Round 3 RisingStar - Jacob Weitering

Jacob played with good composure and is a good decision maker , beyond his years.
If he continues this form he'll play 15 to 20 games 1st year, not to bad for an Eighteen year old.
What a great pick up for the Baggers, he's one of the better pick 1 in long while.
Let's hope Harry , Charlie, David and Jack are all successful too.

He will win it. Gun.
Not so sure about that. Parish, Oliver, Daniel. Papley has looked pretty good so far. Petracca hasn't played yet. Hopper, Francis, Ah Chee and plenty more to come. Strong group with maybe four standouts so far, one of which hasn't played a game yet, but still bloody early.

I have never seen such composure from a 3rd gamer. Especially from a key position player.

Don't get me wrong, I love what I'm seeing, but not convinced that he's a shoe in. I think it's a lot more even than last year, where there were only really two standouts.
Heaps of little things to like about his game. He's happy to absorb the pressure, draw the defender, even happy to take the tackle knowing that he can still get a handball off. Backs himself in pretty much every time. Clean disposal. The fact that he's doing all this as a KPD at 18yo and only 3 games into his professional career is an absolute joy, but the real pleasure comes from watching him play and develop and knowing that he's ours. If last year taught us anything, it's that these awards are nice, but don't mean much in the grand scheme of things. I don't begrudge Hogan for winning last year, he was just as deserving as Cripps, but in the absence of a tie, you are always going to have a deserving player miss out and Cripps' career won't be lessened by being runner up. My expectations this year are tempered. I'm just enjoying watching the team grow, knowing that next year I won't be worried about whether he won or lost the RS.
If I had $50 to put on the Rising Star, I wouldn't know who to choose. That's a good thing.

Going to call it early and say Weitering is a chance for All-Australian if he keeps playing the way he is.
Don't think so. Talia won't give up 4 goals to the likes of Lynch or Buddy very often. Rance will come into form too. Gibson hasn't dropped off one bit either and Frawley is looking great. He would have to have an entire year better than these players which is a huge task for someone so young. IMO almost zero chance of AA. The very very best are able to play on a Buddy/Cameron/Walker/Reiwoldt etc. for the entire game and win their matchup more often than not, keeping them to 2 goals is a normal game.

Having said that, what a star. Already a gun and a composed head/leader down back. As safe a #1 pick as you could ask for and has full confidence in himself as a teenager.

This is very well deserved - Jacob has not put a foot wrong since being drafted. Has made a seamless transition to AFL football and already looks like a 10 year veteran. Has an enormous future ahead of him.

Where's out gift basket for losing to Brisbane in Rd 23 last year?? We've set your club up for 10 years!

Will likely come this weekend.

I though that Caleb Daniel might have been a little stiff to not get nominated after his career-best performance against the reigning premiers.

But Weitering is definitely a worthy nominee. I have never in my short life, witnessed a young KPD with such composure.
