Can any Melbourne supporters provide comments on what Boweys role is and whether it changed from round 1 to 2?

Alot of neutral supporters are suggesting he has taken salems role but looking at Boweys highlights it doesnt appear the Dees are actively using him as a distributor. He actually won alot of his ball contested and intercepting. Whilst this bodes well for his future as a player it doesnt give me as much confidence picking him in supercoach.
His scoring has actually changed based on Rivers returning to the side in R2. Without Salem, and with Rivers and Hunt playing more defensive roles, Bowey is freed up a bit to peel off and get those intercepts + provide drive out of defence. May is going to be the primary option for rebound based on the penetration in his kicking, which is why he takes the kick-ins even with Salem in the team.

Bowey is going to be dependent on winning a lot of his own ball, which he is definitely capable of. Don't pick him expecting a 90+ average, but take him as as safe 75-80 that'll make you cash and save you having to field one of your Hinge/McCartin types.

Mulling over 2 very different trade packages.
One, an MPM $$ grab. The other, a Big Bang trade. Both pose their own risk/rewards I think. Appreciate some feedback kents!

MPM trade:
OUT: Dusty Owens Turdin
IN: Bowey(D4) Caldwell(M6) Brodie(F4)

B: Hall Whitfield Hewett Bowey Hinge McCartin (Sinn Gibcus)
M: Macrae Touk Oliver Neale Rowell Caldwell JHF Daicos (Ward DStephens Pedlar)
R: Gawn Grundy (Hayes)
F: Dunkley Butterz Cogs Brodie Xerri Rachelle (NMartin SDK)

——————————————————————

BIG BANG trade:
OUT: Gawn Dusty Turdin
IN: English(R2) Petracca(M4) Brodie(F4)

B: Hall Whitfield Hewett Hinge Gibcus McCartin (Sinn SDK)
M: Macrae Touk Oliver Petracca Neale Rowell JHF Daicos (Ward DStephens Owens)
R: Grundy English (Hayes)
F: Dunkley Butterz Cogs Brodie Xerri Rachelle (NMartin Pedlar)

I prefer the 2nd way - 2 keepers and a cow vs 3 cows means the first option requires too many trades in the long run.

JM when he scores 2,600 this week kenties after trading Shitfield > Hall, Gawn > Heeney and Chapman > Bowey. :moustache:

JM after Haye's is a late out ....score's 2200

No idea what the rest of your trades are, so hard to tell.
My issue is always that cheap rucks are cheap for a reason. They seem to get injured. A LOT. Many others just end up giving me the shits being dropped or going to KPF.
Is there any way to restructure trades to get English into fwds ? He's a good compromise and may end up averaging same as Butters anyway (doubt it tho)
I'm not trusting Xerri to either make more than 75-80avg, or to stay on the paddock as a #1 ruck. I reckon if the plan was Xerri to R2 after Rnd 6 thats a full 40 pts a week giveaway on simply having a solid R2 and saving a trade as well. Thats a lot of points to make up, as well as trusting his body holds up.

Pre-trade team:

B: Crisp, Short, Whitfield, Sicily, Hinge, McCartin (SDK, NOD)
M: Macrae, Oliver, Steele, Neale, Rowell, JHF, Daicos, Ward (McDonald, Hough, Owens)
R: Gawn, Grundy (Dixon)
F: Dunkley, Treoar, Coniglio, Brodie, Rachele, Hayes (Martin,Durdin)

Planned trades:

1. Whitfield to Hewett, Gawn to Butters (via Hayes), Owens to Cripps. Had Crippa all pre-season and changed to Whitfield to go with the crowd so pretty keen.

Alternatives could include:

2. Keep Gawn, Owens to Stephens (60K)
3. Gawn to English, Owens to Stephens (just short of Cripps, pocket 320K)
4. Gawn to Xerri, Owens to Cripps (pocket 240K)

Like the early upgrade points on offer with the first option but carries the most risk (in ruck). Second option probably the safest.

Thoughts?

Why is bowey now an 80 average footballer

One game - that doesn't count towards his average for you of any decency

Rest - well....

But every 7 home and away games he goes 150+.....great strikerate.

Thats perma captain territory.

Ok trades I've made this week so far:

OUT: Whitfield, M McGovern
IN: A Hall, W Brodie

Am I crazy in thinking I should get rid of Parish as well, and bring in Andy Brayshaw? He's gone up another level this year and Parish seems like he's finding it harder this year.

