Autopsy Round 8, 2023 : Positives and Negatives vs Richmond

Simmo looked really down at the presser. Saying it's cos of culley but it's maybe more to it as well. Culleys career at wce could be over given that he doesn't have a contract come June.

Don't know how the club hierarchy just keep accepting their * ups over the sports and conditioning drafting and everything in general. We have fallen In such a bad way since 2018. Its ****ed.
He's contracted until the end of the year

Positives:
-Sheed had a very good game.
-O Allen finished well and ended up with 4. But more than that, he just looks dangerous every time he's near the ball. Showing signs he could become a true dominant key forward.
-Liked JJ's game off half back also. -Ginbey looks quality with the ball in hand. Think he's coming along nicely.

Negatives:
-Trew/West/Clark are clearly a level below AFL.
-I still think XON could make a contribution as a role player, but unlikely as a prime mover. His contract fate probably depends on how deep the draft goes and how many seniors retire end of year.

Horror Show:
Culley injury is just plain bleak. Just when you think things can't get worse.

Really pissed off today, lost Culley, lost our heads in the 3rd term & sick of Jack Darling's insipid efforts, if the bloke is in the team next week even without our lack of depth i'll be outraged.

I don't think it will be long before we are asking the AFL for some assitance in terms of our list numbers & not just for a game or two like last year, we are in complete & utter dire straits. The bye can't come quick enough and neither can that supposed review into our club's operations.

Suma had the answer to darling.

Desperately need the likes of Hewett, Chesser, Long and Hough to come in and be more than competitive. Hewett especially as a midfield offensive playmaker/ weapon. Which is completely unrealistic of all them this year.

No pressure.

Flat, too many injuries. Not fun for any of the players out there.

Not even a Cockburn loss would lift the spirits much.
I would be happier losing if we were getting games into Hewett,Chesser,Long,Bazzo,Burgiel rather then playing list cloggers.Having injuries to our young recruits is killing us.Losing Culley is even sadder as it will put his development back even further.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with today's positives and negatives
I like Darling, but that right there is living in the past my guy. How line p you mean to do it? Sheed kicked that goal, does that mean he also gets a free swing for the rest of his career?

Darling has had an amazing career, but supporters have waited all year for the Penny to drop with him and he hits a good bit of form, but it's simply not happening.

Add in his apparent back injury and he's borderline undefendable with what he's producing on field at the moment.

Moot point. He ain't getting dropped, he ain't retiring, so just let people complain.
Was more so commenting on the “he’ll get Bronx cheered when he retires” calls.

All for his current form to be called out but not onboard pretending like he’s had anything but a stellar career.
Expected when you've had the second best defender on you your whole career.
Yeah that’s why all those other second KPF’s are up there I guess.

TBH only positive for mine were Oscar and Jones constantly providing the option.

There's a few players being mentioned as much better/good today which was the case when they had the games on their own sheepdog terms. When the requirement to do the hard things was there they again were found wanting and at this stage that's just the players they are and we'll be better when they're off the list.

Alot of turnover required for this list. some 3+ year players as well that should be running out games better than they are if they wanted to show they were deadset about playing AFL long term.

Come on - the bloke has no right to be able to play but has willed himself onto the ground. Fractured his bloody ankle in January yet was able to play rnd 2 with no preseason. Whatever happened with his back his killed his mobility. Yet he still fronts up to get smashed in marking contest after marking contest so that Allen can get off the chain and kick multiple goals a game.

Yes, he probably can't lead our forward line anymore, but he is a valuable player doing his role. We have much bigger problems than him.

You.definetly have no sense of humor what so ever. This is a footy forum, not everything thats said is literal.

He wont be remembered as a great player. A good one yes.

