Round 5 Ins-and Outs

In - Gehrig,Voss,Armitage? (was best afield for casey i hear)

Out - S.Fisher,Gwilt,McQualter,

At this stage they would be the changes I'd make although I think we'll need another tall defender to cope with the twin threat of Tredrea and White.

Both Ferguson and Gilbert would be giving up a lot of height and weight but I really don't see any other options.

From all reports Clinton Jones didn't have a big game for the Scorpions yesterday but the club may choose to bring him in to give us a bit more pace. That's another area that Port will be looking to expose us in given their abundance of running midfielders.

We can't really go on pretending that we can cover opposing tall forwards with mid-size players.

If the other team plays tall in their forward line, you put tall blokes on them. The other team dictates who plays in your backline.

If Grant Thomas had shown the ineptitude to adapt his gameplan on Saturday that Ross Lyon did, many would have been calling for his immediate sacking. While cutting Lyon some slack, it was an elementary mistake not to send Koschitzke to CHB that fortunately didn't cost us - we lost for other reasons.

Currently we have Hudghton, Maguire, S Fisher, Brooks, Watts & Allen all over 190cm and injured. Gilbert simply must play on Friday night. Blake will play back as well and we still have Koschitzke to send back as well. Brett Voss would be another option, and probably should have played instead of Gwilt.

In: Gehrig, Gilbert, Voss
Out: S Fisher, Gwilt, McQualter

B: L Fisher Blake Gram
HB: Goddard Gilbert Attard
C: Harvey Hayes Baker
HF: Fiora Riewoldt Montagna
F: Milne Gehrig Koschitzke
Foll: M Clarke Ball Dal Santo
Int: Rix Voss Thompson X Clarke
Em: Armitage McQualter Jones

Blake actually did a fair job on Louganis (Lloyd) on Saturday. He's been terrific so far this year, and well deserves a spot in the team. And Punter, Kosi should NOT move to CHB; he's not quick enough in today's game, from what I saw on Saturday. It was several years ago he last played CHB, and the game is much quicker now than it was then.

The game was won and lost in the midfield on Saturday; ours was collectively poor, theirs was collectively pretty good. Our backline held up pretty well, considering.

OUT
Fisher - Injury
Gwilt - Omitted
McQualter - Omitted

IN
Voss - Play key back
Gehrig - Straight into full forward
Jones/Armitage - Replace the slow Mcqualter

Gotta dump X.Clarke. His game on Saturday was one of the most embarrasing performances i've seen in a long time. The bloke is a dud and so is his brother. What a waste of 2 x Top 10 draft picks !

I disagree - he was brilliant against Melbourne and both are - on their day - two of the most exciting players in the AFL !

Okay, he didn't play too well on Saturday - but neither did anyone else (with the exception of Gram, Harvey and - to a lesser extent - Milne and Riewoldt).

In: Gehrig, Gilbert, Armitage
Out: S Fisher:( , Gwilt, McQualter

I am so eager to see Gilbert play again - he will be a ripper for us.
Needs match experience.

Armitage too is going to be a star for us - the Mackay boy should be given a go this week after putting his hand up in the Casey match. Good luck to him if he gets the chance.

A poster on Saintsational who has inside info says that the changes will be

OUT: S.Fisher (inj), McQualter, Gwilt
IN: Gilbert, Voss, Gehrig

So I think we'd line up like this

B: L.Fisher, Blake, Attard
HB: Gram, Koschitzke, Goddard
C: Dal Santo, Hayes, Montagna
HF: X.Clarke, Riewoldt, Harvey
F: Voss, Gehrig, Milne

Foll: M.Clarke, Ball, Baker
Int: Fiora, Thompson, Rix, Gilbert

Blake v White
Koschitzke v Tredrea
L.Fisher v Ebert
Gram v Mahoney
Attard v P.Burgoyne
(Gilbert to take Thurstans or resting ruckman)

Baker v S.Burgoyne
Montagna v Pearce

EDIT: The poster has now said that Mini is in and Gilbert isn't. So just swap Mini onto the bench for Gilbo.

EDIT: Well so bloody much for the amazing poster with inside sources!

Will st.kilda's midfield perform better than port's in the wet??

I heard port smashed collingwood at the clearances last week in the wet??

I think if you remember back to the game against sydney last year it was pouring down with rain, that i think was one of the best wins i have ever seen by us so i think we are also a good team in the wet.

That was the most highly motivated I've ever seen the boys - in that match against the Swans. That was the day of the GT hug - where as he wandered towards the changing rooms he tapped his heart indicating his recognition of their effort.

I also remember the very next match - a woeful performance against Adelaide at home. That is a possible consequence of being so highly motivated for a match and winning - that the subsequent match is often lost. It would seem that it is difficult to keep up that level of desire and effort.

----------------------------------------

Hard to find any fault with the changes.

I'm glad Voss is back in the team and I'm interested to see how Gilbert goes. He's one player who you always hear mixed reports about. He'll have his work cut out against the Port Adelaide talls so it will be a good test for the kid. We knew Fraser was returning and Brooks for Rix is a like for like swap. Brooks probably gives us the added dimension of playing him forward which may be needed if someone like Kosi is forced to go into defence.

Why are we dropping Rix? thought he's been alright. Always tries hard.

Good to see Vossy back!

I think were half a chance this week.