You should absolutely trade Parish to Brayshaw*

*Then give yourself a massive uppercut

These cash grabbing Gawn flickers running hayes at R2 are all on farrrrrrkin drugs mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
They deserve everything thats cummin to them mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

If you really want to do it, just pick up Xerri this week and leave Gawn alone for awhile. You can flick him anytime after you've had a look at what Ryder does to Hayes, whether that big turnip Preuss can play an entire half of footy, and whether Xerri is a 65-70 average against teams that arnt the U21 magoos.

Yes, it's pretty high risk which is not normally my style:

My trades have been:

Whitfield to Hewett
Gawn to Butters (via Hayes)
Owens to Cripps

(Would have ideally gone Gawn to English to avoid the R2 risk but just short of funds for Owens to Cripps then)

A safer play could be:

Whitfield to Hewett
Owens to Stephens
Durdin to Xerri

Can you do:

Gawn > English
Whitfield > Bowey
Owens > Cripps

Having second thoughts about rookie corrections this week. The only rookie priced players I don't have and might want at this stage are Xerri, JHF and maybe Stephens. I have real concerns about the North pair. Xerri has looked good but has rucked against Reeves and Williams. He's rarely going to have it that easy. JHF played an almost unrepeatable game in round 1, kicking multiple goals and having a heap of score involvements. Last week he was up against a WC team that was well short of league standard. They may both do well but at about $207k each there may be better options. With so many rookies debuting in round 2 it might be better to hold off a week, take the limited price increases from my existing rookies and then trade them to cheaper options on the bubble next week. That would free up this week for other possible corrections.

I hope Whitfield takes the biggest dump on every campaigner trading him out, same as Gawn. Whit the prick will do it too.
Both are pretty likely and for the most part, trading out proven premos after 1 or 2 bad scores is not a good idea.

It really depends though on who you are trading to and what you are doing with the cash. If your team is lacking some of the 'must haves' (such as Lachie Neale for example) and the only way to get the cash to bring him in is via trading a premo, then the strategy must be considered.

Also, whilst Gawn is one of the only set and forget rucks whose scoring WILL improve, his price is definitely over his value due to impact on averages that Jackson's presence has (as seen in the 2nd half of last season as well).

Whitfield is still at a good price (perhaps even under value) but I was always reluctant to pick him as he carries a very significant injury risk. I shuffled preseason to bring him in last minute given his commonality (fear of being left behind) and lack of defensive rookies but a slow start and an injury risk and one of my only underperforming premos when I need cash makes me consider it.

Whitfield is playing against the team that gave up 150 points to a nobody like Jake Bowey playing in a similar role.
There’s a strong chance you get what you hope for

Gawn I’m not so bullish about.

Thoughts on these?

Option 1
Trade Out: Gawn, McGovern & Whitfield
Trade In: Witts, Heeney, Hall

Option 2
Trade Out: Gawn, McGovern
Trade In: English, Heeney

With option 2 I would consider trading Whitfield to Bowey for cash gen but may also stick with him. I wouldnt have the money to upgrade him to Hall.

Benefit of option 2 is that I can eventually move English forward where I expect him to be a keeper as oppossed to Witts who I would have to upgrade at some point.

Hey, don't forget that Xerri rucked against Nash in round one as well

Can you do:

Gawn > English
Whitfield > Bowey
Owens > Cripps

I can - thanks for the suggestion. I'm just not sold on Bowey. An 8 gamer being brought in on the back of 1 big score (against an average side) worries me. Rookies often produce a big score (Hayes, Martin, Rachele, Gulden last year, etc) only to go back to normal after it and 265K for essentially a rookie seems silly to me. He's definately not going to be a keeper and takes a 75 average just to eek out $120K.

My current option of Hewett is at least a mature player playing midfield with multiple good scores and the strong possibility of being a keeper.

I didn't see the Melbourne game though and am not all that familiar of team responsibility machinations with Salem out. If people are confident he will average 85+ (thus making 150K +) then he is wort the pick (and provides the needed English coverage for me).

I'd be keeping Gawn and if you arnt keen on Whitfield
Whitfield > Hewett
Owens > Stephens
Or if you want a third trade for Xerri maybe do
Whitfield >Bowey instead

you don’t get the benefit if you wait till after the price changes.
gotta risk it for the biscuit.

No trades made as of yet with $17,500 in the bank. I’m pretty happy with my original rookies and there cash generation prospects.

Obviously considering Whitfield and Gawn out with likely Hewett and maybe English/Witts coming in. Bank the extra cash or maybe use it to upgrade Ralphsmith to Heeney now. But the more I think about it the more I want to make no trades in the hope that Gawn and Whitfield bounce back to what we expected pre round 1. Decisions, decisions

Like I have said earlier this week, it's not easy for a dud player to fluke a 150+ score.

By the looks of it, he has taken Salem's SC friendly role while he is out and he did a pretty good job of it.