All comments based on ABC Radio broadcast. Sounds like;
1. Skills let us down. Missed handballs when we had them open.
2. Duggan got a bit of it but delivery to options not accurate enough for this level.
3. Hurn still banging it to the right from kick ins.
4. Delivery into forward line imprecise.
5. Darling had a mare - not moving to ball, not mobile and very stationery and showing some disappointment in delivery to him.
6. Lower tier didn’t get a lot of mentions today - chances to win a more permanent place are there. Players need to take the opportunity offered.

There is no chance that Culley doesn't get a contract.

Its grim that aside from Ginbey and Allen, most of our more promising younger players are now injured, or coming back from injury.

We need to see more of Hough, Bazzo, Chesser, Hewitt and Long, maybe Burgiel too.

Duggan's leadership and endeavour have been a shining light in an abysmal season. Disposal still not great, needs to know his limitations - kick shorter or hand-off to Jones or Hunt - but he puts his all into every contest he's a part of.

Ginbey’s hands and decision-making in close are excellent.

It's true, he's got quick hands and chooses pretty good options.

As he matures, I want to see him run more with the ball, use aggressive handballs, kick more, and use his speed to break away from congestion.

If he can take those next steps and start to create the play, he could become elite - Oliver like.

Hard to find positives on a day where Jai Culley probably did an ACL and where we turned a lead halfway through the third quarter into a 46 point loss, but here goes:

Positives:

Oscar Allen four goals.
Jones and Hunt providing run.
Duggan a good game.
Witherden showed a bit.
Rotham was good for the most part.
Another game under the belt for Ginbey.
Kelly and Sheed got quite a bit of the ball (even if disposal sometimes a let down).
Gaff showed courage (but unfortunately struggles to kick 35 m).
Barrass a good game.
We sat near Nathan Vardy and Scott Selwood.

Negatives:

Culley. FFS what have we done to deserve such an injury run? Poor kid has not even been at the club for a year yet.
Hit the front in the third quarter and then vanished like we were teleported on Star Trek.
So many dropped marks.
Missing targets with handballs.
Inability to turn our forward entries into more goals early on.
Our tackles so easily broken.
Can't drop 5 or 6 players due to lack of replacements.
Allen and Barrass finishing the game looking sore.
Darling's form and/or injury.
Umpiring inconsistencies: not sure why, but they seem to want us to get Harley Reid.

He seems to have very little peripheral awareness. No doubting endeavour though.

Yeah, Duggan collected plenty of the ball from the middle which was good unfortunately, he still cant kick to save himself.

Look I know it's the reality of where we're at right now...

But I am sick to death of watching the WAFL brigade go about it. It's giving me IBS 🗑

The crew of Foley, Xon, Rotham, West, Clark and Trew are just so so so bad and out of their depth in this league. Cannot wait until they are all gone.

Petch and Ledwards on notice.

3 on 2's that we should easily win, but cough up the ball. Players having no foot skills. Players not being able to kick on their opposite foot. Not being able to ride a tackle. Not being able to asorb pressure. Not sheparding. Players missing uncontested targets 15m away. Players dropping marks when they are in space.

At one point it was just a wave of them in the last quarter. 15m chip kick in transition to a free teammate ends up being a lollipop that hangs in the air.

Grim days being a West Coast fan with yet another injury to our rising star from 2 weeks ago. I mean gee whiz.

Then you've got Dinosaur Hurn. Nowhere near our worst, but still stuck so far in Simmos old game plan. Kicks backwards. Kicks sideways. Doesn't mix up the kick ins ever. Doesn't get creative. Stale and vanilla kicking it long to an undersized Darling in a 1v1 against Balta, who he's lost to the last 5 times you kicked there.
Any chance you can stop with the sugar coating and give us a really honest appraisal that doesn’t give us hope?

Halved last weeks loss...if we keep halving our losses, we'll have a win about 5 games later never win again.

EFA

That spate of 5-6 kick-ins by Hurn to the exact same spot for the exact same result was just plain pathetic. Try kicking short, or to the opposite side of the ground where less numbers are.

Haha loved that each time he pretended to look around when really every one knew he was gonna kick it to that exact spot
