Autopsy Round 8, 2023 : Positives and Negatives vs Richmond

That spate of 5-6 kick-ins by Hurn to the exact same spot for the exact same result was just plain pathetic. Try kicking short, or to the opposite side of the ground where less numbers are.
Even the commentators called it out, finally.

The Sheediest of Sheed games. Possibly our BOG.

Not.a.defensive.bone.in.his.body.

Shocking example to our youth.

Good times.
Did lol when Simmo said they're keen to give him a run as captain along with Allen and Duggan at some point before Shuey's return.

There is not a single thing about Sheed that screams captain to me.

You.definetly have no sense of humor what so ever. This is a footy forum, not everything thats said is literal.

He wont be remembered as a great player. A good one yes.
I’d say our second highest goal kicker ever will be remembered pretty fondly.

A good player is doing him a complete disservice.

Halved last weeks loss...if we keep halving our losses, we'll have a win about 5 games later.
Another game over and closer to the bye...and mid season draft.
We were winning at one stage.
All the players on our injury list and coming back one day, is a strange kind of positive?
You cannot halve a loss and win - computer says no

A step forward from last week and a step back. Having said that, Richmond are awful. So much of the same. Too many passengers when it mattered, especially those 7-8 minutes in the 3rd.

Culley is the clear negative. Just terrible for him after all the work he’s done these last 2 years. Know the club will support him 100%. These things can happen in footy anytime I guess but can we stop paying for that ONE week where we had no changes?

Allen is genuinely a star. Goals are one thing but he just competes and is so very rarely beaten in the air. Think he’s our next captain too.

Williams is getting better week by week. That Williams -> Sheed -> Allen play I hope someone Gifs this week because it’s almost our best play this year so far.

Edwards is getting more game time. Think he will be much better for this consistent game time by years end.

Jones had a great 50th. He’s really such a different player since debuting and a really good story, so happy for him.

Time is running out for Foley, O’Neill, Clark. Some others too, West for example but at least with West you can see he cares.

Positives:
Allen
Jones
Duggan
Barrass
Hunt
Witherden (Several decent games in a row now...he might just be worth holding onto)
Rotham (Actually played a half decent game)
Sheed (Can find the ball)
Williams (Some great efforts)

Negatives:
Culley Injury
XON, West, Edwards, Petrucelle, Clark, Trew & Foley (WAFL players at best)
Darling (Poor start to the year...same as last year...will back him in to improve this time)
Gaff (Too slow, deer in headlights etc etc)
Sheed (Can't do much with the ball)
Williams (Some WTF efforts)

We need to see more of Hough, Bazzo, Chesser, Hewitt and Long, maybe Burgiel too.
Agree completely. Problem is they’ve had interrupted seasons. Ideally most/all need a couple of WAFL games first. But we may have to select them which might just keep the injury merrygoround spinning.

And yet 5 tackles (4th for WCE)

And 17 pressure acts (= 5th for WCE)

giphy (2) (1).gif

Swear I saw him just lumbering after his opponent and letting them handball chain around him without him getting out of snail speed multiple times

29 disposals, 7 marks, 5 tackles, 9 clearances (equal best for WCE) and 2 goal assists (out of a team total of 4) from 76% time on ground in his first game back.... Don't think Sheed is the problem here.

Unlike Kelly who is 1st in the league in Clangers, 1st in the league in turnovers. Or Gaff with his grand total of 9 effective disposals and 1 tackle.

The reality is Kelly and Sheed should both be playing on Wings and getting the ball in more space as opposed to having to do the grunt work on the inside. We have no developed centre square midfielders and no effective ruckman. No effective half forwards to kick to or ground ball presence inside the forward 50. Oh and Hurn's defensive creativity is like a steam train slowly running on straight tracks.

In regards to further negatives we have lost Culley to a major knee injury, Allen injured his knee as well, Darling shouldn't be playing due to injury, Exxon played with a cracked rib.

To say the situation is dire is an understatement. The only positives I can see are is the players are putting in and our tackling has improved. The only reason we aren't stone cold motherless last is because there is a team which is being setup to actively lose matches.

Couple of short memories in here, darling is 6th in the most goals kicked of active afl players.

Likely to be 2nd or 3rd by the time he finishes up (dependent on when Hawkins retires and when Lynch passes him), has had a very very good career.
Darling has been an excellent player for us for a long time, that doesn't make him undroppable. Ever since his whole anti-jab saga he has been a shadow of the player he once was.

Only reason he's still being picked is because of our dire injury situation.

F**k me 28 thousand with a membership close to 100k..

seriously f**k you Richmond what a pathetic club
Was saying this to my mate earlier today.

200k members between both clubs and 28k show up on a lovely Saturday afternoon. Pretty sad.

Zane Trew being the only option to replace him means he plays injured.
