our list is heading, they aren't just the future. They are actually rapidly becoming the present.

He looks a long way off it to me but you can't question his work rate and toughness. He gives me Atkins vibes where he doesn't have the tricks of the high draft picks but maybe with the right workrate and attitude he can overtake a lot of them in time.
It'll be tough with against the Dogs midfield but coming on with fresh legs might let him compete against the bigger bodies.
In a strange quirk of numerology, I'm figuring it's either #1 or #2.

I don't think he's retiring, actually. Sounds like he'd be keen for another shot at it if an offer came his way.
Yeah the email from the club clearly saying it's his last cats game, not retiring.
Not part of our strategy moving forward, but could be worth picking up. Geez wit hall our injuries this year a fit Menegola would have made a real difference.

Witts carried Gold Coast to their round 3 victory over us too. Nankervis was huge in the 2017 Grand Final.
I think Gold Coast's Ned Moyle is going to be a star. He rucked alongside Conway in the academy team against our VFL side, Moyle was #1 ruck, Conway #2. He was clearly the better ruckman that day.
There's also a few decent ruck options in the draft this year.

Sad to see the end of Sam Menegola's career at the Cattery. I'm not sure he's officially retiring from football, he may try to get to another club next year, but the Catters have told him he won't be re-signed next year. But we have watched many games when Sam has won us the match, and I'm very appreciative of everything he has contributed at the Cats.

Some posters just can't be saved on here. Mullin, seriously? Just...wow.
After nearly two decades of this, I'm on with finishing as low as possible for once.
There's nothing to be won or lost either way in regards to team feels. Next year will still have the veterans who have been through it all and if a better draft hand gets us someone like Smith then I'm going to be very bullish about 2024 (barring injuries).

Sam was part of the initial 44 man AA squad in 2020, he and Guth was a big help for us to make the GF that year. Unlucky to miss the flag last year.
Smith, got us going in the granny along with the Hawk with those 2 first qtr goals. Wish we drafted him so we had him for longer.

Listening to Scott's press conference, does anyone else think he was wanting to say another name or two after thanking Isaac Smith & mentioning it as his farewell game
Smith should've come straight over the second he missed that after the siren shot in the 2016 QF. Ripping off his Hawthorn jumper to reveal a Hawthorn one underneath. Throw Cameron in 4 years earlier and it's likely that we'd have landed one of the 2019 or 2020 flags.
