Went last night. My first trip to the footy since 2019 and it was awesome to be back.

I thought we played really well. We moved the ball quickly when the opportunity was there and slowed it down when it wasn't.

A really basic thing that stood out was that JDG started his lead about 2 seconds too early. Happened 3 times - one to Daicos, one to Mihocek and one maybe to Grundy. He pushed off his opponent and got two metres clear but the player with the ball hadn't even looked up. By the time they did it was almost too late. The Daicos one was the most frustrating because he still should have passed it, but instead went long to a 1 v 1, and our 1 was JT. That was never going to work.

What also stood out was the umpiring errors which were significant in the end. The Neale incorrect disposal with a few minutes left was essentially the same as the one that went against the Lions last week. I thought it at the ground and when I got home I watched a replay and it was even clearer.

And finally, having watched the replay how good was it seeing dad and younger brother's reaction when Josh kicked that goal in the last. Can't wait to see the two brothers playing together. Maybe Nick can be the one to finally force WHE/JT/Callum out of the side!

I can deal with a loss like that. Didn't think we would be in it to be honest.
So good and some bad. I have accepted we are a team on the slide so these performances where we fall away are to be expected.

Yes it's annoying we lost a close game AGAIN but stop following Collingwood if you can't get used to that. Yes some questionable umpiring did not help but as I have said many times in this sport EVERY close game is inevitably decided by an umpiring decision or non decision.

In the end we looked good against a premiership contender but couldn't get the job done. It happens when you are in fact not a premiership contender.

After the loss against the bulldogs everyone was saying they can handle a loss against a better team, couldn't handle the way we lost to the bulldogs.

It seems that isn't quite true. Some people just can't handle losing in any way. There are positives from last night. There are negatives.

Everyone needs to look at our list, realize where we are at and rethink their expectations for this team. Best case we sneak into finals, maybe even win one. The end. That's it.

If you can't handle that then maybe just take a year off Collingwood.

Noticed this too

After some thinking over it was hard to take after being in the lead all night however Brisbane will most likely be in the 4 come seasons end. Some players especially hoskin elliot and the brown brothers simply nowhere near good enough they can't be getting games. Also our midfield not sure what is happening but Grundy having 60 hit outs to 4 how do we barely win centre clearancez let alone we only kicked 1 behind from clearances all night. Another question why an earth did Crisp get minimal minutes inside the square last night he was one of our best over the 1st 2 rounds and last night looked to play more hb and wing?

Shocking way to lose. Didn’t hear the siren just saw the Lions players going crazy

Game itself was more of what 2021 is looking like. Fast, less defence and more mistakes. Both sides played well

Always hurts to get out to that lead and we looked good in a lot of way. A few of the better players, Moore, Adams, De Goey were down but most of the rest played well. WHE the obvious exception

Noble. Really solid, lots of link running and provides and out let. Manages ok 1:1

Sier . Clear step up tonight, really strong game and some deft inside work

Roughy. Was immense. Best game for the club

Daics . Just class with the ball

Thomas. Very good tonight, was down last week but combined with round 1 having a good season

T Brown. Growing into the game. Goes about quietly, don’t think will ever be a star but a solid contributor

C. Brown. Worked really hard and good game apart from the miss. That hurt.

WHE. Totally devoid of confidence and not going in. Needs the VFL.

Madgen. Plenty of good moments. Dependable and plays a role

Mayne. Hard at it, solid game

WHE is the only one who goes out.

Not sure who comes in

I hate these statements. I heard it after the 2018 GF and 2019 prelim too. We led all night. We were the only team that broke out to a 25 point lead and looked likely to break the game open. If Brisbane were so deserving why were they behind all night and why did they need a kick after the siren to win?
Because when it mattered, they delivered and we didn’t.

Is Isaac Quaynor going to move into the midfield at al? Its just a no brainer to me. Strong over the ball, great agilty, pace. His weakness in his kick penetration gets exposed in defence as well. I tend to think it’s the Elliot Yeo syndrome a Collingwood style. Just move him into the midfield where he belongs

Eventually

We have just moved Crisp there so I doubt we want to change our backline much more in the short term. Both Quayor and Noble have legitimate claims to play upfield.

I don’t understand all the negativity. Yep, we lost, and I’m as shattered as everyone else. I sat in my seat in silence for a good 15-20 minutes after the game, haven’t been that flat about a loss since the 2018 GF.

In saying that, there was so much to like from last night.
- How good was IQ on Charlie Cameron? The kid is a ripper.
- Brodie was back to his best. I know his competition wasn’t much, but I won’t hear a bad word about him. His follow up work and tackle pressure was first class. He had a ruthless edge to his game last night and he wanted to punish Tom Fullarton aerobically and physically and that’s what he did.
- He gets a lot of hate, but Coxy competed well all night I felt.
- I thought the Bear had a strong game too, floated in and out but I was really pleased by his game.
- Our backline is ultra reliable, arguably the best in the league. It has a great balance of key defenders, rebounding defenders and intercept marking.

To me, at the end of the day, Brisbane ARE a powerful side in the competition. We were up to our eyeballs in winning that game and probably should’ve. However, when there’s less than a goal in it, everything that’s happened for the first 100+ minutes doesn’t matter anymore, it’s how you handle the clutch moments. Brisbane handled it better, like the better side that they are, and we just didn’t measure up when the heat was on.

I’m super proud, shattered and hoping some personnel changes are made, but if we play like that most weeks and learn from our mistakes we’ll win our fair share of games and start trending upwards.

Cox & Moore - 0 contested marks.

Andrews & Daniher - 5 contested marks.

We were dominated in the air.

A bit of cherry picking there.

Andrews and any of Daniher/Hipwood/Adams - 5 contested marks

Howe and any of Madgen/Roughead/Mihocek - 5 contested marks

Moore and Cox both had good games

Agree with most of what you said, what most people are frustrated by is the continued games of the same passengers week in week out who are not good enough. Some personnel changes are needed

It seemed like Degoey spent more time in the midfield than the week before, or did I imagine it?

Like Elliott, he is an adequate midfielder but a very good forward. If team selection allows I’d prefer he only pinch hit there.

I’m talking about our key pillars not influencing the air at all.

No, you said we (ie the team) were dominated in the air...not two players.

Roughead covered off what Moore didnt do and Mihocek covered off what Cox didnt do. Its a team game.

Moore was still influential in the air with his spoiling and Cox did what he was paid to do in the forward line.

If you don’t see an issue with Cox & Moore not taking a contested mark between them, I can’t help ya.

Difference is Brisbane trust their young brigade, don’t carry list cloggers which have played enough footy and shown nothing, they give them a chance and they crack in for 4 full quarters.
Until we finally turn the corner and just blood all our youngsters we will continue to lose games because our bottom 6 are putrid.
You can’t blame Grundy for the loss, he was absolutely colossus. BOG by the length of my chol and it’s massive.
Clearly we need a change of coach.
