Totally didn’t expect us to win given our yo yo form, the fact that we kicked 10 unanswered goals from beginning of 2nd quarter against the ladder leaders is quite a feat in itself!

Mogntana has already declared that we have given the competition the ‘blueprint’ to beat the pies although I did find Fagan’s commentary slightly frustrating saying dogs were hard to beat at Marvel, let’s face it we were poor, dogs actually weren’t even that good.
Fagan was going on about how he couldn't believe how negative the media was during the week. It's just so short term and reactive. This week will be "have they worked out Collingwood?"

Before the season many people picked Dogs to go top 4, I didn't think Dogs were brilliant but they were very good at shutting us down.

He’s in some kind of form slump, rather it be now than in September.

Last night 59% DE
Last week 50%
R2 57%
R1 69%
Still had 4 clearances and more handballs than kicks so he's getting in and under a bit, decent number of tackles too but we are not seeing the silky smooth stuff we usually see.

The Dogs weren't great but don't diminish our efforts to make them not great. Defensively last week we had a solid game, it was offensively that we proved offensive (similarly some credit to the Dogs for that too).

Does anyone know why McStay didn't play....is he injured? ;)
I was actually impressed that there was very little booing of McStay last night, no problem with Dan and the way he left, anyone is going to take that money and length of contract when offered.... he was ordinary last night though.

Honestly don’t think he touched it enough to find out the level of booing!

No coincidence that the same people who are overreacted to the loss last week, over reacted to the win this week. And I'm not talking about big footy I'm talking about the footy media and a couple of the Lions fan accounts on insta etc.

One amusing moment I saw in the game was in the first Quarter with about 5 minutes thirty to go. We won the tap from the centre and the ball fell the Pies way (of course) but DeGoey and Maynard fumbled the ball repeatedly towards our goal. I thought we might get a rushed point until Bailey laid a good tackle.

Cannot understand the somewhat distasteful comments about Daicos. He is nineteen I think and took his eye off the ball. He had his hands on it for most of the night.

I am writing the preview for the North game and I have no idea what I will say.

We are so up and down.

Not sure there is much left to say that hasn't been said, great game all round. I thought it was probably closer to a 10ish point difference between the teams, pies inaccuracy helped us a bit, but then again Miochek went on a freakish run in the third to keep them in it where he couldn't miss.

Highlights for me were probably:
Wilmot, he seems to just give so many efforts in a team that sometimes expects it to come easy, was refreshing to see.
Bailey, getting back to some kind of form, but needs to learn when to fend. Like the aggression.
Rayner, he was on from the first bounce and his movement through traffic has been exceptional for the past 18 months.
Payne, that one handed pickup in the first 10mins absolutely under the pump shows him growing in confidence.
McKenna, broke up a lot of handball chains and ran his guts out in both directions.
Hipwood + Danniher, both did an excellent job at bringing the ball to ground, especially around that half forward line.

Lower lights:
Coleman, seems pretty out of form, not sure he's suited to that deeper setup kicked that Rich does but fingers crossed it's just confidence.
Gunston, could not get near it. He will pop up in games at times but I do question weather a Cockatoo might be more useful for defensive pressure.

And lastly, for me McInerney. He does some good things around the ground with his marking, but he must be bottom 4 as a tap ruckman in the AFL. Maybe it was a connection issue with the mids but there were multiple times he would win an absolute clear tap to where noone was running. It was bizarre. Also needs to give up on this, tap is straight down at my feet so Neale can run through and get it. It's a terrible play and we have a more dominant midfield then that now. It's frustrating when you no1 ruckman can't even give your mids silver service against a 193cm forward. Very disappointed to lose center clearances and was one of the main reasons we didn't truly slaughter the pies.

Overall, good to see the effort across the ground was back. Great win.

The first 20 minutes of last night was the most frenetic footy i've seen live in a long time. One swallow doesn't make a summer for a number of our boys. Daniher, Hipwood and Rayner set benchmarks for effort this week, but they are benchmarks. The criticism on our team has been justified and our lack of intensity destroyed us against Port and the Dogs. We were significantly more team orientated last night and this led to increased accuracy around goal.

We also set a benchmark for defensive running last night. It was the best i've seen from our boys. We didn't give up and it forced the pies to make more mistakes than usual. Credit to Linc McCarthy for a number of significant defensive acts. Watch the replay, it is more evident than at the ground if you sit on the vulture street side of the ground:D

I thought Payne was pretty good on the night live, even more impressed with him after watching it on replay this morning, his career is building nicely, will be a gun for a decade for us.

3 of our next 4 games are away which are all eminently winnable ie. North, Giants and Blues. + a home game v the Dockers, we should really be 6-2 after this run of matches.

Could Gunston be moved back. If Rgayner is forward, you have a pretty tall forward line.

Watching the replay now and it's just after the Lions kicked their 10th goal on the trot, gee the commentators(except Hodge) are really barracking for a Pies comeback.... sickening.
‘A minute left and Brisbane are
hanging on for grim life by 40 points. We’ve never seen anything like it…’
What a dork.
Best bits: Jack Payne’s one handed pick-up and sure disposal under pressure in the first.
Nick Daicos’ shirk when faced with the oncoming bulldozer, skinny Darcy Wilmot.
Wilmot’s ability to keep his feet and have a second, third crack.
