Round 24 Fixture Prediction

Off the back of tonight's successful Friday night game in Perth, how about a Friday double header once again in Round 24?

Friday
Melbourne v Collingwood @ MCG 7.15pm (Seven)
Fremantle v Port Adelaide @ Optus Stadium 8.30pm

Saturday
Richmond v Gold Coast @ MCG 1.45pm
Geelong v West Coast @ GMHBA Stadium 4.35pm
Carlton v St Kilda @ Marvel Stadium 7.30pm (Seven)
Sydney v Adelaide @ SCG 7.30pm

Sunday
Hawthorn v North Melbourne @ UTAS Stadium 12.30pm
Western Bulldogs v GWS Giants @ Mars Stadium 3.20pm (Seven)
Brisbane v Essendon @ GABBA 6.10pm

My arguments for Sunday games:
  • Hawthorn playing for a spot in the top 8
  • Dogs and Giants potentially playing for a top 4 finish
  • Brisbane potentially playing for a top 2 finish
**Note: a 3.20pm game has been played in Ballarat before (Round 19 2018), so this should be possible

Friday
Melbourne v Collingwood, MCG (7.40pm)
Saturday
Hawthorn v North Melbourne, UTAS (1.45pm)
Richmond v Gold Coast, MCG (1.45pm)
Geelong v West Coast, GMHBA (4.35pm)
Carlton v St Kilda, Marvel (7.30pm)
Sydney v Adelaide, SCG (7.30pm)
Sunday
Bulldogs v GWS, Mars (1.10pm)
Brisbane v Essendon, Gabba (3.20pm)
Fremantle v Port Adelaide, Optus (4.40pm)

Lions/Bombers will most likely get the Sunday slot I think as there’s a good chance it’ll have ramifications for the 8

Here's my first attempt at predicting the Round 24 fixture. What do we think?

Friday
7.40 Brisbane v Essendon Gabba

Saturday
1.45 Hawthorn v North Melbourne UTAS
1.45 Geelong v West Coast GMHBA
4.35 Richmond v Gold Coast MCG
7.30 Carlton v St Kilda Marvel
7.30 Sydney v Adelaide SCG

Sunday
12.30 Western Bulldogs v GWS Mars
3.20 Collingwood v Melbourne MCG
6.10 Fremantle v Port Adelaide Optus

Yes this post is from a Richmond fan. And yes it is school holidays too.
Richmond v GC will be a Sunday game as it’s a nothing event.

I might be wrong, but doesn't the afl put the nothing games earlier on the weekend that in that round to try to prevent dead rubbers of those who a competing for finals positions?

Obviously we won't be getting prime time like Friday or Saturday night, but my guess would be Saturday afternoon.

No way they do a dead rubber on Friday night. They will be lucky to get 30k there. There still needs to be a commercial aspect to it.

Brisbane vs Essendon Friday night is the way to go.

Friday
7.40 Brisbane v Essendon Gabba

Saturday
1.45 Hawthorn v North Melbourne UTAS
1.45 Geelong v West Coast GMHBA
4.35 Collingwood v Melbourne MCG
7.30 Carlton v St Kilda Marvel
7.30 Sydney v Adelaide SCG

Sunday
12.30 Richmond v Gold Coast MCG
3.20 Western Bulldogs v GWS Mars
6.10 Fremantle v Port Adelaide Optus

I reckon the AFL would have loved to have had the Hawks on Sunday but due to the two MCG games being underwhelming they might be hoping for a Dusty farewell moment instead.

Friday
7:40 Brisbane v Essendon GABBA

Saturday
1:45 Hawthorn v North Melbourne UTAS
1:45 Collingwood v Melbourne MCG
4:35 Geelong v West Coast GHMBA
7:30 Carlton v St Kilda Marvel
7:30 Fremantle v Port Adelaide OPTUS

Sunday
1:10 Bulldogs v GWS MARS
3:20 Sydney v Adelaide SCG
6:10 Richmond v Gold Coast MCG

Although I’d like to see Pies v Dees on Saturday night with Freo game as a Friday double header.

Here’s an idea - stagger the start times so we can at least watch the last quarter of all games.

Friday
7:40 Brisbane v Essendon GABBA

Saturday
2.00 Hawthorn v North Melbourne
3.20 Collingwood v Melbourne MCG
5.00 Syd v Adel
7:15 Carlton v St Kilda
7.50 Geel v WC

OPTUS

Sunday
12.30 Rich v GC
3.20 Dogs v GWS
6.10 Freo v Port

Friday night - Melbourne v Collingwood @ MCG
Saturday 1:45pm - Hawthorn v North @ UTS
Saturday 1:45pm - Carlton v St Kilda @ Marvel
Saturday 4:45pm - Geelong v West Coast @ GMHBA
Saturday 7.30pm - Sydney v Adelaide @ SCG
Saturday 7.30pm - Brisbane v Essendon @ Gabba
Sunday 1.10pm - Bulldogs v GWS @ Mars
Sunday 3.20pm - Richmond v Gold Coast @ MCG
Sunday 4.40pm - Freo v Port @ Optus

So based off the information from Tom Morris and the Herald Sun, we know the following:

Friday 7.40pm Melbourne v Collingwood
Saturday 2.10pm Richmond v Gold Coast
Saturday 7.30pm Brisbane v Essendon
Saturday 7.30pm Sydney v Adelaide
Sunday early Bulldogs v Giants
Sunday 3.20pm Carlton v St Kilda
Sunday evening Fremantle v Port Adelaide

So the only unknowns are what time Hawthorn v North & Geelong v West Coast will start on the Saturday.

Presumably Freo v Port will start at 6.10pm so it’s standalone like Rd24 last year, so Dogs and Giants might start at 12.30pm in that case.

Also, 2.10pm Saturday footy is making a comeback!!

Geelong probably Saturday twilight to clash with Storm.

Have a mate that is mad Geelong abd made Storm and says they have clashed most weeks. He us very frustrated with it

Also Friday night will probably be a dead rubber
It had to be either Melbourne v Collingwood or Richmond v Gold Coast as both are scheduled for the MCG and can't both be played on the same day.

Collingwood is a bankable team for ratings regardless of the possibility finals will be out of the equation.

Could have played on Saturday abd I e Sunday.

Friday night should have been Lions v Essendon or Freo v Port
