Breakdown of ages for this week’s team :

29: (6) - McGovern, Cripps, Darling, Yeo, Kelly, Hunt*
25-28: (5) - Barrass, Duggan, Cole, Rotham, Waterman
21-24: (5) - Petruccelle, B Williams, Jamieson, Edwards, Hough
<20: (7) - Chesser, J Williams, Long, Maric, Ginbey, Reid, Rawlinson

*Hunt had a birthday during the week pushing him from 29 to 29

Someone earlier, maybe in this thread or another, floated the option of him playing a negating forward role on Nick Blakey.

Not the worst idea as he certainly has the athletic attributes and size to go with someone like the Lizard.

Just not the ability, smarts, football skills or defensive attributes that suggest he could go with the lizard or limit him in any way.

This more than anything is the reddest of red flags on our list which had been waving loud and clear for the last 5 years.

Yeah you give 18 and 19 yos a pass, but Rotham is 26(!), Trew is 21, Foley was 23 when he was delisted, Xavier O'Neill was 23. None of those guys were dominating at WAFL level, they had some good games and some poor games, but that was it.

If you're in your 20s and not regularly putting in performances that suggest you are clearly better than the vast majority of other WAFL players the obvious question is why on earth should you be on an AFL list ahead of the vast majority of other WAFL/SANFL/VFL players? It's not just about the chance those guys will eventually come good, it's the opportunity cost persisting with those spuds in they hope they'll eventually develop represents. One of those opportunity costs got 44 touches for Essendon on the weekend.
Judd McVee looks like another West Aussie rookie listed player Melbourne took the punt on who will because a 200+ AFL player😳

Rotham back in to prove the haters wrong.

His career to date has been wrecked by instructions to deploy him as a key defender, but now the shackles finally come off.

He'll be promoted to defensive wing. It will be like Brander never left.
Who hates Rotham? He is quite a reasonable WAFL player. He has never looked like a 'quality' AFL player but the club has shown him loyalty and support. Saturday is his opportunity, but I suspect it will be like the opportunity Brander got on the SCG - found out badly. It's a contest!

So apparently simmo confirmed loch will be sub. Thats a bummer. That would have been perfect for Rotham

I guess we'll land somewhere between losing and getting flogged?
Curious to see how much they've repaired the issues from last week,
and what new issues blow out this week? And then how Simmo spins it post match.
Hoping to see improvement on last week and some players taking it on...

At least there's small comfort that this ends our run of top 8 teams,
with bottom 8's ahead apart from Freo and Dees over next few weeks.
Another strange and disconcerting comfort is that 4 other teams are on zero games won at bottom of ladder. (lions, crows, roos hawks)
But on percentage we're losing much better than them.

Rotham yet another enigma from the WC bermuda triangle.
Is it possible we see a bit of flash from both he and Rawlinson?

It will be a good test to see if we have gone to work during the week on stopping oppo ball movement.

Sydney are best in the comp at moving the ball. We’ve been cut up 3 weeks in a row.

Could be a 100+ loss while breaking even in I50’s and winning clearances.

Gulden is going to have an absolute day out being opposed to Chesser/LEdwards.

Will feast on us on the wing.

40D 3G 3 votes incoming.

I've always been a fan of Josh Rotham... I think people have just been impatient with his development. The guy was pick 36, you need to give late-pick talls a bit of time. Just look at some of the other players that were drafted around they same position... Like... [checks notes] Tom Stewart.

Morther ****er.

Fairly surprised we are going into a Sydney game so tall.

Down back we have Gov, Barrass and Jamieson to cover the tall Sydney KPF. In addition, we have Hough and Rotham who are both over 190 cm

Up front we have Jack Williams and 3 x 3rd Tall forwards in Snake, JD and Maric.

I can only assume Rotham is being brought into the side to be the ruthless shut down defender.

I sense we are going to be run off our feet. This might be the round we get our pants pulled down in the contested possession count. There again, Simpson might have just told the team we are going to play man on man at gather round!!!

Harry Edwards isn't playing, Luke Edwards is.
