For what its worth re: Joyce & Gardiner. Fages in his presser said its probably too soon to bring him straight back in.

Personally, after the shock of potentially not having Adams + Gardiner looming on us at the start of the year, I am ecstatic with our tall defenders.
The highlight for the year so far for me too.

No Adams, Gardiner , Kiddy nowhere near what people were predicting due mostly to injury ,Rich apparently cooked , so how come our defence has held up so strongly in every game bar PA where they were given no hope ?

116 points from turnover - The Kangaroos defensive structure held up well.

The French defensive structure held up better V the German WWII invasion. Cheese eating surrender monkeys

I could not get the audio to work on M Malice video
This one appears to work,

Genuinely the most negative and toxic group of supporters on the site, so always glad to belt them
shame that the north blow ins who were posting in the preview thread arent around to celebrate our great victory

I got abused on their board for politely correcting a false (and libellous) allegation that Joe Daniher was one of the Essendon 34.

They think they do good banter but are utterly humourless prigs.

I had a quick look on their board and they were referring to their players as frauds and criminals. So don’t feel too bad TBD!

For some reason I thought there were questions on him being there then? As in he was training with them before being drafted?

This has mainly been because we have become a much better team defensively in the midfield. Dunkley coming in has been amazing and I feel like other than round one we have managed to improve greatly compared to last year. The backs are having a much better time as the ball is coming in from pressured kicks rather than uncontested.

Though worth noting that our tall defenders in Andrews, Payne and Joyce have been really organised. Payne and Joyce usually take individual matchups allowing Harris to intercept which is the role he truly excels at. This hasn’t exactly been possibly in the last couple years with Adams and Gardiner being closer to 190cm which means Harris has needed to matchup against 200cm plus forwards. The extra height helps Harris a lot.

Lastly, Rich and Coleman may be down in form but their form is usually judged on their ability as rebounders not as lockdown defenders. Starcevich has been playing good as the go to lockdown defender for smalls this year.

Or it could be Murray Davis going to coach the forward line. ;P

Linc’s chase and rundown tackle on the last quarter is one of dozens of examples of the pressure he brings week after week that supporters miss in the quest for more goals.

Started on the boundary and worked across 3 players to get the free kick.

Any thoughts to drop him (by blinkered bigfooty fans) should be shelved completely

This game was probably the best example of how Linc has been playing all year - not getting the scoreboard reward, but his pressure has been unreal

Payne and Joyce can’t play in the same side with the deficiencies both have in their kicking game. It’s too limiting.

At least when Joyce goes back to the VFL he will know exactly what he needs to work on so that hopefully we see an improved v2 when he returns to the 1s.
Joyce isn’t even that bad. Short memories. His first kick in lions colours was a bullet pass through the corridor that rivalled peak rich.

What Joyce does is move the ball on much much quicker than any of our talls and is willing to take the game on with some corridor passing. Gardiner literally does two things. A cheap sideways kick or a slow long kick up the ground. Gardiner is a known quantity though.

The role has been there but he wasnt switched on earlier in the year. Against the dogs he was running in sand a not really working hard enough. Been a massive lift last two weeks though.

If they’ve resorted to those kind of shots I don’t think they’re in much of a mood to be corrected either.

I am convinced that this kick was an accident.

The backup ruck role is clearly the key to Joe Daniher. Keep him involved, keep him hot, keep the blood pumping.

Has too much time to think as a pure forward. Thinking is not his friend.

Fort’s ability to present as a genuine second/third tall opens up a wealth of possibilities.

It's the same role that saw him earn All-Australian in 2017. Would've kicked on in 2018 I suspect, but I think it's when his OP issues started.

No coincidence his form dropped off last year when he couldn't play in the ruck with his bung shoulder (not to mention the actual injury itself too).

How did Lyons go when he got subbed on - obviously the world didn't end but was he back to his best or ... ?

Re Joyce I noticed other players choosing to give him the ball to take kicks so he is not perceived internally as a ruck-like kick (or alternatively the other side knew he sucked so made a point of leaving him free so he could take the kicks....)

Lyons was very good

It’s heart in throat every time Joyce got the ball as while he is okay general defender very poo disposal. Not sure why Harris was handing off to him as Harris is better kick
