I don't think this will be anywhere near as ugly as last year, I'm confident the players have it in them to provide more pressure across the four quarters than they've previously done, I'm hoping the new fitness and conditioning staff have turned the corner with them, I'm predicting we've caught up by another increment in regards to fitness levels, lets see how it goes.

I thought we'd be competitive against the Dogs. I don't see how we're going to suddenly figure out how to score and also beat Sydney's (much better than Bulldogs) midfield. This will likely be a 100 point loss.

Are we really a 13 goal better side than last year or have Sydney gone backwards?

Bit of both?

rotham for JJ is one of the changes thats neither a positive or negative really. At least we won’t see JJ turn it over but get ready for rotham to stiffle ball movement and get his pants pulled down by his man.

I know we suck and etc but it’s so frustrating to see our mid age to senior players not dominate at state level. They go back and play decently but for blokes that have so much AFL experience they should be killing it. Meanwhile you see other clubs drop seniors and they go kill the VfL

I think they are shuffling deck chairs to find the best combination of a bad bunch. There's no other defender we can call on as Burgiel is out for a month and we've already tried Witherden.

Rotham is average but at least he has some speed and hopefully he has been given the licence to take the game on a bit more. Last year he often had to take a big forward or help ruck so its no wonder he sucked.

Don't mind Rotham coming in especially when he doesn't have to play on a tall
One thing with him is he can run out a game is a good endurance athlete

Just on JJ he was suspect going into last weeks game and still played ?

Jones covered the 5th most distance and 3rd most at speed

Not what you’d expect if he was hampered by a groin complaint

It’s not like he never had the license to take the game on. He’s just always been in a shell when he finds himself with ball in hand.

Loch Rawlinson will be the sub on Saturday per Adam Simpson on 6PR tonight

Not a fan of debutants being the sub tbh but given his age and the fact he’s still pretty raw it does make some sense in this case

Seems as though the distaste for debutants being the sub has crept into focus since the medical sub came in as they weren't always used. But that isn't the case now as they are always used being a tactical sub.

Back when they brought in the sub originally, people debuted as sub all the time (Gaff for example) and I don't think people seemed to care as much as they do now.

Yeah, completely forgot that medisub rule existed

At least we know he’ll get a run at some stage, if only for a quarter

Rotham definitely stays down back or does he do a bit of everything?

Pinch hit in the ruck go forward ect.
Someone earlier, maybe in this thread or another, floated the option of him playing a negating forward role on Nick Blakey.

Not the worst idea as he certainly has the athletic attributes and size to go with someone like the Lizard.

I hope Rawlinson gets a good run. I don’t expect lots of goals just hope he brings pressure/energy to the fall of the ball.
At least Simmo is not shirking giving the newbies a run.
New blood is not contaminated by what had gone before!

This more than anything is the reddest of red flags on our list which had been waving loud and clear for the last 5 years.

You can give 18 and 19 yos a pass, but Rotham is 26(!), Trew is 21, Foley was 23 when he was delisted, Xavier O'Neill was 23. None of those guys were dominating at WAFL level, they had some good games and some poor games, but that was it.

If you're in your 20s and not regularly putting in performances that suggest you are clearly better than the vast majority of other WAFL players the obvious question is why on earth should you be on an AFL list ahead of the vast majority of other WAFL/SANFL/VFL players? There's an opportunity cost persisting with those spuds in the hope they'll eventually repay the time invested in them. One of those opportunity costs got 44 touches for Essendon on the weekend.
