Anyone here agree with Nisbett more than Worsfold?

:thumbsu:

Our senior group better turn up this weekend.

I hope fletcher who could be classed as in our senior group does not turn up, becuase that will mean he is not playing.:):D

Geez, look at all the Negative Nancies.

"Waaah - why didn't McKinley get a game? sniffle, sniffle ... I love McNamara!"

Come on, folks.

So some of the more widely-expected changes weren't made. Big deal. McKinley and McNamara missed and Selwood gets a game.

We're going to see all of these young guys at some point this year, so having some of them miss the derby is hardly the end of the world.

I'm psyched to see how young Selwood goes at AFL level, and whether JK has what it takes to hold down a key forward post.

No marks for Lynch inside 50 yet, 1 for Hansen and 3 for Wirrapanda. I think a small forward like McKinley would be a good selection.

^^I don't think they will change whether its raining or not personally. But i agree with you if they do drop a tall hopefully its Hansen.

That's a totally reasonable view. It's one I share myself.

But that selection wasn't made, and we instead have another debutant in Scott Selwood, and a quasi-debutant in Josh Kennedy.

What's the point of getting wound up about McKinley's or McNamara's continued absence? It's just another source of pointless negativity.

I'd much rather focus on the guys who were named than those who weren't.

I reckon Scott Selwood is going to be a little ripper. He could very quickly become one of the fan favourites.

Josh Kennedy could go either way. We don't have a good record with key forwards, especially those drafted early on. Fingers crossed that he shows something.

I think we will rotate our talls. Hansen, Lynch, Cox, Seaby and Kennedy will play up forward but I think we will have 2 talls in our forward line at a time.

Not usually one to post on here, so forgive me for intruding, but I think you might be pretty right with this and I wouldn't even be surprised to see you with 3 talls. It's in your best interests that McPharlin stays back - you need to stack your forwardline with talls to ensure that happens. As much as they may do nothing, a forward line of Pavlich, Tarrant and McPharlin (plus Farmer) could certainly get out of hand if they click and you can't give any of them too much room to move.

Back to my own board where I belong now.

Sadly we are making the same mistake as last two weeks and are going in with too many talls and not enough ground speed and agility down forward; look forward to another week of opposition backman running off and creating havoc for our defenders. Sadly, I reckon we'll be flogged. I wish it could be otherwise...

I'd be much happier to see McPharlin in your forward line, it tends to lead to Pavlich playing waaaaay too far up the ground.

Plenty on here are calling for McKinley's inclusion, and it sounds like his form has been pretty good. If he keeps it up, he'll surely be rewarded at some stage.

But if the idea is to bring in a crumbing forward, then is McKinley really the answer?

My understanding is that, while McKinley might be mid-sized, he's more a lead-and-mark forward than a genuine crumber.

McKinley may well add an extra string to our forward-line, but if we're after someone who can get front-and-centre around the packs and convert half-chances, is he really our best bet?

I guess McKinley is the half way option. The selectors seem to want marking power down forward. McKinley offers that, but will also have good ground speed if the ball hits the deck and is in dispute. He can also place pressure on defenders trying to run the ball back out. Wirra also offers a good small option down forward; I think his days of loose defending are just about beyond him now. The genuine extra talls become a handicap once the ball hits the deck as defenders just run off them too easily. The ball hits the deck about 3 out of every four 50 metere entries (especially the way we've been delivering it in this season), so best option seems to be the more mobile types.

I don't know that that's really McKinley's strong suit.

If we want a defensive small forward to lock the ball in, Armstrong would be a better option.

Except that Armstrong isn't fit, so he is about as likely to be picked as I am.

We don't have any natural crumbing forwards. Our best options are LeCras (who is also injured) and Wirrpanda who has a terrible defensive game when playing forward.

I'd like to see a full forward line with one tall of Lynch, Kennedy or Seaby with Wirrpanda and a guy like Beau Waters, Adam Selwood or even Nicoski who can play defensively as Chick & RoJo used to.

I agree with your sentiments, but I don't think it's going to work. Freo have a tall backline anyway with Grover, Dodd, Johnson ... even Mundy is 6'3". If they want to send McPharlin forward they're able to pretty easily, they've got the talls to match up on us without him.

I'd like to see Hurn take RoJo's role as the defensive half-forward if we're not going to use him in the midfield. Apart from anything else, it'd leave him hanging around just outside the forward 50 where he can bomb some supergoals.
