I've been over on the Carlton board. Have to say they are one of the better oppositions.

They think the loss of rich and zorko is a big boost for them, as is our poor away record.

Most predict/hoping for a win but think it will be close.
If this game is at the MCG (not sure if it's Marvel or MCG), then we probably won't miss those two.
Before last year they'd only won a couple of games in a decade at that ground. Might be good not having them there

Hollands has been a heck of a player this year so far. Every time I've seen him I've been super impressed. Quick, works hard, decent skills and bloody tough for an 18 year old.
I'm not sure I've ever seen Sharp look anything close to resembling how good Hollands has been and he's had an extra two seasons in the system. IF Harry can't quickly bring some sort of form at either AFL/VFL level, I wouldnt be surprised to see him delisted.

Still actually cant quite believe he's been given the nod over Dev, Jaxon, Cal, Rhys, JL and even over the Jimmy's (M and T).

I think it's fair for there to be pressure on us to win and expectations, we have made finals 3-4 years in a row and this group needs to start playing as the dominant group they are.

It's probably a bit of revisionist history but last time we played Carlton we had a 10 goal lead through the 3rd Q. It was a domination. I'm not expecting us to go as well considering Marvel, looking back through our history there since 2020 and it's:

April 2021 v Pies (W) - 71-72
April 2021 v Carl (W) - 85-103
Mar 2022 v Ess (W) - 75-97
Aug 2022 v Saint (W) - 66-81
Mar 2023 v Dogs (L) - 67-53

Those are pretty consistently low scoring games, and I think our fast paced kicking style doesn't work as well there because the ground is smaller and easier to cover.
Yep looking at that record plenty of wins, but FAR from convincing. And in the Pies game they are better at the G so it helps us.

I think what hurt the MCG record was a couple of big losses.

Last year at the MCG:

Beaten by Melbourne by 10 goals - bad game, dees were red hot at that time though
Beaten by Richmond by 7 points - okay it's bad to give up that lead, but we GOT a huge lead again against a team going very well at the timee
Beat dees by 13 - great win in a tough final

So we went 1-2 at the G but 3 very tough games, and nearly won the second won

The 5 games you outlined - all 5 teams were not going well, not big or convincing wins.

Hoping for Lyons to be the sub tonight, so if we're getting smashed in the mid at least we can rotate a solid option into there (maybe subbing out Sharp and moving Berry or Clug to the wing)

Melbourne games always give off a different vibe than when at the Gabba......a nervousness and dread.

...and it shouldn't be like that if we want to win flags.

Understatement of the year but it's all well and good having big wins at home, we need to win these away games if we want to have that taste of 01-02-03 again..

Need a big change of mindset from our boys and tonight is a good start.

Do your thing boys and just play like you do at home.

Have a feeling Dunkley will have his best game for the club so far and be best on ground for us tonight. Carlton are a big team with good inside mids and think he’s the kind of guy to take that challenge on.

I also think it’s more likely we put him to Cripps if he starts getting off the chain rather than Berry.

Go Lions!!!!
The lions have been good in the 3rd quarter recently, and I expect them to open up a 4 goal lead after half time, and maintain it to the end.
Rayner should kick a couple, I think he likes Friday night games.

In Fagan we trust.

Just remember - Sharp broke the all time 2km time trial at the NAB AFL Draft Combine record in Melbourne by 20 seconds at just 17-years-of-age and with another year of school left. We got him as a bottom ager and he was always going to take a little longer to build the body up.

**** has shown this year, he is willing to make changes, forced and un-forced and rotate the squad through spreading and developing, the depth. I think this year his strategy is around, "a team doesn't win finals, a squad does". He has learned that lesson so he is - on it.

Rich and Zorko out for 3 weeks I'd expect we will see other changes coming and somewhere along the way some of the bigger young guys to get a run also.

We go this, looks like ***'s probably has broken the emergency glass and will give Berry a run on Cripps at some stage just like he does, Berry on Oliver.

For those going to the game, slip down to the dressing sheds beforehand, instead of slapping hands in high 5's, do a little face slapping and make sure the boys are awake, angry and ready to fire on the first siren and we have the 'action' team out on the field not he "she'll be right mate" team.

Thanks in advance

Let's hope. The thought of Rip sitting at a Broncos game is reasonably amusing though.

If everyone gets their own personal hell, mine’ll be getting trapped at Lang Park while the Broncos score try after try.
A bit of alcohol, a touch of Stockholm Syndrome, a bonding with mates and you never know our Rip might turn into a passionate dual surporter of both codes and be torn which game to attend when both at home scheduled head to head! ;)

Shows the improvement of Dunkley over Lyons but also the sack Bruce comments on here have died away pretty quickly after the season started poorly
Would it also be fair to say Clugga and Bailey haven't spent as much time on the ball as they did over the practice matches and first couple of games?

Yeah Ashcroft taking their time

Bailey wasn't really developing as a midfielder too well
Yeah it was one of the reasons I thought we got beat up at times in our preseason and early season. I just don't think those two are best suited to centre clearance work. Neither can tackle or break through tackles in tight unfortunately. Better suited to the wing and half forward.

Won't see tonight's game as I'll be stuck at the leeg. My only contact will be sneak peeks at this thread; so make it a good'un, guys.

Tipping a controversial draw.
